Express scribe
Shoot. If it's not loading the files into the program, then I'm not sure why it's not working. Sorry. I don't know what else would work.
Express scribe
Express scribe does play DSS files - you just have to change the settings, as they are not one of the standard files it is set up to play. When you're in express scribe, go into settings at the very top, and then go over to the Files tab. This gives you options of the different types of files that you can get it to play. Check DSS and then it should work for you.
re: Express Scribe
First you have to know what kind of foot pedal you have, it is either a USB port or a COM I or COM II 9 pin. The USB just plugs in where the 9 pin needs to be screwed into the back of your computer. Then after you get ES downloaded, click on settings, then go to pedal and hot key settings. Then click on the kind of foot pedal you have and then do the foot pedal wizard. It'll have you press the pedals and if it responds you have it set! God bless!~
EXPRESS SCRIBE...HELP!
I am so irritated, my computer and everything on it screwed up today, so I erased and downloaded express scribe, and I can't remember what my settings were on..I know now when I try to rewind it doesn't go back as far enough as I need it to, and I Have no clue on how to make it. I have the speeds on 1000, all of them.
Express Scribe
Can anyone shed some light on Express Scribe. I was looking to purchase for me to use along with the 3 part time girls I have working for me. What is the cost, but more importantly what special equipment do I or the doctors need. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. I have a call into the company as well.
THANK YOU!!
Express Scribe is not the only software. nm
xx
I have express scribe that I play wav files from my other job on
c
express scribe is not a tape transcriber. SM
If you are working with cassette tapes, you need something to play them on. You cannot just upload them to a computer. You can input them to your computer via a transcribing machine.
Express Scribe is a digital sound player. It plays voice files that are already digitized.
For testing I needed software that I could download free
but I could not get the footpedal to work. Anybody have experience with this? I downloaded Express Scribe to listen to the dictation.
Thanks in advance.
There is a free version of Express Delegate
http://www.nch.com.au/delegate/index.html
I don't use it, but there is lots of information on their website. Perhaps you can contact the company for any answers not found on there.

Foot pedal
What type of foot pedal are you looking for? What type of connection - USB or does it have pins?
Foot Pedal Question
Does anyone know why a company would want a transcriptionist to use a serial foot pedal instead of a USB foot pedal?
Alternative to foot pedal
I also can't use a foot pedal due to MS. I went to Career Step and used the keyboard to start and stop tapes. I don't remember what the keys were re CS but now I work for Medquist and use control-space to start and stop tapes. Good luck with the course. RM
Let's say I have the foot pedal and software....sm
...how much, if anything, would you charge me?
They are different kinds of foot pedal. The ones
generally mentioned here hook to your computer, not to a C-phone and they are not interchangeable.
tendinitis from foot pedal
Maybe your chair is too high. Try lowering your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor then you won't have to bend the front of your foot so much in order to push down on the pedal.
I can't operate a foot pedal due to disability is there another way of doing this?
Hi
Dur to spina bifida I can't operate any foot pedal devices. I have been interested in doing the MT course for awhile but was told I could not beacuse of the foot device. I would like to know if ther is a way around this and if so does anyone know of a good online school to take the course. Thanks Lindie
Andrews provides the foot pedal and software to run it
Andrews provides the foot pedal and software to run it. They also teach macro or expanders.
Just received a foot pedal that I need for a job I will be starting...sm
Everyone starting on this new account I was hired for need a Boomerang foot pedal so my recruiter sent them out. I told her that since I work on my laptop I needed a USB but she never responded. When I opened the package it has a 15-pin port. I did a search and it seems that is what is available. Is there an adapter so I may fix this problem. Otherwise, I'm not sure what can be done except letting them know I won't be able to take the position.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Universal digital foot pedal
Starting out... looking for a universal digital foot pedal that i can afford!
Looking to buy .wav player foot pedal that is compatible with PC-DART
Any suggestions?
