Here's my experience: I'm 4 months out of M-TEC, working for national. I started at 7.5 cents a line, and my production rate currently averages 140 lph. You'll never get rich in this business, but I feel fine with what I'm making as a beginner.
Definately go with one of the big 3 schools - the name will open doors for you. I had a job offer before I even graduated - easiest job I have every gotten, and I'm quite happy with it.
