while people were discussing this subject about a week ago, someone suggested getting one of those large plastic storage tubs and using that. I found one at Walmart. It is about 31 inches long, 20 inches wide and about 18 inches deep. I cut a door in the side of it with a hot knife, but someone else suggested a saw too, as I cannot imagine a box cutter or utility scissors would accomplish this. I cut the door to within about 5 to six inches from the bottom. I filled it with about 3 inches of litter, and it is just high enough to contain his spraying on the sides. He does not like it covered, so I did not bother to buy the lid. It was around $7.00 or so, which is much cheaper than those covered litter boxes. my big boy uses it and so does my little girl kittie. (they have to share, as always). They are happy, and so am I. I don't have to clean up urine any more. and since I live in an apartment now that has very light colored off-white carpet, this has been a real blessing for me. Perhaps the litter box producers would take a tip from this thread, as not all kitties squat to *P* and no all kitties like the covered boxes. Good luck. I am sure you will be as happy with whatever you use, as much as I am with mine. oh, and I use a disinfectant spray on the insides of the sides to keep the smell down and more clean between litter changes. My kitty seems to be happy with that, as well. Hope this helps. and I again thank the OP for the suggestion.
