I would like to find a job that I do not  have to proof report 2-3 times as when audits roll around  QA dings for more grammar than actual medial terms.  I would just like to sit and type. I have done this for 29 years, and we all make mistakes, but it is just rediculous anymore.   This company I work for now is so picky about even the smallest thing such as hyphens, comas, colons, etc that a few of MTs on the same account are becoming so paranoid that we are wasting too much time on each report and IM each other that we are not getting anywhere.   I have lost my rhythm with jumping around so much for each WT.  I love to do Op reports and have asked twice and that is about as far as it gets.  I used to enjoy transcription, but not anymore.  If I could afford financially to quit I would.  I used to do over 1200 lines a day, but not anymore.  I feel like I am back in high school English class.  Those days are gone.  Jobs are hard to find anymore with the economy the way it is, but at least I have something coming in, but just not enough and I still am working two jobs.  Just getting tired, frustrated, aggravated, you name it.  Thanks for letting me vent. 

I worked at the same company for 17 years, left in 2003.  Since then, I've been job hopping.  The problem is, any company can tell you anything they want about how good they are.  You can't really find out the actual workings of a place until you work for them.  So, I get hired, no problem, work for 3-4 months, and if I'm not happy, I start looking again.  Since 2003, I've tried 5 different companies.  I'm looking again. 

This is the weird part:  I always seem to get responses because I have extensive experience.  This time, I applied 4 places, got 3 responses, one of which I immediately ruled out after searching them on the company forum, so I applied and tested with the other 2.  Passed both tests, they were both "very interested" and passed me on to the next step.  Talked with the next person in line, received e/m from one "will call you by such-and-such a date."  The other, message on my answering machine, called them back, person was busy and would return my call.  Then.... nothing!  From either one.  It has been one week and no contact from them.  So I'm wondering if there is a blacklist of MTs.  You think it's possible ... names of MTs who have had more than a couple jobs in recent history and left after a few months?  I just really don't know what to think. 

One of the companies that I was really interested in, I even wrote to the last person I had spoken with and asked them to let me know if I was still being considered or not, because I had other offers to consider and needed to make a decision.  Nothing.  What do you think?

Her post had not the slightest to do with cherrypicking, you have egg on your face, and you SHOULD apologize. Though I doubt you will, as you get to hide behind your anonymity.

I've just not had much luck with any service and the one I spoke about above was the worst.  That was early in my career and I felt like I was pretty close friends with the supervisor and then to be treated the way I was treated, really just hurt.  Ever since then, I've distanced myself in my work life.  Business is business.

I will say, though, that I am a loyal person.  If I'm treated fairly, I will give 110%.  I think that's what happening these days in the MT world.  MTs aren't getting treated very fair and there are just bad feelings everywhere.  You're constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.  If a job offer is too good to be true, then it probable is too good to be true.  And now everyone is playing cover your behind and making sure contracts cover everything.  I just think MTs need to play hardball like the big companies.  If you are working as an IC, you should have a ready made contract for whatever service you contract with.  Why should you be the only one signing rights away?

I've also had the opportunity to read the contract between a big service and one of their hospital clients.  The line rate that this particular service charged was mind boggling.  I don't feel bad about stealing accounts away from services like that.

there to be locked up.  The banks are scampering around if you notice.  They have written notices that they can raise your interest rate to 28% or more for just about no reason on the credit cards.  I think they have let way too much money borrowed out be on the books, and now the little man is having to pay either with money, or his financial credit. 

If you read about GOLD, gold is selling for a lot, all over the world, even in this supposed stable time.  That's a sign they say that things aren't as steady as the powers that be want you to believe.

expanders/shortcuts and he said that's all he used to transcribe and that he was making $$ hand over fist this way and his wife too.....again he said he never *typed* anything, only used shortcuts for absolutely everything regarding MTg....and in that case you could do 500 LPH I suppose.....if not even more

I don't know the cost of this program any longer, but when I bought Shortcuts from him it did cost $149....it was a very long time ago though....hopefully that price came down over years.....

I think they are a total mismatch.  I don't see how she could have been attracted to him, ever.

I loved it.  I have the same problem with my fiance.  He comes home and makes cracks if the kitchen table has stuff on it.  My deck is the other side of the kitchen table so of course it has stuff on it.  Men, gotta love it.

