what I know

In Reply to: closed caption tv typing and court stenographer - wondrin'

I went to court reporting school, but ran out of money, You can do it in 2 years or less if you are very dedicated, it all depends on how long it takes for you to get your speed to teh reqiurement of 225 words a minute which is done in ShortHand type language, not straight typing.

As far as close captioning goes, there is going to be a huge need for captioners, because a law was passed (don't know the specifics) where all TVs and progams must be captioned, so they are in desparate need for captioners. I say go for it, the money is awsome. I still have my school stenograph machine with the hopes of retraining myself at home. I learned the shorthand, but I just needed to develop the speed, I think I made it to 80 words a minute, before I had to stop.
