I don't know if it can alter the test results for microalbumin, but if her PCP feels she should start a low dose antihypertensive, then it is in her best interest to do so. Diabetes is a very progressive disease, despite how well we control it. It will and does affect our other organ systems. She is awfully young to let things get out of hand. I wouldn't personally (and I say this as someone who also has type 2 DM) want to wait 6 months to see if it improves. No one likes to take medications, but if it will improve the quality of her overall health and prolong further disease related side effects, she should just bite the bullet and take it. Just my humble 2 cents. She may also want to seek information from other areas, like diabetes.org.