I hate it! She is obviously "shopping around" as they all do. There is no loyalty when it comes to wives. If you cannot afford to dump them, then hang onto them until you can replace them. She will make your life miserable. I did the label stuff with the 1" pressure-sensitive transcription labels, Don't pay stationery store price.I am sure you can Google it. I used a paper cutter to "chop" the transcription and return it. The wife wanted me to take the face sheets, already handwritten by her, and print on those! I hope it's a large volume account. If she's saying get as much as you can on a page, she is being ridiculous, the only way you can handle that is to reduce your font and then she'll want you to reduce your price. I feel your pain dealing with the wife, they're ruthless!

If you can't get them to go digital (God forbid, that costs money) then you will have to work around her. I have walked that walk and it ends up you'll have to be the dumper instead of the dumpee which will happen eventually anyway because of $$$.  My heart aches for you. If it were a big $$$ acct. you could set up a laser printer offsite there with the bottom half printing out the labels and the top the letterheads. But, of course, they wouldn't want the work of cutting and placing it in the chart. Been there, it hurts! I thought the doc would intervene in my case as he would rave to everyone about how pleased he was, but he said he only deals with the patients, does not want to know anything about the office staff problems. I finally gave them a notice and left promptly after two weeks. My pocketbook suffered but my pride suffered worse that he didn't step in. Grrrr! If you know digital, you could also buy them a recorder (out of your own pocket of course). Hope you get some good advice here, it's been awhile since I dealt with those "paper dolls" I used to call them,.

No wonder you have to do all this.  He has a wife telling him that you should be doing all this.  First of all, if he pays you, you need to be talking to him about this, not her.  Secondly, you need to decide if you can afford to go without this income.  Do you work for anyone else?  Could you pick up more work elsewhere?  If so, then I would do as other posters recommend and confront him with a new charge schedule.  If he wants you to do the corrections in-house, then have him schedule a time for you to come in and do this and tell him what your charge is.  If he's late, his office should have the courtesy to call you.  If not, I would make it a point to call in before leaving to check if he's running on time. 

He doesn't see consultations for free.  His time may be valuable, but so is yours.  Don't shortchange yourself.  Nine chances out of 10, he knows what he's doing is wrong and also knows that no one else will do it either unless he hires in-house. 

I don't need 9 accounts to have to get work. I rarely pull work from most of them because I have get enough from my primary.

It is utterly ridiculous that you find a negative thing to say about everything you read you nasty, nasty lady.

I am an 80's teen, so he's a bit before my "time", but I still absolutely LOVE him! He is so awesome. I'm jealous.

I don't that the responders were jealous but sharing their experiences with you and telling you that there is a chance that you may not get that raise even though you feel -- and I agree -- you probably deserve it.  But at least they stayed through your move with you and you no longer have to pick up, deliver, print, etc. and kept you at your same rate while someone in the office was doing that.  So that saves you time.

 Again I barely pay attention to the cpl that I receive.  I look more at the hourly rate that I need to make and see how that works for me.  Especially since I also do mostly clinic notes like you and have the same dictators and can make so many templates, macros, auto corrects, etc.  -- I can type 300 to 500 lines per hour.  So at 12 cpl that is good money.  I utilize hundreds of short cuts, do not do repetive typing at all.  So that is money in my pocket and I feel a raise as I am working less and making more.  The MT world is going the same way as the trucking profession did several years ago and I lived through that with my husband.   10 to 15 years ago it used to be so lucrative driving a truck and now a days you are lucky if you break even.   Look at the foreign truck drivers that cannot speak English and or read the road signs.

I still feel that it is the insurance companies that are getting rich and I know that the physicians are not getting rich from them when they receive anywhere from 60 to 75% of what they bill out, but the insurance company does not cut our rates 60 to 75% when we use their PPO's.   If you raise your rates 1 cent per line, that is about an 8.5% increase which over five years is not that much.  I did raise my rates this last year and explained to them that I had to either raise my rates or get another account and then they might not be receiving the same service that they were these past few years.  They all said "Raise them"  so I did.  All you can do is to be honest with them, do not be defensive but do be prepared that they may not like it.  I think that is what everyone was sharing was that be prepared for the worst, hope for the best and go for it.  After having some of my accounts for 5 to 18 years I still get butterflies in my stomach when I raise the rates.  But even though I have only gone up 3 cents per line in 16 years, my production has doubled so I  work less and make more. .  .Anyway that is my thinking for what it is worth.