Tendonitis in ankle from foot pedal usage
I was so excited to find my first MT job in late February. I noticed right away that my feet would swell a bit after sitting at my desk working for extended periods of time. I just attributed this to sitting to much and didn't think much of it, because if would go away once I got up and moving. Over the last week, my ankles have begun swelling to the point of pain, and the pain is very similar to what I have experienced with ankle sprains in the past. I have been icing it, and this brings the swelling down. The only activity that induces this pain/swelling is transcription. It now appears that I have developed tendonitis from the awkward position necessary for foot pedal usage. Great! Am I the only one with this problem? Does anyone have any ideas for dealing with this. Not using the foot pedal is not an option. I have tried turning the pedal around backwards to force myself to move my ankle in a different fashion. This morning I am trying using my heel without the use of the ankle. The is terrible. I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give me. Thank you.

I just bought a laptop Dell E1505. Your biggest obstacle is the foot pedal as it's a 9-pin serial
port and NO newer computers have them anymore, especially laptops. Also, Escription is not compatible with Windows Vista which also most newer computers come with. I needed a laptop with Windows XP so I went onto Dell and they can "customize" one for you with the XP on it or you can do what I did and 400 dollars cheaper and get it from Ebay. The only thing I noticed was that the new one I got on ebay didnt have Word on it and I had to purchase Word 2003 for that as Word 2007 also is not compatible. Over the last 3 years, I have tried multiple adapters to get the foot pedal to work and finally used one that Escription recommends ..the Dynex DB9 model. I also got it on Ebay for $10 or they can be bought at like Best Buy but they are around $35 I think. There are a few obstacles with Escription and laptops etc.but since I like to travel, I finally got it worked out. I also plug in another keyboard as the laptop one is hard to type on and I like my ergonometer one. Good luck
Good company for getting your foot in the door. Go for it! NM

There are positions where you can either download
work and work off-line or you work on-line and type directly into the company system or the hospital system. If you are an independent contractor you can set your own hours. There are some companies that have a 24-hour TAT.
You need to have schooling and/or training before you get to that point and that takes about 18 months or more. There are some companies that won't allow offshore MTs, so even if an American that might limit your choices.
Stedman's is the best. You can download from their website or
order the CD.
Try Med-Scribe (Utah) or Princeton?
MED-Scribe, Inc. (Utah) -- they don't have a website, but email Teri Mortensen teri@med-scribeinc.com about questions/openings.
Princeton Transcription, Inc has a website you can find by Google and I know they have one psych account.
Good luck.
express
I did this and it did not work. I uninstalled and reinstalled and did this about 10-15 times
Express Delegate
Does anyone have their own home-based company and use the Express Delegate system? If so, could you please supply some information on what it required to set it up and what comes in the package? Thank You!!
TAKE THE TESTS!
Most places will let you take there tests, then they can determine if they feel like you have the experience to work for them. The worst they can do is turn you down. As for entry level johs, search the boards. There are usually a few on there all the time. You might start out with a low pay rate, but it will give you the experience that you can use for the better paying jobs in time.
Thanks!
tests
No I do not need help on the tests. I was stuck on a word in a transcription assignment. I had researched it but came up empty. I just needed to know where else to look or anything.
I do not need help with tests.
foot pedals
I had that problem with the Infinity foot pedal, mine was IN-USB-0 and when I switched to IN-USB-1 foot pedal, it worked and I didn't have to pay for a wav player. They look the same exactly except for this one little difference on the back of the pedals. Look on the back of your pedal and see what it says--might need IN-USB-1 if you have an infinity pedal.
I am new, and I would take it. I wish I could get my foot in the door like that.
Foot in the door
What kind of accuracy do you have? 95% of what? Don't want to start a fight with anyone else, but I don't care who you are, where you are from, if you can type my account with great accuracy, i'll hire anyone. American doc, but challenging.
Getting foot in the door...
I like to think that I'm keeping my expectations realistic. As far as money goes, I'm actually more interested in getting my foot in the door than how much I make. To be honest, no I didn't look into several schools before taking the course I did. Which I do hope does not come back to bite me. I did the At-Home Professions course which, by reading the posts on this site, isn't one of the best schools. But it did teach me a lot of what you said. I do know that even the most experienced Transcriptionist learns new things every day, has to research terms, etc. I also did a lot of work with foreign dialect, and I'll be honest its not my favorite. But it taught me to listen.
