Turning it around to see how it sounded the OTHER way: I'm a good nurse, so I'll be a good MT versus I'm a good MT so I'll be a great nurse. The two professions require different skill sets, and yes lots of practice, and nurses and MTs are NOT interchangeable -- it's putting down BOTH careers to think otherwise.
