It's the only place I have ever lived.. Great place to retire or raise a family. Low crime rate e
living is pretty easy here. Low stress..
Just hit Alt+Shift+left arrow on line 1 and it will go to the left margin. Otherwise,
you need to use a numbered list style to do it every time. Each version is different, but you may already have a numbered list style in yours that stays at the left margin. Just assign a keyboard shortcut to that style.
The position varies from place to place..
Sometimes you end up doing VR, which can be really easy or a real pain. Sometimes you end up simply editing files and all is good. Other times, you end up with more job responsibilities and hours than you ever wanted. All in all better than typing LOL.

I'll vent and I'll sign my name sm
I have two IC contracts right now. I recently went back to a job I had quit earlier in the year to work for the other company I am still working for.
The newer job has 80% ESLs. I transcribe OP notes primarily and I can fill in other work types as the opportunity arises. I am frustrated with this particular situation. After 6 months, I am making less money and working longer hours. I am past the learning curve and I should be doing better, at least in the number of hours I am spending doing the job. We have run out of work for 24 hrs at a time at least 5 or 6 times since December 1, and in November it was more than that. I have a friend who worked for this company as well and she was having similar difficulties. The only thing that we can figure is that they are shorting us line count some way, because after 6 months at it, it should be easier/faster/more money, but it is less and less every single pay period. It is not a nice thing to accuse a company of doing, but it SEEMS that way to us. I am fed up with being expected to type every single OP note that comes in 24/7 and meeting the 6 hr TAT for them on weekends, evenings, holidays, wee hours of the morning...
I took back a job I held for 2-1/2 yrs. The team leader has changed and this gal thinks that I should be on call 24/7 for whenever she has work. I might have some at 7 a.m., or perhaps not until 6 p.m. or later. I can't plan my personal life and between these two IC situations, I find that I am not eating on a daily basis, not showering on a daily basis and not sleeping more than 3 or 4 hours at a time. I have lost weight and I don't feel very well. I woke up today with a rip roaring head cold (my first in nearly 8 yrs) and it has already moved to bronchitis and I am expecting pneumonia by the weekend because I develop it very easily. I already have deep pain in my back.
Yes, I should call in sick tomorrow, but I really can't take the fallout. The job I took back I am covering for another gal who wanted vacation over the holidays and if I have to call in sick, the team leader will call me and pitch a fit about how this is my responsibility. It IS my responsibility, I did say I would do it, and I will do it, despite being quite ill. In the past, when I worked for this company, they would not allow me to call in sick for a "cold" without a doctor's note. I worked through many illnesses with them and only called in sick when I developed West Nile Fever and while I was sick for over a month, I only called for my last 12 reports one day when I could no longer see the computer screen because my head hurt.
The problem is that yes, many MTs lack work ethic. They don't take their responsibility seriously. This is not a work as you please career, not even for an IC. I can see the MTSO's point of view, I truly can. Like finding experienced, reliable and capable MTs, for the MTs who are these things, finding a company will treat you like a human being is equally difficult. I sit here, feeling lousy and like I am an utter slave labor with no consideration whatsoever. I know that my work needs to be done, but when I am this sick it is better that someone else do it for the sake of the work, for accuracy and for speed of getting it out. I know that I am needed, but to be the MT these companies need me to be, I also need to look after my own health.
I will also mention that when I have asked for vacation, I have been approved for the time, but the MTSO queues up my work and calls me then I am not on the system getting it done. I have told them I had been approved for time off, but the MTSO didn't schedule anyone to cover for me and I am told to get on work, vacation or no, if I want to keep my job.
Thus, I work 24/7/365 and have for years. I work sick, I work when I am in pain (I have an AI disorder), I work exhausted from staying up all night covering for others who are allowed to call in sick and have vacations when I can't have either. I work having no health insurance and not being able to afford the $125 a month to buy some with a high copay so I can see a doctor. I work without breaks for breakfast, lunch or dinner and I sometimes come close to having an accident because if I leave my desk to go to the little girls' room I get nasty calls about where I am at and what I am doing.