I will post my resume on this site. I'll also contact local doctors in my area. I am hoping that because my expectations are low, that I'll find what I'm seeking. I guess what I'm worried about most is that people won't be willing to give me a try. They'd be surprised to find how well I can do. I just need to be given the chance.
Oh and as for my grade, that's just what they refered to my grade as, a GPA. But whether its a GPA or whatnot, it still reflects that I have a good grasp on the material. At least that's what I get out of it!
Thanks again.
Jenn
typing tests
Don't understand the reason either.....I just take the test...
Taking Tests
I am considering MT as an at-home career also and I wanted to know what is the procedure to sending in resumes, taking the tests, etc.? Also, are you hired on an hourly basis or by the amount of lines you can produce in a certain time? Any help and advice you can send my way is very much appreciated.
can you switch off one foot to the other?
Prop up one foot while using the other. Not everybody can do this. may not help that much anyway
Employment tests
Most services want to see 98%, or at the least 97%, on an employment test. Anything less than that is "failing" in their eyes.
Think about it from their perspective. If their clients expect 98% accuracy, you need to be able to produce 98% accuracy. If you can't do that while being tested, which they assume is your best effort, you're not likely to do it on the job later.
Not saying this is a great thing or not, just that it's what they may think.
online tests
I also took the Medquist exam after they sent me an email requesting that I take it. I felt very confident that I did well but was told I did not pass. They said to take it again in three months, which is now.... and now I have no confidence at all to do it.
Passing tests but . . .
Is anyone else having this problem? I am passing tests and being told that though I passed, I don't have the experience required for the position I applied for. They then tell me that they will keep my application on file until some thing opens up that I do qualify for. How often do we see a position listed that doesn't require experience? I know I did well, so I don't think that they are lying to me, but it is frustrating. The only skill I lack is speed, but that will only come with experience. I guess I'm just writing this to vent. Why won't anyone give me a chance?! Ok, now I'm off to take another test.
If you can't pass the tests. . .
If you can't pass the tests, that is an indication that your knowledge and/or ability isn't what it needs to be to do the job.
If you're getting a chance to test, they ARE giving you a chance. THE TEST is the chance.
You can improve your chances by learning more. Get some materials that Allied didn't use and study with them. Get the BOS and learn it by heart and be able to apply it. Get some HPI training materials and transcribe them. Then try testing again.
The one thing that won't help is begging for "a chance." Employers can't afford to spend money on that chance--they have a job that needs doing at 98% accuracy. If you can't show them you can do that, they're not going to give you a job.
The only way I got my foot in the door was to
work inhouse for a couple of years to get experience.
Typing tests
I've never seen a typing test, timed or untimed, as part of any medical transcription application process. Transcription tests, yes, but not TYPING tests.
If I had ever been asked to take one, I'm afraid I would have gotten up and walked out. I would have assumed that the employer didn't understand the nature of the work they were calling "medical transcription." If they didn't understand that, they wouldn't be likely to understand much else about it, either, and that would be unfortunate for everyone.
If you're applying to legitimate MT employers, I don't think they will ask you to take a typing test. I do not believe our students have reported having to take a typing test, either.
You might want to check what MT services actually require.
That being said, you should . . . of course . . . improve your keyboard speed. That isn't achieved by going faster, but by keying slowly enough that you don't make any typos, but just keep going on and on. Eventually, you'll speed up. Try keying medical reports and books. There are lots of them on the internet.
In order for you to work comfortably as an MT, you'll need to be able to keyboard a whole shift, or about 7 hours with a 10 minute break every hour and a half-hour to an hour break in the middle.
You can do this if you start now and work at it gradually and without causing yourself stress. :)
Typing Tests
I have applied to several online companies and I haven't found any that don't require a typing test. Do you know of any? Also, as a newbie with no working experience, it's extremely to get my foot in the door anywhere. Thanks.
Wav pedal
I was just offered a position for MT and I must purchase a wav pedal. I am not really sure what that is. Is it just a foot pedal that has a USB port? I won't need to buy a wav player will I? I expect to pay anywhere from $60-$90 for one. Is that about the right price? Any input will be of the greatest assistance. Thanks
