west coast metropolitan area gets 14 cpl

Posted By: west on 2008-01-30
In Reply to: IC Line rate/tax questions - pam

yes, 14 cpl with pick up and delivery. Probably one of the highest in the nation. But, my friend who did local work for 20 years was just outsourced to India along with the other gals, the whole large clinic, so there goes THAT job !

BTW, do you already do local work? Do they supply the transcriber and set you up, or do you have to have that set up already and set THEM up? That has been a mystery to me as I have only worked online with nationals....how to get started with local work.. Maybe a counselor or something like that. My friend is no help as she started 20 years ago for the same company and does not know how things go nowdays.

West coast prices are usually higher (I work for a west coast company) sm

for one thing. I am in a rather economically depressed area and I START my price at .14 and drop a penny for each of several things - no tapes, sending electronically, etc.

This job of the OP may be a bugger-bear to transcribe. Even .14 may be too low.

East Coast and West Coast are both comparable
as far as line rates.
Where are you located, HE? East Coast, West Coast? nm

West Coast to Amherst
I am a little confused--areyou located on the West Coast and your account was transferred to Amherst, did your office close?? It seems that any account that Foxboro or Amherst gets, they just load up with as many MT's as they can, this could be from over hiring and it could from the lose of existing accounts, whatever, it does not make sense, you don't go around making thrats about hiring other people. Is upper management getting bonus's from this??

Come on over to the west coast too where interracial marriage
It is very small minded to think that crossing races to marry is wrong.  Again, we are all people, no matter what color we are.  For example, I would rather my daughter marry a black man who treated her with respect, love, kindness, being an equal than married to a white man who treated her like trash.  Note that I said EXAMPLE, the race could vary of course.
im sure it will be... maybe moderater is on west coast time?
I dont know how the moderating works, but if I got emailed and my post deleted because i said the name of another website just in asking a question... then this surely must be deleted
West Coast Hasn't see the show yet. Please keep this in mind next time. NM

We were very lucky....were blocked in though on our private road, 11 trees fell over the road. Took 2 hours of all the neighbors pulling together and going nuts with the chain saws to clear the road....fun!

Great West covers Botox for headaches.
Otherwise, go to a neurologist. It only costs $425 and worth every penny.

It sometimes is really hard to transcribe patients complaining about their headaches when your own head is about to explode. I did learn how to take charge of my own care, which happened to be extremely useful because the pain management physician I was assigned to ended up being the biggest idiot on earth. I was finally able to change doctors.
Texas Coast
just had the CBS affiliate on here in Miami and they are saying Ike is now a Cat 1, but expected to strengthen to a Cat 3 with landfall either in TX or Mexico by Saturday morning.
Gulf coast still devastated
Some of you do not realize how devasating the two hurricanes this past summer were to the coastal states and the country.  If he is working anywhere near the devastation, the areas are congested and nasty.  Trash is still being piled up on the streets, the stench is unreal.  Hotels in Louisiana still house evacuees.  He might just want to spare her from what he has to look at while he is there.  Until you see in first hand, it is unbelievable.  My son had a doctor's appointment in NO a couple of months ago, (Goes to Ochsner once a year), luckily that was one small part of the city that was not devasated, but as soon as you got into NO the smell hits you.  A once beautiful city, still in devasation.  Even where they did have people living, there were still street lights out sporatically everywhere.  I will be a long time if ever.  Sorry, got off the subject.  Just trust your heart and trust your husband.
You must live on the east coast..sm
I used to live there too and it was either rain, humidity or hurricanes. I feel your pain, and I am so glad I moved back to the midwest. I wish you luck. Keep your powder dry!.
The East Coast is a big place.
The going line rate in NYC or Boston would probably not fly in SC or FL. Your best bet is to call around to some clinics in your area and see what they're paying. Also, I would bill by character line, not report. JMO

You can't judge people by what coast they live on....
I am originally from the East Coast and I am NOT a "nasty woman". The writer was cold hearted yes....but it doesn't give you the right to blame the East Coast. You could live anywhere...it depends how you were raised in the long run. I was taught to always treat others as I would expect to be treated...imagine that from an East Coast momma! Have a good day.
Yes, live on W Coast and my acct transferred
over to Amherst.
Anyone else along the gulf coast who is watching Rita?

East coast will pay that amount and even go higher

11 to midnite East coast time
is when they'll be watching it.
Two of them are metro one Midwest and one East Coast so....
that means many, many physicians, probably hard to get used to them, probably teaching hospital, so many residents? Many ESL's??? Probably huh? Hmmmm. Scary!
Took an RV trip last year and toured around the west, one of my favorite stops was Palo Duro Canyon
outside Amarillo, and also Santa Fe, New Mexico.  No trip this year, just had a baby, but hopefully one next year!
OK, I'll bite -what on earth does the East Coast have to do with it?
Please enlighten me!
I tested at a local hospital on the East Coast...
The pay was $14.82 per hour to start. They were paying medical unit secretaries $14.60. Also the job was per diem, needless to say I didn't take it.