Many MTs are mistreated, and I am one of them.

Not right now as seems everyone has left
due to the line counting rip off issue. Otherwise do run out of work tons of times.
That why you left?
x
you left out one
>>>How darn hard it is to quit. I have tried everything. Patches, gum, Wellbutrin, Zyban, cold turkey, etc.
You had the dream, but you didn't have the drive. You have to want it badly enough to stick with it NO MATTER WHAT.
I'm talking from personal experience as a former 2-1/2 pack per day smoker.
Last cigarette was May 6th, 1992. Quit cold turkey.
Did you get your pay when you left?nm

I should have said "I left him and TOOK the
baby, the dog, the IBM and the dictaphone! Eek! Sounds like I left them WITH him! No way!
What - that you left 24 and QA was able to get 16 of them? LOL
x
I left because of it
Unprofessional emails and phone calls.
Nope. I ain't takin' it. I respect myself more than that. It was the attitude of everyone in the company I came in contact with. Unbelievable.
Getting out of MT, I have left MT
because of the reasons stated below. Because I was a good ER MT, I received all the crappy dictators, accounts, you name it. Even told the MTSO that I was getting burned out with all of the crap, but six months later, I came to the conclusion that getting an ulcer was not what I wanted for my dedication. Tried four or five different companies, and as a poster said below, they lied about everything (accounts, lines, ease of use of program/software, amount of work, etc.) So I'm gone. Kind of miss the medical transcription work I did but do NOT miss the BS that comes with it. They used me until I couldn't bear it anymore.
Yes....I just left my MT job ....
I relate with these comments 100%. I worked for a great service with a great owner for the last 10+ years. First started out in 1989 making great money ( and on a typewriter) with decent turn-around-time and simple common-sense formats. Over the years, the Turn Around Time has decreased, the formats have become a maze of ever-changing rules, and as others have stated...no money! I might as well get a job that is less wear and tear on the body and mind. "Chained to the computer" described the job well. I resigned a few weeks ago what had become a sweat-shop job. Seems like instead of the computer making the job better, it has become worse. Someone mentioned they heard it said MTs were making too much money. That is eerie because I remember hearing that comment 15 years ago and I tossed it off as sarcasm. Now I wonder. This job is nothing like it used to be. So, as stated I QUIT!
There was something you left out in
your post. What about the possibility that this person makes good money because they just guess and "fill in the blanks"? Or maybe they leave a lot of blanks so that they can do more work?
I have come across this before. Not all MTs who make good money are getting good money because they are good at their jobs. Some pad their lines, and some just make up stuff to fill in the blanks. To all of those GOOD MTs out there who struggle to make the money they once used to make, don't let people put you down as unworthy because they think they are better than you.
I left my job too
After 7 years and I should have left sooner. Their VR and platform were awful (Spheris) I was making half of what I used to. I have not gotten away from VR but I have 2 jobs where at least I can be more productive. I kept waiting for things to improve -I thought if I just worked on it it would happen- now I feel a lot of the stress is gone.
Thanks, what was left of my sanity has been...
restored!
I'm beginning to wonder if that's all there is left is
crap dictation. Most of us say we're doing the crappy dictation and ESLs. So the good stuff is really going overseas or to VR? Or are there people here who get the good stuff all the time, which is why they make good money and we don't?
If you are just looking to align left or...
To align (left, right, or justified) you can either set the page up before you start typing by going to Format, then Paragraph, Indents and Spacing. You will see a General section that says alignment. This is where you choose how you want it set up. If you want to do this after you are finished typing, highlight all text that you want to format. Right click. The drop down box will give you the option of Paragraph. Choose Paragraph. This will bring up that same box that shows Indents and Spacing. Go to the General section where you see alignment and then choose which option you want (left, right, justified). This will then apply it to the text you have highlighted. Hope this helps.
no hair left
i hate to tell you but it doesn't get any better. been with them for over 3 years -- i still have my hair, but have lost my sanity!!
