You will be interviewed by US employees, tested by US employees, and be working with off-shore employees with heavy accents both spoken and written.  I wouldn't work for them.  You make your own choice after searching the archives.

You can do a search on...

the Better Business Bureau or Google them.  That's what I have done in the past.

Good luck with your job search!!!

What do I search for?
I've searched for people looking for independent contractors, but they are generally companies. I'm wondering if there are searches that others have done for a doctor looking for an independent contractor and not just companies and I'm wondering if anyone else has had success in doing so, anywhere on the internet and not just here?
Do a Search!
This subject is broached EVERY DAY (along with "I can't find a job....help!").  Do a search, you'll find plenty of information.  Research is one of the top things MTs have to excel in to be any good.
Search
If you type the company name into the Google search box on the main page and click the Search MtStars, you will get a bunch of posts that have the name of that company in them.  You can also search the company boards.
search
There is search box right above all the posts.  If you type in your school name, it should archive all the posts about that school. :)
How goes the search?
It's tough, but you'll find something. I got a spot with Medquist a year ago. I also worked for Sten-Tel for a while as an IC. Not too bad, mostly VR there, and they treated me well, but I didn't want to be an IC. Needed insurance.
Maybe we can help with the search

I have looked at many MT forums on the web and have seen the same things over and over about the frustrations of the job search for New Graduates. In response to these messages and posts, I have put together a comprehensive Essential Tips Guidebook which features useful information to assist with the job search. At Focus Infomatics we are starting to hand these guidebooks out to anyone struggling to find a position that applies to one of our jobs. This guidebook contains helpful topics such as: a background of what to expect in the search, lists of companies and websites to find jobs, MT forums and groups to network, putting together a resume, interview techniques, earning and wage estimates and much much more. I am confident this guidebook will help and anyone who would like a copy, can email or call me and we will email it right out. There is no costs or obligations of any kind for this guidebook, only to let us know if it did in fact help you.

We hope this will assist anyone searching for a new position!

thanks

Job Search
Thank you Judy. I go to mtjobs everyday, but I have never been to the other one you're suggesting. I'll try it out.
I did a search on Google for
entertainment transcription and several companies came up.  Most of them are based in California and require that you live withing 30 minutes driving distance from the location of the transcription company.  See www.transcripts.net, also see www.indeed.com, there are similar jobs posted on this site.
Do a THOROUGH search on this site.....
Especially in March, May, and July of this year.
Please search the New MT board. There
:)

M-Tec grad. Do they actually help you with the job search?

Anyone who graduated from M-Tec--

Do they actually help with the job search or just provide the list of partners they work with on the website?  When I first graduated from M-Tec., I went through the list of partners, applied to several, and had been called back and offered jobs at all.  I stupidly took a job with a company that I can honestly say I hate so far (and have only worked for 2 weeks there) and can't see it getting much better in the near future.

I remember getting an e-mail from someone--Kathy, Susan, Karen...can't remember who it was now because my entire e-mail account was wiped out and I lost that e-mail--but whoever it was told me that if I was having trouble finding a job to let them know and they would help out.  I went through the list again, reapplied to many of the companies, applied to several that I had not seen before, and have not heard from any of them now!

I don't know if a lot of companies are just not hiring right now or what is going on.  Nothing has changed about me and before I was getting calls and e-mail daily offering me positions.  Should have taken one of those instead of holding out for this crappy one.   Oh, and I think the issue is also that I only want to work about 15-20 hours a week and a lot of companies are FT only.

If they help other than providing a list, could someone tell me who I need to contact since I can't find the information anymore?  Thanks!

