I have never used them, but I found this when I was looking for a way to transport some paintings across the country. Apparently you describe your move and then movers, either professional or just folks who are going that way, "bid" on your job. You aren't obligated to take any bids. Maybe someone going your direction can add it to their load?
The other thing I would suggest is craigslist -- both your origination city as well as the destination city. There is a link for "Rideshare" under Community and also one for "Moving/Labor" under Services.