I've left MT too
Good for you!
I just left China
Actually, I just left China. Poor old souls. Not many pretty women in China.
I needed to get home to the states to see all the beautiful women. I felt like I was intoxicated when I came through the door at Medquist and saw all my beautiful gals.
If acct is on ASR, what is left for MTs
is the worst of the dictators that have always and will always be a problem. The best speakers are put on ASR to the machine can under stand it. They've got you. It is no faster that using expansions. There is no production increase, so there should be no decrease in MT/ME pay. THAT WAS THE DEAL! I will go back to cut and paste an old post that says what happens.
Think of them as right and left arrows.
Think of them as arrows on a number line.
<__5__6__7__8__>
If the arrow is pointing right, it's greater than. If the arrow is pointing left, it's less than. Think L (left) for Less than.
The left Menu....
The left Menu is actually a javascript for fast loading of pages. Your browser's scripting is disabled.
Go to "Tools -> Internet Options..." from the main menu of Internet Explorer.
Change to the "Security" tab
Select "Custom Level".
Make sure "Enable" is selected under "Active scripting"
Restart the browser.
If above doesn't work, run some Spyware or Anti-virus, because most of the viruses and Trojans stops the javascript in first place.
Yea!!!!! I found one - man had one left!!!!sm
Thanks for all your help - if I had not found one - I would have definitely checked out those Amish horses. Thanks to all for your comments. Just found out Papa John is going to start building these again after the first of the year.
With the national I just left,
you need to basically double your production in order to break even with what you earned before by transcribing. And they're doing VR with the better dictators so only the worst dictators are left. And yes, they overhire, as well.
I'll never go with a national again. Was the worst experience I ever had. Give me a smaller company any day. They seem to treat people better.
Email left...thanks!
It's to your left on this board. :) nm

"Boards on the Left"
I dont' have any boards on the left. All I have are "Top", "Home", and "Contact" which stay on the left and scroll with me. If I go to "Home", I get a list of boards but not all of which are mentioned in posts, such as "Easter" and "States". Why am I missing boards, and how can I get "boards on the left". Thank you for your time!!
Now I'm really feeling left out...still can't here anything.
If you left him, it would not make you
It would make you sensible. So your needs and wants mean nothing? Daring to fulfill them makes you selfish? But it's OK for HIM to do what HE wants, right?
I don't understand you. You're changing your tune now, big time. The guy does anything he pleases, walks all over you, and you take it like a timid church mouse. Then you decide you want to do one thing and he throws a fit (and not the first time, either). You offer a solution to the "problem" you have just created, but that's not good enough for him because the real problem is that you are daring to have a life on occasion outside of him. He is manipulating you and controlling you. And if you think your kids aren't seeing the dynamics of this, you are sadly mistaken. If you have girls, they will think it's normal for a man to treat them that way. If you have boys, they will abuse their own wives, just as you are being abused.
And as for getting another man, sometimes you can go from the frying pan into the fire. Why not go it alone for a while and find out who you really are?
I know you don't want to hear this, but you are being used, abused, and brainwashed. I only hope you wake up in time.
Hi PP - there are still 2 boxes left....sm
wanna come visit and have some truffles? *lolol* Congrats to your DAUGHTER!!!! Smart cookie she is!!
My daughter has a beau for 6 years now and they are engaged and very serious. It's MOM (me) who questions *if it isn't broken, don't fix it* - *LOL* - but I'm 200 percent behind them and am very supportive.....I just FEAR marriage (after one very_long bad experience) and yet I try not to put that on her. *grin*
Well you and I are about 15 miles apart....just a hop, skip, and a jump for you, eh? *HAHAHAHAHA*
Be well, sugar!!!
