red one is, but I use my Stedman's equipment book a bunch, though still have to use on-line sources too as there is always new equipment coming out and the book was probably written a year before it comes out.  

Why would a company advance you to paid status if they are able to get you to do the work for free.  You should get paid for your time and knowledge.  I am new also, only on my second week working, and on full QA.  I am getting paid, as you should be also!  My advise would be, quit now, put this 'internship' as professional experience on your resume, and begin looking for a new PAYING job! 

Where you are at now they very well may never intend to advance you to paid status.  I'm willing to bet the company IS getting paid for these reports that you are doing the work on. 

Remember to check into any company that is offering you a job.  Unfortunately there are crooked companies and people out there.  Best of luck to you!

I will be graduating shortly. I understand how hard it is to get a job in this field without experience. I know that 2 years is preferred but I also figure that some is better than none. I have been doing free transcription work for free in return for a letter stating I did work for you. I will only be doing this for a short time so take advantage of this offer! This would be a great opportunity for any ICs that have an abundance of work right now but do not want to hire anybody, or if you just want to lower your workload for a short amount of time. job boards.  There are companies that will hire from the resumes and don't post openings.  Unless you went to one of the better schools you probably don't stand much of a chance of getting an at home position.  Even if you did go to one of the better schools it may be difficult to find an at home position.   There are companies that will hire newbies and pay them almost nothing, there are companies that offer mentoring programs that may or may not pay you anything and some may even cost you.  There are companies that may offer you a position and then say you have to buy equipment/software from them first.  These are probably not legitimate companies and you need to stay away from them.  

Most companies want 2 years of experience, though there are exceptions.  Your best bet would be to look through your local classifieds and see if you can find a position in a physician's office or a hospital.  

I'm looking for a temporary med. spell checker. I hope to purchase Stedman's soon, but right now I need a decent spell check for employment testing!

Where I live the local votech school has a very high placement rate and if I wanted to work in house, I would start by taking their MT course. My local school's course is far from complete though, and there is no way a national company would hire me with just that course and no experience. 

I have no idea what the local employers would think about an online program.  We're kind of in the sticks and they really rely on the local tech school to pump out grads that can do the work the local companies need them to do.  Its practically tailored to the needs of the local economy.

I'm going with an online program because I want to be sure I can gain employment, and I want thorough training.

Career Step, M-Tech, Andrews - I have a family member who is interested in getting her daughter directed on a career path (she's 18).  I'm not so sure MT is for her, but I'd like to at least give her some basic info.  So, how much do these programs cost and how long do they take?

It's important to keep studying and practicing right up until you land the job you studied and worked so hard for. Time away from your studies will nevertheless, leave some cobwebs in your mental attic.

I've started to assemble some online quizzes (free) so students can keep learning. It's so new in fact, I have one done.  lol  But I intend to put some more out there if the response is good. I need a beginner and one who will test this out with me and for me. It would be nice for the others if we can get this in the right direction.

I just signed up for Allied MT School.  Have any of you graduated from there, and did you like it?  Also, did you have any problem getting a job after graduating?  I am a bit discouraged with some of the negative reviews.
