and please dont get me wrong... i know these times are hard for everyone and i hope your work picks up or you find a job that helps... but regarding the holidays... so many of us (myself included) have made this a buy buy buy holiday. I'm been so upset this year because I have bought barely ANY gifts but I simply cannot afford them. So then I realized, it is time for family and togetherness, as generic as that sounds... life is short... it's not about "things" it's about people. And I'm not super religious, but this is a good video below.

Spanish, French do celebrate Christmas in USA
Middle Eastern Arabic people do not celebrate Christmas nor the Jewish people (and Chanukah comes early 12/3 this year so they should be working. Russian Christmas is in January. The Hispanic community as well as the French communities here in the USA, as I know it, certainly do celebrate Christmas. Happy Holidays To All....

Just an aside, around Christmas time
I was wrapping gifts here by myself, Christmas music blaring on the CD player, and got a call from telemarketer. I answered the phone, but put the phone down, and let them listen to music. As I was busy, I was in no hurry to hangup the phone. Don't how long the phone lay there or how long they listened, but I got a chucklel. I now have fun with them, at their expense.

I'm on a break, updating some software on one of my work systems; while that's going on I am on my laptop looking up my books for the fall and planning my fall work/school/study schedule.
Your daughter certainly has her hands full and yes, we should all be in awe of her. It IS difficult. Pursing an education can be tough enough, much less working while you do so. My absolute best wishes to her and to you for raising such a successful, motivated young lady. Congratulations! You should be very proud of her!

Why even answer if you don't celebrate?
I think you owe the OP an apology for that outburst. She even said "for those who do" and didn't seem to be ASSUMING anything. Easter is far from a "Hallmark" holiday. It has deep spiritual and religious meaning to those of us who believe in Christ as our savior and it's very offensive when you say it is celebrated only for the benefit of American manufacturers. On the contrary, I think there are precious few American manufacturers who will stand up for anything Christian these days, even if it is their personal belief.
Sounds like you are jaded and I think that's sad. If you do not believe in Easter, why not just ignore the post? She has a right to her beliefs and she has a right to post them, same as you. If you posted pagan information or whatever it is you believe in (since you are PaganMT, I figure it's pagan beliefs), I would just skip over that post and not even read it since that is not my belief. Why couldn't you do the same for her? Perhaps you are not so sure about your own beliefs and that's why you become so defensive. You also appear to know very little about Easter and why it is celebrated other than for eggs and bunnies so perhaps you should look into the true meaning of Easter before you speak again on the subject.

I'm a Christian, I don't celebrate Halloween but
I do have a harvest carnival for my friends kids. They love it and every year it's bigger than the year before.

This is a U.S. holiday so the ESLs don't normally celebrate it at home anyway, so

Any good ideas to celebrate 50th Birthday
A friend and co-worker turns 50 next Tuesday and we are planning a 1950s celebration here at work.We are gonna dress in poodle skirts and jeans and t-shirts, etc., but I'm looking for something else... maybe a unique poem..or any unique ideas? Anybody have any tips? TIA!

Certainly, all the countries you mention (Middle East, etc) can be considered oriental, since the word just means of the east. ("We Three kings from Orient Are.") But I have never heard anyone use the term "Oriental" to describe someone from Turkey, or Saudi Arabia, or any Caucasian person in the eastern hemisphere; only to people from the Far East (many Americans tend to muddle people from these countries into a group because of their similar physical characteristics). At any rate, Asian is the favored term today. Oriental things (such as rugs) are a different story. My cousin (age 54) still uses the word "Oriental" for people from the Far East... she also gets Arabs and Indians mixed up. oriental/occidental

he still is the most tender-hearted man I have ever known in my life, the same as 28 years ago when I married him. He knows that I firmly believe that his drinking is wrong and that it is killing him (which I don't want to happen), but, leaving him is not something I want to do (been there, done that). I choose to stay. Not everybody's situation is the same and, Biblically, I have absolutely no reason to leave him nor do I want to leave. I hate to see him killing himself this way and that is something that I pray about daily.

IC status meaning
I worked 3 weeks for a company as IC status. They wanted a schedule so I did one and then the work was not coming through so the third week was told not to do schedule; it did not look like the MD I was going to have would get into a routine. I did the work at night or early morning. Was told I had to work my schedule even if I had no work I had to be there in case it came in. Does IC status not mean TAT and production but flexibility with schedule as long as you get the work done. Also it went from 60 minutes to 120 and then at the time I finished the 100 minutes 85 more came through and it was like she expected me to do it right then. I had 24 hours. Also was called as soon as it uploaded at 4p.m. one day and was asked "ARE YOU TYPING". It was not my scheduled time and it had only been uploaded about 30 minutes. What is your take on this. IC does not mean be harrassed if not an employee with benefits right. No work for 3 days and then hounded as soon as it came in. I am not there now because I voiced my opinion.
IC meaning independent contractor?
As far as I know...no...for independent contractor, they do not have to pay any benefits or even take out SS, so I would think it would be MORE not less for IC. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

From your description, you have been more than understanding. We set our hours and we work them, but are not sitting here every time something is needed. I have worked 3 IC jobs (simultaneously) in the last 1-1/2 years, and can tell you there are wonderful companies out there that are very considerate. You don't need this one.

I think a lot of people go the extreme -
so, if I had to be one way or the other (being a humble extremist myself...*LOL*), I'd rather have too much self-esteem than not enough (been there, done that the first 30 years!!! *L*). And I am a truly humble person, been recognized for just that.....but because of *been there, done that* - and all sorts of therapies (not drug therapies), some end up the other way. Oh well, this was a fun couple of posts - so I thought.
