Hey I did not know about that feature! So cool! I am still a newbie and I do not want to jump into Expanders yet. I want to be sure I know what I am typing and how to spell everything before I start relying on a program to do that for me. I will, in time, get one so that I may increase my speed. But for now, I think it is an essential part of still being in the learning phase to have to spell it all out. However, I did go into the auto correct feature and added a few things like RRAR for regular rate and rhythm, of CToA for clear to auscultation. I do clinic reports for an internal medicine clinic so those are used with every report. I figure as I work I can add things in there. Thanks for the great tip!

Auto correct in Word
I agree with auto correct in Word. No need to waste money on an Expander auto correct work great and comes free with Word.
You can create your own in Word with Auto Correct.

If you use Word you can use the auto correct feature

Turn of auto numbering and (sm)
I do it this way:
1. (TAB) Cor pulmonale blah blah blah (ENTER) (TAB) rest of sentence.
I never use automatic numbering ... I hate the indent thing. :)
I'm on 2007 in 97-2003 compatibility mode if that helps.
Unfortunately, that's correct. SM
This board has several posts from new MTs in the same position you are - try reading through a few pages and see if you get some ideas. :)
That is correct.
The pay does suck but if you want the experience it is a start, although a low one. I am currently looking for a new job with another company.
There was a new MT that said that he would work for free. He might as well sign on with Sten-Tel because you are practically working for free.
Olympus is correct - nm

Correct answer - only cap if.....sm
only cap medical Transcriptionist if it is a company name....I am an MTSO with my first name and surname coming before, i.e., [My Name Here] Medical Transcription Service
They were correct. Should not use contractions
unless it is in quotes. That is where becoming familiar with BOS will help, though not all companies follow the guidelines strictly. I don't think that is reason enough to not hire you though if that was the only issue. I have been doing this 20 years and what the account specifics were for one company were not the same for another and I had to relearn the way I did things.
The article WOULD have been correct....
You now have a different president with a completely different agenda that he is going full throttle on.......universal healthcare.....
The govt is NOT going to pay for paperwork (transcription), which is why Obama wants everyhing on a computer, which is another problem, considering the privacy threat there but doesn't matter, O wants to govern and control everything.
Because of the aging population, there definitely would have been a need for more and more MTs, but considering Obama is pushing fast to have government run healthcare, that has changed the playing field considerably. That is why healthcare companies are going to him first before he gets his claws in their companies..... they are trying to put his brakes on before he tries to rule them too! Proposals are being made by the healthcare commpanies to cut their costs to the patients over the next few years in hopes this will keep Obama at bay, at least until he's out of office.
Too bad the pharmaceutical companies aren't offering to cut their prices! Don't see Obama going after them either!
So, unless healthcare corporations can keep the prices down AND afford to outsource to transcription companies, only time will tell.
The baby boomers would have been a sure bet for more MT jobs, but all bets are off for right now. Four years from now may tell a different tale.
Yes, you are correct. IC=Independent Contractor.

Yes, that is correct...sorry if I worded it wrong.

type 2 is correct, no caps

Patti is correct. I do not pay quarterly- sm
taxes anymore. I was doing it but it seemed silly since my husband was having extra taken out from his taxes which covered my taxes. We still end up getting back about $1500 every year. Total waste for me to send them $1200 a year just to get it back a few months later.
There is no need to correct grammar or spelling mistakes on this board. (NM)
