Do not feel it was your lack of experience that led you to trust this woman. I, too, with 20 years of experience, also accepted a position with her (TMI). I even bought a new computer just for the sole purpose of working for her, as it was a WONDERFUL account that I wanted to be a part of. In the end, she pulled a 'disappearing' act on me the weekend I was to download the program and start work and when I failed to hear from her by Monday morning, I moved on and accepted another position I had been offered and luckily was still available.
There are quite a few companies out there like this one. In all honesty, I do not feel it was M's intent to mislead or cheat MTs. I think she simply was in far too much over her head with this account and lost control of it. I wouldn't be surprised to learn even M herself didn't get paid. She had my on her MT email list for awhile, and I was astounded at the number of changes in the account specifics there were only a daily basis (sometimes 2-3 times a day).
Yes, please use caution and always check the archives. I am cognizant that there was nothing about TMI on the board when she got this account and was hiring, so we all learned from this one.
Please hang in there and do not give up hope. Did you ever get any pay at all? I heard one MT never received any pay and only 1 or 2 others were partially paid.
I'm sorry your first experience as an MT turned out to be such a bad one.