New Grad Job Search
Ive been reading this forum for days and everyday I get more and more discouraged.  Today I found a post about PCDI, which is the school I attend.  I feel confident in the education I am receiving.  They send me emails outlining any mistakes I may have made, and I truly am learning from my mistakes with their help.  I've begun the job hunt and am not having much luck.  Everytime I come across another company, I check them here and almost all of them seem to be 'bad compaies'.  Are there ANY good companies to work for?  I've read the archives and have seen all the bad things about all the companies.  But being a newbie and in need of experience, would be such a terrible thing to gain that experience from a "bad"  company?  I don't want to set myself up for failure, but I deperately need some experience.  I have noticed Trans am hires newbies.  I have read all the negative comments about them.  But being in need of experience, isnt experience from a not-so-good company be better than no experience? Help please!!!
If you search the archives...
You will also find that many of their students DID pass employment tests and DID find employment.  It is all up to the individual.  I have said this before, and I will say it again... There are many MTs who never even went through MT school.  After you find your first job (I suggest searching for an in-house, local position first), stick with it for 2 years if you can.  At that point, employers more than likely will not even ask what school you attended.  They will see that you have on-the-job experience.  Again, it is up to YOU to decide whether your career in MT will be successful or not.
any resources for job search

Hello! I'm a new grad and have been on the job hunt for nearly a  month. Are there any resource that I could purchase to help find a place willing to hire a new grad?

Thanks

You can search the archives for info
The one I found said it was a reputable company.  You can Google, too.
Do an extensive search on the internet... (sm)
and also locally, and test with everyone that allows you to. A lot of companies say they will not hire newbies but some are willing to waive the experience requirement if you test well. Good luck to you!
Scroll down and search this web site - sm

The best schools I know of are M-Tec and Andrews.  You get what you pay for.  Their grads never have problems finding employment after graduation.  Best of luck.

Why don't you search out something local on-site

Most companies will not let you use your "school" time as experience.

I am no expert on the hiring processes, but new MTs need more attention which costs the company more money to pay QA.  It is sad, but all new MTs get lumped together it seems.

What suggestions does the school have for you at ths point?  Unfortunately, if you did not attend Career Step, M-Tec, or Andrews, you may have to work harder to find that first break in this field.

MT is not what it used to be.  You'd have been better off to become a biller/coder and find a job at home.

Don't do it! Do a search on the New MT board for recommended programs. nm
n
Search this board for 'schools' and a few will be mentioned. nm
s
I would search several companies that have online testing
There are plenty of them. You do not have to have years of experience transcribing, but will have an opportunity to show them what you are capable of.
It would behoove you to search the archives on this subject
I think you would find that it is VERY difficult to break into this field and MT jobs are declining. Unless you have someone guaranteeing you can learn on the job with them, with only some medical terminology and transcription training, I certainly wouldn't count on it. People say lots of things. Especially when there is no way to confirm the accuracy of their statements.
Bad school. If you do a search using abbreviation you'll
get more info.   I'm not sure what other abbreviations you are talking about, if company abbreviations or the usual internet appreviations like DH for dear husband.  You can look on the classified board here for a foot pedal, you need USB-1.  You can also look on E-bay, or do a Google search for companies that sell new.   A new one would cost anywhere between $65 and $80.  If you go to the ExpressScribe website I think they sell them now.
Search for comments, but I don't think they'll hire newbies. nm

Search the company board and the archives for info. nm

tons of info on company board. do search.
..
I was a teacher for five years before going to MT. You will find that is a big bonus in your search
I had quite a bit of interested callers who were pleased to see degrees in education and teaching experience in my resume.  In fact, my MTSO calls me to ask me to proof her brochures and such!
Search thru the posts here. Depending on the branch, their newbie pay is only 3-4 cpl. nm

