Question about Cortez Peters

I got this book as someone recommended below.  I am having trouble with one of the instructions in the introduction.  It states:

When using the right shift key, remove the fingers of the right hand from the guide keys position.  Keep the fingers curved and together, and with the fourth finger depress the right shift key and hold it down until you have struck the letter to be capitalized.  Then return the fingers to the guide keys position.  These instructions apply to the left hand when you are using the shift key.

I have always used my fifth finger for the shift key, and it is hard for me to understand how using my fourth finger would not result in a significant decrease in speed.  Won't it be much slower to shift the whole hand like that?  I would like to here from someone who uses the fourth finger and finds it faster.  Thanks!
