we're mostly paid by the line or by the minute of dictation transcribed. It varies by employer and by region of the country. I believe the U.S. Labor Department website lists median income for various jobs. You could check there.

MT salary
Are there any MT's out here making at least $45,000 a year? If yes, how many years to it take you to start making this much? Also would you recommend getting into this field? And has anyone retired from MT?
MT salary
I don't make anywhere close to $45,000 a year. But I am a newbie. This is my first year in MT. But I have a friend who makes this much and has been an MT for 8 years. She also works directly for a local hospital and works for hourly pay. I work for per line pay. If this is something that interests you and you would love to work from home then yes go for it. I don't know anyone who has retired but I know one of supervisors is about to retire. The way I see it you can get exp. and work your way up to a QA postiion or supervisor position. One day you could have your own MT service. These are my goals but I have a long way to go. When you start out if at all possible starting out with a local clinic or hospital would be the way to go as they pay hourly usually.