Sorry about that.
focus
I guess everone's experience must be different. I recently started with Focus and have received nothing but exceptional treatment.
FOCUS
I jus quit Focus....they do not speak English, can not type English, are no help, you do not get paid what they will tell you!!!  I worked 60 hours for 2 weeks for a total of 120 hours and just got my paycheck of $106. Not even a dollar an hour. I ran out of work many times. They would tell you to do it one way one day, and a different way the next time. They are reallly good with insults! Please do yourself a favor and don't work for them!
Focus
I tend to disagree with the person who said stay away from Focus. A lot of the negative postings are older. I have been working for them for three months, and I have had few problems with them. Although, they may not be the ideal medical transcription job, they have allowed myself and many other newbies a chance to gain some experience. I cannot say the same for a lot of employers out there. Since working with Focus, it has enabled me to get my foot in the door with another company. I now work for Focus and another company. If it is a foot in the door you are looking for to get started, I would not automatically discount focus.
Focus
Experienced MTs won't work for 10 cent straight trans and 5 cents VR? Wonder if those experienced guys know WHERE their work comes from!!!!!
focus what?
What is the full name of this company?  Thanks a bunch!
Focus
Meagan, I am glad to hear you enjoy working for Focus Infomatics.  I will be starting their apprenticeship this month, and I am looking forward to getting started.
Focus
I started with them in March, and I am really enjoying working for them thus far.  I have a great account manager!  Actually, all of the people I have dealt with at Focus have been super nice.  Good luck!
Focus
What exactly does lack of work mean?  Are you struggling to have work sufficient enough to be considered part-time or do you have just 6 or so hours of work?  I ask because I want to work full-time, but I don't want so much in the beginning to overwhelm me.  Also, are you an IC?  How does that work for you.  I would need to work some in the morning and some at night.  My husband works 2-11 p.m., and I have two small children.  I really need to work around these hours, I just don't know if these is even considered by them.  Right now I am waiting for the internship to begin.  One more question, do you use a laptop and are able to travel while working?  There is times this summer that I will have to be in a different location for a week or two at a time.  I'm really nervous that once I get there, my equipment won't fully work.  Any help on any of these questions would be fully appreciated.  I know it's alot, but I'm new to this world.  All I have right now is questions and many of them.  But thank you for your information and any other information that you can give.  I really appreciate your time and effort!!!!
Focus
FYI, Focus is currently hiring newbies for their FOF program.  It consists of a few weeks of unpaid training for a few hours a day, but at the end of the training you are guaranteed a job with Focus, and they are hiring for both pt and ft.  Focus has one of the higher cpls for newbies that I've seen.  They have an online test you can take.  Since it has been a few years since you graduated, this might be a good way to get back into the field.  I'm a newbie too, and things are really competitive right now.  Best of luck to you in whatever path you choose :).
I would RUN from Focus!
Just read all of the negative posts here about them! I also heard from a RECENT graduate that she contacted them about a job.  They told her that she would have to work for free until her work was up-to-par as far as quality! FREE! With no time limit?! Also, it would have to be between 10 pm and 7 am.  Just contact them and ask them.  If I were you, I would do what the above person said.  Get your stuff together and go door to door.  Just think, you probably only need 1 good doc, to get started! Just 1 to give you a chance! That will get your foot in the door for experience.  My chiropractor just hired me.  But before you do, make sure to do your homework for the going rates in your area for MT work, maybe call some local services and see what they charge and underbid them.  Also, just ask the doctor/office manager.  Tell them you would be willing to work for a little less than what they pay now, just to get in.  Also, you will get paid a lot more for a private doc, than with an MTSO.  Cuts out all the middlemen! Good luck to you!
Search the net by city and state. Many jobs/services out there that you'll never see here or on

Still lots of in-house jobs on the big job search sites. The at-home US MT is going the way

Focus Infomatics

Has anyone heard anything about this company?

Thank you

focus infomatics
my friend works for them and i am starting monday. i am concerned they only pay 8 cents a line though. what do you want to know?
Focus infomatics
Yes, I have worked for this company since October of 2005. The people are terrific to work for....very helpful and always willing to answer questions and make sure you're happy with their company. There isn't always a whole lot of work available, but they are constantly trying to remedy that and keep you busy. Drop me a line if you want to discuss things further. Amber (trblmkr778@netins.net)
I also work for Focus...
and I love it there. I have had no problems whatsoever. The people are very nice and will help to remedy any problem you may have. I make 8 cpl and am making great money. I think the lack of work comes in depending on the account they have placed you on. The account I am on keeps me busy all the time and you can ask if it is possible to get a secondary accout to keep you busy during slow times.
Focus Infomatics
I am going to be testing with Focus Infomatics later today. Does anyone have any advice about their test? Also, does anyone know anything about their program Focus on Future? Since I am a recent grad, I would have to complete this 2-4 week program. Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated!!!