I feel for them but more so for the people on the MS Gulf Coast who are still in tents sm
its cold here now (27 degrees this a.m.) and some people are STILL sleeping in tents behind the truck stops. :(
I miss the food on the East Coast totally. sm
Love Colorado to live, but really miss the culture and the food on the East Coast. I stop at a simple diner on the PA Turnpike in New Stanton, and a cheeseburger and cole slaw is better than any dinner I could get in Colorado to me.
On east coast, paid $2.87/gal for regular unleaded today.nm

looking for part-time Emdat work, preferably with clients in the East Coast
I have been making an average of 10,000 lines per pay period (bimonthly), on QA-optional status, but my accounts are based in the West Coast while I am in the East Coast. I usually work from afternoon to night to reach my daily goal of at least 1000 lines, which is not good for my family.

I would like to find part-time work to keep me busy in the mornings instead of nights. I prefer clinic accounts, ESLs or American dictators. I am willing to take a test anytime especially in the mornings EST.

Thanks!
Which part of Maine and NH were you thinking of visiting??? The Maine coast is beautiful -sm

and the White Mountains in NH is also nice.  I would suggest driving the Kangamangus Highway in the White Mountains in NH.  Very nice drive and beautiful views of the White Mountains.  I believe the Old Man of the Mountain is along this route but part of him fell a while ago so not sure what he looks like now???!!!

Is DSL not available in your area?
It's worth it to have it.  It's tax deductible as a business/work expense.  It's only about $35 a month here total, compared to $20 a month for dial-up.  It's so much faster, more reliable and easier to use than dial-up.  It also doesn't tie up your phone line like dial-up does, so no need for a second phone line and no getting bounced off the Internet when someone calls while you're trying to work.  I'd still have it even if I couldn't write it off on my taxes.
I'm in the D/FW area and we have taken in several ...
and Dallas is making sure the children are in school, there are special job fairs to make sure the adults get jobs, even though our economy was terrible to start with, companies are making jobs for them, and every one that is interviewed says they are never going home and making their home here in Dallas/Fort Worth. I know they need places to say, what happened to them is terrible, but this area really did not need the strain of all the added people. Several of the people have been offered new housing back in their state or such, but they say they do not want to move again. I just think everyone needs to be looking at the big picture as to what is going to happen in the long run, as New Orleans is going to need some of their residents to come back and help rebuild. I have a son that has been looking for a job for over a year in the field he went to school for and has had no luck and now he has to compete against 1000s more people. I just don't get it.
If you have one in your area, may I
They are a corporation who apparently does give a rat's a** about its employees. They don't give their top people big bonuses, etc. and instead pay their employees a living wage...a REAL living wage and have one of the best reputations for treating their employees like real human beings from all I've read about them.

Since you mentioned you were also from CA, I was wondering if you have seen much about relocalization and eating local? I have read a lot about this and try to only purchase goods that are produced within 100 miles of my home in the South Bay or if not available within that radius, only from our state. I have also started my own vegetable garden growing different types of squash, lettuce, spinach as well as others in addition to fruit. Everything I am growing is either from seed that is not genetically modified and is organic or I purchased from the nursery from organic growers. My housemate is suprised at how much variety we have with our container gardening. She was just saying this morning that she never realized how easy it was to grow things yourself.

Another thing to support your local farmer is to sign up for a CSA. They had an article not too long ago about how organic goods really wanted by consumers, but even though these goods are organic, they are being brought from different parts of the world, which kind of kills the organic goodness considering you are expending oil to deliver it.

As for offshoring of our work, I have found since I moved to CA getting close to a year ago that there seem to be a lot of companies who do not offshore and will not consider it a consideration. I think there is hope:)
bay area MT . . . sm
You see, I am right!!! They also had an article not too long ago about what the true savings from offshoring work has come out to. Instead of getting the 50% to 60% or more most places advertise to cut costs, the only real savings has been around 20%. They had an article about that in our local paper as well as I think I saw it on Yahoo News if anyone wants to search for it.
What area are you in because....
I had to fight to get $1.35 per minute IC directly from a hospital and was told that was the average.  I recently did some math and figured I was being paid between 8-9 cents per line.  I get 10 for a PT IC position.  Trying to figure if I should ask for more again, especially since I get several different doctors now that they use hospitalists.
Is this in the KC area?
I'm from a town just north of KCMO and plan on moving back in a few months and was just wondering if you worked for one of the hospitals there? I currently work for a national, but am hoping to get a local job when I move back.
