A good way to upload a voice file is to send it by FTP to an in-house computer. This keeps it off email and the web.

You can also tell from the name on the voice file. sm
The files are named sequentially, lowest to highest. That should also help you to detemine which ones are the "oldest".

an .exe file is not a voice file
I'm no techie, but it sounds like they might've sent the wrong file by mistake. Or could it be a program you need for testing/working for them that they sent? What is the name of the file (if it is something you can say here)?
can't play voice file
I was sent a voice file to transcribe (test) and I can play it but not at the same time that I am in MS Word. What am I doing wrong? TIA
It wasn't on a voice file. It was on an old Lanier, but (sm)
my friend transferred it to a tape (she had the dictation) and I listened to it. Gross.
free voice file software
I am in need of a software that plays .dvf files. I currently use Gear Player, and although it plays a multitude of different files, I can't get it to play .dvf. Does anyone know of a free one online I can try? Thanks!!
Do you have the voice file type checked for

Download the voice file to your computer.
Then open ES and load it in. If it's not a supported file format, you can get a program like Switch to convert it to a supported format.
Way to increase/decrease voice file.

I highly doubt that an itune voice file --sm
would be compatible with your software footpedal. my footpedal software recognizes certain types of voice fils like WAV or DSS, etc. but I seriously doubt if itunes uses those types of files. you can try though, but don't count on it. Save the file to a location where your digital voice player will locate it and try to open it. if your digital voice player will open it, your footpedal should work. but again, don't count on it.
Right click the voice file and save it to your computer.
I'm not wasting 45 minutes of my time for a 2 minute voice file.
I'm not wasting my time on a physician who can't or won't speak half way decently, English born or not. I don't have to work for crappy doctors. I found ones who are willing to make an effort if they can't speak English, they try and spell things as do my English docs. I've been an MT for a VERY long time. I'm an excellent MT and have nothing to prove to you. Have a wonderful holiday season filled with KINDNESS. Try being a little less judgmental. Sounds like you ride atop a very high horse.
Works great for me. Fave voice file player is an

Start Stop voice file player and conflicts with Spyware Doctor
I was having problems with StartStop and talked to one of their techs this morning. One of the bugs it was having was fixed when I turned off Spyware Doctor so I need a new anti-spyware program.
I’m thinking of trying Spyware Blaster. I called to see if there were any conflicts with that one but had to leave a message. In the meantime, does anyone use StartStop voice file player and also use Spyware Doctor without any buggy conflict problems between the two softwares?
upload/download...
i know nothing about wireless -- but with DSL mine were taking only about 15 seconds when i signed on. Then i got a replacement machine and it was back to about 5 min to do the initial upload. Tech support said there were problems with the new DQS version, so my replacement machine was reverted to old version. Don't know if any of this is helpful, but that's all i can offer...
I think if the FTP is "secure" you just upload using either their -sm
website using IE or using an FTP transfer program. I am actually looking into this myself right now. Was thinking about Metroscript but they charge way too much, $15 a month + .34/mb uploaded to the site. It would cost me a min. of $135 a month to use it. So I am looking into those that offer secure FTP but with no fees other than the monthly usage flat fee. I have no idea about cable, I use dial up (no cable or DSL here). As for inspectors, I highly doubt that will ever happen.
Not by email. You have to upload sm
to another site, zip the filed and send. Try sendthisfile.com
Satellite upload speed is not much (sm)
better than dial-up. A lot of companies don't allow it because their own crappy platforms will time out waiting for your upload. You just need to look for companies that don't use a platform. Keep looking! There's some MTSO out there looking for you!
Cool! Try photobucket.com to upload them to

I have mine all upload from a folder on my PC.
I just go and periodically clean out that folder.
Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.

How long does it take for you to download/upload jobs?
I am wondering if I have a slow connection or if it is DocQScribe uploading/downloading jobs too slow. I have wireless internet because it is the only service available in my area besides dial up. Would love to hear some feedback on this. Thanks
Just keep in mind that you have to have software to upload the files to you.
Cheap handheld units sold on ebay do not offer that. Those mentioned are older models and do not have the software to upload to FTP. No offense to the last poster, but the handheld units that do have software to upload to FTP are newer models and cost more.
You're also taking your chances buying on ebay, so OP, whatever you decide to do, make sure to only buy from Powersellers or sellers with no less than a 98 rating.
Listen/read/proof and then upload
I don't do VR right now, but when I did I would only go through it once. Only on a very long one would I ever go back through it again and only if I had a problem would I listen to the whole thing again. I started out doing that and realized I was never going to make above $4 an hour if I kept that up.
I think it is the same type of file, so rename it and replace your autocorrect file with your DQS us

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm
I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you
Depends on the file format of the Short Cuts file.
ShortHand comes with a utility file that can import various formats. You can get that file with the trial download of SH.