I left a national job for at a
job at a doctor's office and it has been a DREAM job. No more worries about line counts, learning new dictators all the time, switching accounts, etc. Dont be nervous that you have not been to a job interview in a long time. Just relax and be yourself. Remember, a job interview works both ways. You are interviewing a potential employer just as much as they are interviewing you. .... So go get that nice outfit out of the closet, polish your shoes and go for it!!! Good Luck.
Please let us know how it goes.
I believe it should be left up to each child and
what they are comfortable with (of course also what the parents can handle too). My son has to be limited to 1 sport at a time along with his guitar lessons. Anymore than this at a time stresses him out and I know this. He makes mostly A's with his occasional B. (He is 9 years old.)
In saying that though, I have an 8-year-old daughter who prefers to be very, very busy. She is also an A&B student She run CC track, does ballet, on a competition cheer team and gymnastics and is wanting to add a dance class. For an 8yo though she is very good at time management. She starts her homework on the bus and takes it with her to work on between classes some nights. She has been at the same dance studio for years and they know how she is, so she goes and sits behind the front desk to do whatever she feels she needs to do.
I guess what I am saying is this... Your child will let you know if it is too much or not enough. Just give them the chance to make the decision and not have you do it for them.
Well, I was lucky that he only left it on...
and did not dictate the whole time, but it does drive me crazy to have to listen to over three hours of "dictation" and not get a penny for it.
I never left. So let me see if I understand you. SM
I'm a big bad virtual monster that is scaring off would-be MTs and posters too afraid to post their questions cause I might chew them up and spit them out? Listen, this is a discussion forum, opinions will fly around here and before you post you should be prepared for that. I don't have the time or the patience to coddle every shrinking violet that comes along.
If you post a question or ask for advice, expect to get it and expect that not everyone is going to say what you want to hear. Be an adult and accept that there will be disagreements and use that as a basis to form your own opinion.
Furthermore, the only character assassinations I have seen on this board are from you attacking me. You don't like me, I get that and I don't care. See how easy that was? I'm not going to whine about how rude you are or email my virtual buddies and talk about how awful you are because I know what this forum is about and I accept that there will be disagreement and debate. I comprehend the fact that my opinions may not go over well with some and may even make others mad. So what?
This forum is an outlet. A place to vent, to get advice, state opinions, ask questions, give answers or just conversate. My every happiness does not depend on the people I talk to on this board. My mood isn't affected when someone calls me rude. At the end of the day, I shut off my PC and I attend to my family. Whatever went on at MTStars today is forgotten in the instant it takes to click "shut down."
Sheesh!
Just look at your toolbar..it has left, right, and
nm
YEAH, and that's why I left. (sm)
So if he was treating the MTs badly even before you gave notice, aren't you glad you DID? (And don't you wish you'd given him NONE AT ALL?
There are only a few boards left
so I think I'll post on all of them and then make up my own!! When you've worked for nearly 4 years in an office and you're the only man, you learn how to take instruction pretty quickly! (Well for me, it took way to long, I'm a slow student) (drumroll please?)
Seriously, though, sm I've garnered enough advice from the "three boards" to get a good picture of what I want to do. I'll just take the plunge and see what happens. I'm still keeping my day job so no worries about stability.
Are there any good MTs left??
What has happened to the MT who is committed to working hard? My experience with hiring in this field has left me very frustrated. Yes, an MT will test well, and their resume brags of experience, and they blah-blah-blah with all that you want to hear about hours and availability and knowledge, but once hired, that all goes "poof!" You find that they don't have the knowlege they boasted of, they only want to work a few hours a day, if that, (after promising full-time hours), and they don't answer your e-mails and calls after a while. Please tell me there are still people who want to work, who want to work hard, who take pride in their work, and who actually stick around for more than 2 weeks! Be honest on your resume, be honest during the hiring process, and please don't waste everyone's time. Let's keep MT jobs in the US by practicing what we preach - Quality, hard work, dependability, and love of the job!
