Contacted
They have not tried to sell me anything. They sent me an e-mail regarding a MT Stars resume and asked me to apply for a job doing MT work with them.
I was contacted once by someone
on this board to intern and then work for her. Being a real newbie then, I accepted. I never actually started because there were so many red flags. Her contract stated that I would not get paid until after she did and, of course I would never really know if she ever did. Her emails were all full of typos and bad grammar. She was not very good about answering emails or my questions. She even sent me a 1099 last year for $199.00 that I never made because I never worked for her. Her contract even said that if I did start and did not give 30 days notice before leaving, I would have to pay her $200.00. I never started because I felt this person either wasn't legit or at the very least wasn't very organized.
I am not saying this scenario is the same as yours. I have no idea who contacted you and do hope for you that it is a genuine opportunity. I would suggest you get all your questions answered up front before signing any kind of contract or agreement, though.
Good luck to you and God Bless.
Have you contacted the AAMT yet? sm
Have you contacted the AAMT yet? They have a message board on their website, and I believe they have a totally volunteer mentoring program.
A lot of new MTs who ask for mentors in public forums run into people who want to be paid, or who want you to work for free, or goodness only knows what.
It is not necessary or desirable to pay a mentor.
If you go through the AAMT program, or at least ask on their boards, you'll be more likely to find an experienced, reputable MT who can mentor you without charge or obligation.
Good luck to you!
