It certainly gives me pause to know that there are many MTs in the process of retraining for *other* jobs--and that even more are thinking about it.

I'm not looking at this with rose-colored glasses, nor I have I decided for sure that this is the best move for me.  In fact, I'd say you've suceeded in planting a few new doubts--but then again, that *is* what I asked for.

I understand the career is changing...  and like any field, it has enough frustrated workers to fill any message board... I also see a lot of people working here, and plenty evidence of success, as much as I see the frustration and failure.

I understand the job description is changing, and that finding a good wage can be tough...  Is it indeed *too late* for a career in MT of any kind?  Are those who are still entering into the field by-and-large doing so unwisely?  These are the questions I have to answer for myself...

"But go ahead and do what you want to do..." you say..  Please understand that I'm sincerely seeking a wide variety of answers and have not completely made up my mind about anything.

I need a new career with more flexibility and independence, and have thus far found no better leads in that direction.  I'm certainly open to other suggestions in that regard, too.
