There is a huge difference between CS and the other 2 schools. I am a CS grad and I recommend M-Tec or Andrews to anyone that asks. You definitely get what you pay for in the MT industry.
CS has changed a lot in the last year and, in my opinion, not for the better. Any school that needs to spam Craigslist in order to get more students to be is questionable. I am ashamed to admit I am a CS grad.
As for jobs, good luck. It seems most of the new grads from CS now can't find jobs and those that are taking jobs are taking jobs at very low rates (some even working for free in internship programs just because they can't find a job anywhere else). Also, their job placement is a joke. Waste of money. All they do is give you a list of companies that have hired their grads in the past, even though some of the companies no longer hire CS grads. Good luck. You are going to need it!

Well, I am not attending one of the top three schools but was wondering if I could still ask some of you seasoned professionals for advice/help when the time comes? I am VERY dedicated and wanting to learn more!

I did CAI and was able to find a job shortly after receiving my certificate. I had no actual MT work experience but found someone who would hire and train a newbie. I now work part-time from home, three nights a week, working as an independent contractor. I received excellent training from CAI but of course it is the work that you put into the course that makes the difference. Good luck and don't give up. I see lots of MT jobs in the paper everyday. Try hospitals, doctor's offices, IC work, nationals, etc.
No! There are more than 3 "top" schools.
There are plenty of other good schools out there. Just do you research. A school does not have to be AHDI approved to be a good school either. Just make sure that their curriculum follows closely what AHDI recommends. That way you will be on the right track when you have completed your course.
You do not have to be a graduate from one of the "top three schools" to get a job!! sm
I went to the VLC and had a job BEFORE I graduated. It has been almost three years now and I have never, ever had a problem with my education or landing a great job!! Please, do not listen to all the hype about the so called top three schools. Concentrate on what you did learn at your school. Apply that to what is needed in the MT world. Apply to everything out there whether it is in house or in your home! I applied to every job that stated 2 years experience or under when I was starting out, unless the ad specifically stated No newbies. Once you start testing with the companies you will eventually land something. While you are waiting and testing for employment keep up on your studies. Keep typing and use dictation tapes you have from your school. That way you wont be sitting idle while waiting for a job. It can be done WITHOUT going to the big three schools. The AAMT and the "Top Three" just feed each other - so-called approval by AAMT means nothing
a lot of community college programs are far better than the "top three." Just make sure you get plenty of actual dictation. If you don't have good grammar skills and aren't a literary-type person this may not be the field for you. I can't tell you the unbelievable applications I get for MT jobs - misspelled words, sloppy grammar, and how about those st*pid email addresses THEHOT1@aol.com, etc. Sheesh. If you're one of THOSE, then be prepared to look for a l o n g time to get your first job LOL
