you have it backwards, if you don't go to the doc get a high deductible

having a high deductible will really cut down on your premiums. Say you rarely see the doctor and don't have prescriptions. An 80/20 plan with a $5000 deductible can run you as little as $59 a month, and that has a $500 out of pocket. I have Assurant Health (formerly Fortis), for myself and the kids. For $5000 family deductible we pay about $3000. So the most we will pay in a year is $8000. But at my husband's last job, we were supposed to pay all of the premium for family coverage and they would pay for his coverage. Premiums were going to be $9000. Add a $500 deductible to that and 20% which would probably run another $2000, and a catastrophic illness for one person would be $11,500. $11500 is a lot more than $8000, plus with the Assurant Health plan that is our FAMILY deductible. With the group plan, if one more person got sick, it started all over again with their own deductible. So you have to do the math. Individual coverage for all 4 of us will run us $5300/yr, that is, if they agree to insure my husband. If you have ANYTHING at all, individual insurance will not take you. So keep that in mind too. Insurance is the reason why somebody in the family should have a "real" job :)

If you can get it, do an individual account with a high deductible...sm
but in order to get individual insurance, you have to have NO medical problems. They even put a rider on my son's ADD. Premiums for me and my two kids (husband has ins through work) run about $3800 a year, and we have a $5000 family deductible. Worse case scenario, some one gets sick and it costs us $8800. Premiums for family ins through DH's work were $9000 - sick or not. Good luck. I agree - the insurance lobbied that sucker through.
I have 5,000 deductible
It's more or less catastrophic insurance, however, when I was formerly covered on my job there was a fairly high deductible also. Anyway, I am 53 years old and my premium is 120.00 a month. It's through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. You can bring up lots of insurance information via the internet that does comparisons of different plans and costs based on your age.
Only 50%, 1/2 of SS is deductible
You only deduct 50% of your SS as you are paying that much. Look at your 1040, deudction is 50% of what you paid on your net income on scheudle C.
Tax Deductible Expenses
We ran a business for years from our home. As far as I know, you can take the base rate of your telephone bill as an expense (which includes FCC taxes) and any long distance calls related directly to the business. As for Home Owners Insurance, you can take 7% of the insurance because you use 7% of your home for your business. Also, anything related to the business such as equipment, paper, tapes or special software programs can be taken as well. If you have to travel to deliver the finished reports, I believe the rate is 28 cents a mile. If you travel, you can also deduct any maintenance on your vehicle. Hope this helps.
IMO no, trip is not tax deductible at all. (nm)
x
Only way trip is deductible is if it is
Like if you are going to an MT seminar or traveling to meet a new client, etc. Working while on vacation doesn't count since you aren't required to work from that location.
When it IS business related, you have to have receipts and legitimate paperwork proving it is work related and that you spent time conducting business. A trip expense like that would be a red flag to the IRS to audit you, so you darn well better have excellent documentation.
Taxes are deductible and it does help out at the end of the year.
Be sure to try to get fixed. I have 7.5 fixed for 30. They do have 40 yr mtgs now. And you can always refinance if your financial picture changes. When I moved into my home, i had no cable, a junky car and ate like a poor person. Once, to make my mtg, during a really rough time, i sold my bedroom suite. Keeping the roof over our heads is #1 priority. You sound like someone responsible enough to do this. Would you qualify for this loan on your own? Getting his name on this house might not be smart thing to do during these rocky times?
and don't forget the other 7.5% is deductible off of your income nm
nm
depends on age, health, deductible, etc
Too many variables but figure on $350 to $500 depending on the above. All you have to do is do a search on medical insurance coverage in your area and find out.
Backwards
To me, those posts sound a little pitiful, or as if the poster is too lazy to do any looking. Do you think companies see the ads and say to themselves, "Oh finally, somebody who is willing to work!" If they did, each employer would have to contact you to ask if you were interested in a job with each specific requirement, such as equipment, IC/employee, etc. Not very efficient, right?
sorry, I had that all backwards..lol...sm
Now that I've tried to understand your 2nd post, I believe these questions you have should be addressed with your supervisor over at the company. You will be working from home FOR them, so you need to get clarification about EXACTLY what they EXPECT from you. Hopefully, they will be flexible so that if you make your line count, if a line count is required, you can do the lines in the shortest amount of time. However, you need to know where THEY are coming from. They may want an 8-hour workday from you. Don't guesstimate would be my advice.
Good luck with them!!!
I think you have it backwards
the "laziness" that you describe is more likely due to demoralization with the constant take-aways from companies. I think someone would be foolish to enter this field now and there are those of us who are too old to change careers. I refuse to give the effort I gave when I had quality insurance, good line rate, incentives, etc.
You are backwards
If you use the same margins, gross is more than 65 cpl.
No, I'm not backwards.
When I went from gross to cpl, I checked the math and came out about even. As other posters have mentioned, the font and margins make the difference, which I failed to mention in my first post. I know that there are more than 65 characters in a gross line.
I think you went backwards
If you can do 60 minutes of dictation in 15 to 20 minutes I will crown you Queen of Dictation. If you do 1:1 you are fantastic and I usually do 2:1 and to me it is great and I do clinic and have had the same docs for 10 year. In 60 minutes you would get probably 700 to 900 lines if it was decent dictation and if you can do that in 20 minutes, my hat is off to you. I think you meant 15 to 20 minutes per 10 minute report or something line that which would mean 120 minutes for 60 minute tape. Hvae a good day.
Going about it backwards
I do VR and put my audio speed on the fastest I can go in order to make the salary I want. I never ever go through first and do a read through. You are slowing yourself down by doing this. Why not do as you go? My numbered lists are all out of wack but I change them 1 by 1, never just reading the entire report first. You can get the speed but don’t ambush yourself in the process.
only one office is deductible -- color coding
I use color coding and have done so from day 1. Have 7 docs and they all have their own color for tapes, letter head, returned dictation, binder etc. They are no longer names, they are blue/green/yellow/red/purple/clear and yellow/green. That is the only way I keep their things separate and for sure know who to deliver to what. Am of the old school and this works for me. Also have a monthly board that I keep track of their tapes and time off and that is also color coded.
Only one office is deductible otherwise you could call your entire home an office.
ESL Dictators-I must be backwards
The more I do the same ESL's, the less I CAN do them. I don't mind doing them as it is challenging, but getting the same ones day after day seems to wear me down and I can't think clearly, so it takes longer for me to finish a report. It used to take me 15-20 minutes to finish a report for a certain doctor, but now it may take as long as 45 minutes! I don't make sense to myself. LOL
have no idea - but it is backwards
kind of to offshore.
How about USMTA just backwards from your first one (nm)

