Express scribe
Shoot.   If it's not loading the files into the program, then I'm not sure why it's not working.  Sorry.  I don't know what else would work.
Express scribe

Express scribe does play DSS files - you just have to change the settings, as they are not one of the standard files it is set up to play.   When you're in express scribe, go into settings at the very top, and then go over to the Files tab.  This gives you options of the different types of files that you can get it to play.  Check DSS and then it should work for you.

re: Express Scribe
First you have to know what kind of foot pedal you have, it is either a USB port or a COM I or COM II 9 pin. The USB just plugs in where the 9 pin needs to be screwed into the back of your computer. Then after you get ES downloaded, click on settings, then go to pedal and hot key settings. Then click on the kind of foot pedal you have and then do the foot pedal wizard. It'll have you press the pedals and if it responds you have it set! God bless!~
EXPRESS SCRIBE...HELP!
I am so irritated, my computer and everything on it screwed up today, so I erased and downloaded express scribe, and I can't remember what my settings were on..I know now when I try to rewind it doesn't go back as far enough as I need it to, and I Have no clue on how to make it.  I have the speeds on 1000, all of them.
Express Scribe

Can anyone shed some light on Express Scribe.  I was looking to purchase for me to use along with the 3 part time girls I have working for me.  What is the cost, but more importantly what special equipment do I or the doctors need.  Any replies would be greatly appreciated.  I have a call into the company as well.

THANK YOU!!

Express Scribe is not the only software. nm

express scribe is not a tape transcriber. SM

If you are working with cassette tapes, you need something to play them on.  You cannot just upload them to a computer.  You can input them to your computer via a transcribing machine.

Express Scribe is a digital sound player.  It plays voice files that are already digitized.

Express Scribe is a free download.....

A USB foot pedal would be good to have. You can download Express Scribe for free to take tests. nm

It Won't Play

I have the Start Stop Universal Transcription System and I just recently hooked it up. My Pedal works fine and will play my sample files, and the voice files cd im trying to load will play through my regular audio player. When I try to play the cd through my transcription system it won't play, it's almost like it freezes the system up. The only thing I can come up with is the files my transcription system will play are WAV files and the cd contains MP3 files. I have no idea how to change or convert these files and I have tried to associate MP3 files with my system and it's not working. Anyone have any suggestions? please Email me! I only have 2 weeks left in my course and I need to figure this out!

I'll play!!
Aside from waiting for lessons to be graded and relentless job searching, I have nothing else to do that involves using my brain. Please post the word jumble. I will do my best!
Here's what I have mine set at. Play around and
Under Settings/Playback:  Variable Slow 25%, Fast 100%.  Autobackstep 2000. Constant speed. Rewind 900 and 100%. Forward 300 and 100%. Your mileage may vary! Good luck... nm
you can't put them on the computer unless you have a transcriber to play them on. nm

THanks for the imput. My computer is downstairs also, but I usually have them play upstairs when I
I have been thinking about purchasing a better type of headphone that really block out the sound. I know they are spendy but are they worth it? Any input?
Try Med-Scribe (Utah) or Princeton?

MED-Scribe, Inc. (Utah) -- they don't have a website, but email Teri Mortensen teri@med-scribeinc.com about questions/openings.

Princeton Transcription, Inc has a website you can find by Google and I know they have one psych account.

Good luck.

express
I did this and it did not work.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and did this about 10-15 times
Express Delegate

Does anyone have their own home-based company and use the  Express Delegate system?  If so, could you please supply some information on what it required to set it up and what comes in the package?  Thank You!!

most use wav files
Yes, there are programs that are used to play these files with a foot pedal. I am using DSS by Olympus and it plays both .dss and .wav files. There are companies that let you use their own programs.

I agree with you that the voice files they usually use for testing just SUCKS. I have tried using Realplayer and Media Player before but it is hard without the foot pedal.
I NEED WAVE FILES

Dear M.Ts.

I am in need of M.T. Wave files to improve my skill.  If any body is willing may mail me.

Playing WAV Files
I am a new MT and the company that I work for does not offer trouble shooting.  When I download a wav file from their FTP site, it will not download into express scribe or bytescribe, in which I have both set up to play wav.  I do not have trouble downloading anyother sound files, just the wav.  I also have in the past been able to play wav files in my express scribe, just not from this company's FTP site.  Does anyone know of something that could cause this and how I could fix this problem?  Thanks!
Are the files encrypted? (nm)

Practice files?
Is there an internet source I can find to download 'practice' files, the kind that sounds like a realistic dictation? Because I find my course does NOT prepare me for real-world dictations.
Help! When I recieve files

Hi,

I have word 2007 and when I recieve files to transcribe I can not open the files so I can transcribe the Doctor's report.  I have heard there is something you can do to word 2007 so you can open the files to transcribe and then send the files back to the Transcription company. Can anyone tell me the steps to take to do so?  I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks,

MT

There is a free version of Express Delegate
http://www.nch.com.au/delegate/index.html

I don't use it, but there is lots of information on their website. Perhaps you can contact the company for any answers not found on there.
Test sound files
Check out CNC Transcription. No cost, and good practice.
You open your voice files with sm
whatever software you're using for voice, i.e. Wavpedal, etc.  You don't open them in Word.
Question about digital sound files

I posted this on the main board but thought maybe some of you might be able to give me some advice too. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am totally new to medical transcription and have a question. In doing transcription digitally, what are the most common sound file formats? I am about to take a test (both written & verbal) for a company and they sent me my test files as .wav files. The files are hard to understand at best  (the guy sounds like he's talking into a tin can ) and I am wondering why they didn't send them to me in a clearer form such as MP3. I am about to ask this same question to the person sending me the test but I thought I'd ask it here too. Is the .wav format the most common form of sound file for MT's? And if so, what's the best program to listen to these files in? I have Windows Media player, Real Player and WinAmp on my computer. Are there programs that MT's use to better hear these files? I hate to sound like a total dummy here but I'm new to this and when I went to school several years ago for MT, we only did tapes--not digital! If anyone can give me some info here, I'd really appreciate it!

Best,

RT

i need sample voice files to practice

I need help. I am a recent graduate and I would like to know what websites offer free sample voice files where I can practice.  Thanks

I send my wav. files back and Encrypt them

I'm confused ... you should be opening the voice files (sm)

in express scribe or some program like that.  Word 2007 is used only for typing the actual files you're listening too, it has nothing to do with opening .wav files or anything other than text files.

One main problem with AutoCorrect is that the normal.dot and .acl files
If you're going to rely on AutoCorrect as your Expander utility, make sure you back up your normal.dot and .acl files regularly. If the files become corrupt (and with Word it's usually just a matter of time), you will lose all your AutoCorrect and AutoText entries, macros, and some other customizations.
Hearing actual dictation files versus professionally read ones was a major plus
