Hi! I am new to this board. I posted a message a while ago, but i can't find the thread. Anyway, i will just repost my query.
In one of the reports I transcribed, a doctor dictates "labia majora swelling" and I typed it verbatim. The report was pulled for quality check, and the statement was recast into "swelling of the labia majora". Sadly, it was credited to me as a syntax error.
I feel that the statement is medically correct and acceptable. If, it is syntactically incorrect, is there any ruling regarding medical syntax?
Are there resources or articles, which could help me regarding syntax in transcription? thanks

I know my QA people are toads. I get the same crap where I am and when I don't type verbatim they say -- he didn't say than and make it verbatim. You cannot win. It's sad, it really is.
Syntax aside, there is
a chair available that uses an exercise ball as its seat - there's a framework with casters that holds the ball. I haven't tried it but am considering it. I saw it in a catalog from Gaia - Real Goods, who sell eco friendly stuff mostly. Has anyone tried one of these, and if so, how is it?

I personally did not read your original post as being written by an Indian. I personally might have used the word 'placed' or 'used' instead of 'put,' but honestly I think all 3 words would have been correct.
I also have seen several posts where the syntax struck me as suspiciously Indian in origin, but your particular post was not one of them.
I'm not certain how long you have been visiting this board, but perhaps a couple weeks ago, there was a poster named EMTJack. I think he may have used a few other names too. Anyway, he claimed to be American, but he was clearly Indian and working for a company whose website loudly and clearly proclaimed that his company prided itself in providing cheaper prices by off-shoring the work. Ever since then, our nerves are a bit on edge, and we are most definitely on the lookout for weird syntax postings!

I seem to recall learning that no comma was necessary when the 2 adjectives described different things. Since pleasant describes her personality and elderly describes general age, no comma necessary. If it said "A pleasant, jovial lady" then you'd use the commas since both describe personality. I think it's easiest to do as someone said above and ask yourself if you would or could put an "and" between them, or if you feel a pause is necessary in the sentence to separate thoughts. Although you possibly could put an "and" there, most people wouldn't say "pleasant and elderly" and I don't feel a pause is warranted there, so I think it's fine without it.

In #2, it's because "multiple slcerosis cannot be exluded" is a whole sentence. Not sure about the first one.

Could someone please clarify for me when I need to use a comma before which? I looked it up in BOS but I need someone to explain it to me in plain English. Also, does anyone know if there is a feature in AutoCorrect to change 1 space between sentences into 2? TIA!

QA is correct; the commas do belong there, and it would be wrong to omit them. The first comma is a series of adjectives; the other comma is to separate two conjoined sentences.
I would put a comma but definitely not a semicolon.
Omit comma in your example.

I agree - comma if it's informal nd first name is used
and colon if they use the last name. (Dear Dr. Martin: or Dear John,). That's what I've always been told.

I'd lose the comma after the male and replace with "who is".
Otherwise, the sentence is fragmented. Do you have carte blanche to edit for clarity and style purposes?

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co
That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself. They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make. Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that. Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints. I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good. You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.
I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research. Way too much info.
I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)

Where does it say that Amphion is using Interfix to send work overseas? As I read it, Amphion has used this company which HAPPENS to be branching out to Trinidad and Tobago, but I see nothing that connects the two. The statements in bold don't say anything except InterFix has helped Amphion interface more effectively.

Employees pay their own taxes just like independent contractors. The only additional tax the IC pays is the employer's 50% portion of FICA which, if I remember correctly, is 7.5%. I fail to see why so many are under the impression that as an employee the employer 'pays' their taxes. I've been an IC for 2 years now and have seen my taxable income decrease due to the numerous deductions I'm eligable for. (We have an accountant do our taxes for us, whose fee is a business expense/tax deduction/overhead item - whatever it's called. That's why I use an accountant!) Lately it seems that many are opting for employee status, which is fine, but I'm not sure that an accurate picture is being given of the ICs gross vs net income.

Went missing
Does it bother anyone else that TV shows, news reporters and newspapers are saying "He went missing last week..." Shouldn't it be "He has been missing since last week...?" I've asked friends and family, but they don't notice. I figure transcriptionists are more aware of grammar than regular people. It makes me crazy when they talk about someone "going missing." They're not going anywhere, they're just plain missing!!

I first heard someone on a local news station say it last year. Now I hear it everywhere? Where did that phrase come from? I guess I "went missing" when that phrase was invented. Irritates me too. Oh, and so does Nancy Grace whether she is saying went missing or anything else.

What's the deal with someone going out of town? or not letting the employer know?? Is this person an IC or an employee? and why is it that so many "employer's" do not understand that they cannot dictate hours of work to an IC? maybe this is the case? I know I have dealt with plenty like that. Perhaps, I am wrong - I know I missed something somewhere in all of this.

the point. I think knowledge and experience should pay a whole lot more. My point is if you do learn all you can and can do every kind of report type and do it with an excellent report then you will not have the problem of not being able to make any money when the companies are only paying 8 cpl. The pay is not going to get better anytime soon. I know there is the exception to the rule and the companies, mostly smaller companies, who pay more but there are so many larger companies that are paying the 8 cpl. Personally to do OP reports all day long I think I should be making 15 cpl! Wouldn't that be nice but it isn't happening and I am perfectly ok making 8 cpl and doing what I do for now. Its better than no job at all.

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray
Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.
I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.
I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.
I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?
Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?
Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.

where would you be if your daughter was missing (sm)
in another country? The posts on down the board are appalling, some of them anyways! I would hope that any parent in their right mind would be right there, no matter where "there" is, if their child were missing. I know I'd be whereever I had to be. I could not rest until I was there, waiting and helping to find my child. I'd go to the ends of the earth to get my daughter back, no questions asked. And maybe people are donating money to them so they can stay in Aruba and help find their daughter, as well as keep their lives going back here at home. Where has compassion gone? It's truly sad that we ridicule people for simply wanting desperately to find their lost child. Just Sad.

missing lines
I have had lines missing and they always pay me on the paycheck. It never shows on my lines but when I get paid it is added to my lines.
missing girl
I did miss some of it, but if the missing girl was the man's daughter, then she was alive. His daughter was the one at the beginning with the ring in her nose. Maybe someone else who saw the whole thing can fill in the details.
They are the same thing or else I am missing something.
The music is nice, the pictures are nice but what in the world is the message? Not worth the time...sorry.