I work for a national, $600 yearly deductible and 15-30 copay

home office expenses are still deductible if you are an employee - nm

Rules state anything not reimbursed by employer deductible.

I have a backwards speaking ESL today.
He can't form a proper sentence. "Since discharge, for followup, the patient, two weeks ago, was seen yesterday." I wish it was a verbatim account.
Pepsi, desire you not.
Hey you made a typo. Why would you go backwards? Cause you don't like your job.
That's why people don't like editor. Read between the lines. This editor/poster feels it is going "backwards" to be an MT. I rest my case.
Typing and backwards, what systems do you use?
NM
Shift - home will do it backwards to the beginning

I so agree w/you. Look at what Google just did - bent over backwards to
wanting to catch porn sites.
Why does the US always have to be so darn politically correct. We are going to //politically correct//outselves right out of existence one of these days. Kiind of like that song that says you gotta stand for something or you won't mean anything. We need some boundaries here. *They* won't even let us have a common thread running through our nation anymore of having English-spoken-here to have us be a unified country. They have fractured us to the point where we DO STAND FOR NOTHING.
Husband's plan has no deductible, just copay and pays just straight up to 12 visits a year.
I do have a high deductible for mine, I think $5000 but the important thing to me is that I only pay $35 office visit copay. The deductible only kicks in on lab, x-ray etc.. and I have prescription coverage. The other thing you have to consider, as I also work in a physician's office doing medical billing, is that there are substantial contractual adjustments if you are with a BC plan. Say, your bill is $100 and the "allowable" from the insurance company is $75, that means that your doctor's office has to adjust off the extra $25 and you are not responsible for that; whereas, if you had no insurance, you'd have to pay the whole $100 out of your own pocket, no discount there.
Read the report backwards from end to finish. Works great for me.
Press Ctrl+Shift+8 or click on the pilcrow on the toolbar (looks like a backwards P). nm

Why would I go backwards? Simple thing is to fire the MTs whose quality is crappy. Weeded out abou
I get paid rather well, but I really should not have to do an MTs job. The point is I DON'T WANT TO TYPE!! Why would I want to be an MT and type ALLL THE TIME?
We met in high school. My high school sweetheart
introduced us in a discussion over Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge. I used to race my Dodge Coronet with oldstyle 318 V-8 engine against the guys on the back roads and old highways. High school boyfriend had a Chevy truck. DH had a Ford Fairlane and later an AMC Javelin that just made me swoon. We didn't actually start dating until three years later, and my old high school boyfriend was a bit surprised at that since he introduced us.
Better to take a step up than a step backwards.
Congratulations!
How about a High Five??!!

