It's political, it's money and advertising. Nothing more than glorified link exchanges.
Only difference in those two schools is price, and they up their prices because they use the SUM program, which you can get on the Internet yourself. They are interactive now with a cool word processing program that a child could use. You don't need a lot of instruction for that.
Neither of them "place" students either. They send them to their buddies to get tested. Anyone from anywhere can hop on the net and do the same.
The "hype" on these schools is boring and old.

Amen Sister!

Oh that is bull
I went to a CC and 4 of my instructors were CMTs. And the book thing? If they offer the courses, they have the books. Ridiculous.
well, it is possible. You could have your sister or somebody be your reference
and lie about how much experience you have and you would never be found out, at least not that way. So, to answer your question about what would happen if you lied about your experience, probably in all actuality you would either a) be able to test for jobs you were not eligible before and/or b) you would get one of those jobs. And if you were really quick to learn and had good training, you could probably swing it and manage to get through those first horrible six weeks where you can't even figure out how to run the software much less understand what the ESL is trying to say. Then again you might not be able to make your line count or QA minimum to keep the job. That's happened to newbies before. Then you would be let go. But I don't think anybody could actually PIN it down that you did not have the experience. Perhaps you can look for a mentor instead or offer to work with an experienced MT and pay her for checking your work over. Like your own in-house QA person. All in all, lying to get a job is probably not a habit you should cultivate in the long run because you reap what you sow.
AMEN!!!
Take your attitude elsewhere.

Amen! s/m
MT stars has turned into a giant pity-party, and if you don't come here to vent and blame you're not very welcome. People that post positive advice or production tips are ripped to shreds, since many posters seem offended if you don't just agree that everything everywhere sucks. Its outrageous how many refuse to change their situation for the better, answer every suggestion with "yes, but!", and all they do is whine. Geez, how many other professions have support boards that warn newbies to run away, everyone in it hates their job, and the only encouraging words are for those who quitting the profession entirely!?!
To you newbies - Don't believe all this negativity. Especially if you've already invested time and money into doing this, give it at try. It may be the perfect career you've always wanted - it was for me. Don't let a bunch of sour grapes from low producers discourage you. The majority of good, happy MTs are too busy making money to waste their time coming here to bash their profession and discourage everyone.
Career step and Meditec-sister courses-sm
I understand these are two in the same course ran by sisters. One charges much more than the other. What makes Career Step any better than Meditec if the Meditec course is basically what Career Step is using to begin with, and the Meditec lady wrote the course?