high 5!!
...Right on! I think many people who are gay bashers are really terrified of the unknown, terrified because they link gay people with sexual criminal behavior - pedophiles, rapists, you name it. I would not expect less of a gay person than I would a straight person when it comes to character and ethics. It is sad to see how many people are terrified of gays because they believe they have an "agenda" - out to turn the world gay!! haha!
It should be pointed out here that many gays have desires and needs just like us straight people - want to be loved, want to belong to someone, want to be committed to one person, want a home and family just like us. That should tell us something, right? Hey, for that matter, there are lot of straight people who will never want to settle down, love sleeping around, live a promiscious lifestyle, but it is only when that occurs in a gay person that it is magnified.
People can be so naive. Throughout time there have been gays in every walk of life - high ranking powerful politicians, ministers, high ranking military men, etc. Some just choose to keep it a secret. Just as I expect my straight friends to have character and ethics, so do my gay friends.
Judge people on their character, their morals, their ethics, not whether they are gay or straight.
high 5!!

P.S. - coincidentally just before I came to the board I just popped in a CD of the 5th Dimensions - remember "Age of Aquarius? That's too funny!

Very high indeed!
I've never heard of anyone making more than .02-.03/cpl off of their subs. I'd say for you to either make some rules (times they can call, etc) and define exactly what you are willing to do for them. If they say no and you really don't care for the account any longer, then just let it go. If you really do want to keep it, the only thing I can suggest is to concentrate on how much YOU are making (and if it's worth it) instead of concentrating on how much THEY are making.
50% to me is very high
I could not look in the mirror if I took 50%, even beauticians when they used to work in a shot got 70/30 and they used the equipment of the shop. If she handles everything but the invoicing I feel you are taking advantage of someone and hopefully you can live with yourself and look in the mirror. I usually do 80/20 but then I pick up the tapes and deliver them to the IC, proof the work and invoice out, do all contact with the account. But to each their own.
wow... is it that high?
I'm making 10 cpl with my hospital and 12 CPL for my doctor's Office
which is 65 character line including spaces
However my office is now deciding they want to pay me a different way since we are completely switching systems and there is no way to do a line count... and now I HAVE NO idea how much to charge because he is thinking by the "minute". well I make almost ALMOST $2.00 a minute and haven't had a raise in seven years, so I'm really at a loss of what to do.
Oh I work for companies in California. Do you live in FL or CA or I don't understand... i mean when I look at the big companies they offer 7 or 8 CPL... am I missing something?! LOL good luck :)
Okay HIGH FIVE!! ROFL

it could be due to the high turnover,
miserable platform, and low pay on the VR programs, and just generalized problems in the company, couldn't it?
with the gas prices going sky high and, therefore, (sm)
the prices of food and other items more than likely going to skyrocket, what is everyone doing to plan for this?
Wow! and I thought $3.19 was high. This is
insane. Thank goodness I've been working at home for the past year. My hubby has been at a job 3/4 a mile up the street for a year now too. A year ago we were both out of town and putting 100 combined miles a day just for commuting to work. I cringe to think how much that would cost us.
Good thing hubby can walk to work. Motor blew in our 2001 Ford ZX2. Maybe it was a good thing? Anybody out there need non-motor parts? Four brand new tires, new power steering pump, new struts, bearings, front and rear brakes, tie rod ends, fuel filter and windshield all in the past 6 months. One thing we forgot was the timing chain and that went and ruined the engine.
Don't really need a car for work and I'm serious considering not even bothering to buy another one right now.
High Level 4
I don't know if we're allowed to post it or not on here, but it's very decent for the MT world, plus they supposedly do raises periodically without you having to beg.
He's in high school and STILL has to have
PB&J with grape jelly? Oh, please don't tell me that! I was hoping my son would outgrow his pickiness once he hit puberty. That's what the pediatricians and nutritionists told me! They said they had never seen a teenaged boy decline food. My son is SOOO picky! I call him a carbivore because he doesn't like meats or vegetables. He's got this taste/texture thing going on. My in-laws said that I was coddling him, so one of them tried to make him eat peas and beef stroganoff while watching him for me one day. He ate a couple of bites and, well, let's just say that nobody has tried to "force" the kid to eat since then. I don't let them watch him any more either. My mother says it's revenge because I was the same way as a kid.
I had no idea pay was ever that high
When you were up that high?
No, this isn't too high. Maybe too low. We're in the
I'm supposed to set aside 33% plus at least 7.5% (the other 7.5% is deductible) for self-employment taxes = total 40.5% of my pay goes to taxes. If I didn't have my DH get extra taken out of his paycheck ($75 a week), I'd have to pay this in quarterly estimates, because if you end up owing too much compared to last year, they will penalize you. I've read too many horror stores on MT boards of MTs who didn't pay their taxes or set money aside. I'd rather pay as I go.
It's probably not high, generally, but
if you're a single person with those expenses and work only as an MT, even for two more companies these days, it's HIGH.