I used satellite with 2 different platforms and the download and upload speeds were just
that satellite was just a 'step up' from dialup, but it was WAAAAY faster and very comparable to the cable and DSL I previously had. I had more down time with both of those because the companies do not want to spend the money to repair connections and lines running to the individual homes (this from a Bellsouth tech after his 8th visit to my house). Plus, living here in Florida, I was able to work last year during and after swipes by 4 hurricanes. Our phones were out for 2 weeks and cable was out all over town for even longer. Just plugged my surge protector into the generator and off to work I went. Give me my satellite any day! Thank you so much for your encouragement! Right now I guess I'll just ride my horse for a couple hours. We are surrounded by federal preserve land. There are miles and miles of trails with old plantation ruins. Very relaxing. In spite of not working, I do love my life!!!!
Another question - are you able to stay under the upload/download threshold? nm

I agree! They're looking for you to upload to a network drive,
which is totally not your responsibility to provide for them. If they don't want to install a network and dedicated drive, they can turn on their file sharing but allow ONE computer to be the master computer. All other computers would have access to the shared folder on the "main" computer. However, they would HAVE to be sure they uploaded the files again to the main drive after making changes.
As for the search feature, they've already got that built into Windows. Start Menu, Search for Documents, Advanced Search options, "A word or phrase contained in the document," type the patient's name into the box, and specify which drive to search on. Hit OK and voila!
Should be voice to voice (talking), not transcribing. nm

There is an upload hanheld icon on the tool bar of the Olympus software.
from the unit to the computer, then the file can be dragged and dropped. Good luck!
Under tools/options, you can have it upload the files once the recorder is detected. I ...
have all of my accounts set up this way. It makes it much easier and all the doc has to do is plug in the recorder. I use DocShuttle with Olympus DS-2300 recorders.
Hope this helps.
Core is software to upload and downloads. It's not a hosting site.

You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.
if you purchase bytescribe/docshuttle, you can actually upload the completed work back on there. nm

Hi,
I use it for my docs who get real wordy in history and physicals......it is accurate to a point, but you have to really proof it.

There's an ad on Mtjobs.com for editors for a voice recognition account. The company is called Focus Infomatics.
Voice recognition?
Hello, new to these boards and I have a question.
Is there a voice recognition software that will work for medical reports? I'm not sure how it would work, if it would actually translate the speech directly from the dictation you are listening to on your computer, or if you'd have to listen and speak it at the same time for the software to translate it?
I've been doing MT for about 3 years now and I'm developing hand/wrist pain, and I'm afraid my time in this profession may be running out. I really love this work and I'm hoping to find a way to make it work.

Voice recognition
Naturally Speaking v.8 works great if,
The digital voice recorder can deliver at 44.1 khz. However, these are .wma files and are HUGE!
The user takes the time to teach the software the nuances of his/her voice. This takes weeks.
The user knows how to punctuate. There are a lot of smart people that don't know where the hypen goes.
The user uses standard dictation commands ie. full stop, new paragraph ect.
If not, you end up with a blob if inaccurate info that's going to the MT for clean up.
If so, you end up with a relatively accurate doc that still should go to a MT for proofing.
IMHO, there's a lot of speech recognition software on shelves all around the world.

That too has now gone to voice recognition

Does anyone use voice recognition to help them do their job?
Voice Recognition
After hearing about it for years, I finally did my first VR work a few days ago. My fellow MTs, I think we have nothing to fear from this technology. It will take years, probably a generation, before it is perfected enough to replace us. I actually found it rather entertaining to edit - it just prints out exactly what it hears phonetically, including the instructions - "Go back up and add...."
I think they should show some Voc Rec printouts and transcribed reports of the same dictations at all Medical Staff Meetings so dictators can see just what we do in our job.
Voice recognition
...I agree with your post Desertflour, but for a different reason. Medical language specialists should keep statistical analysis of what VR types and present it to administrators to show how much they are foolishly throwing their money away! By the time the MLS edits and corrects, it is almost like retying. Where's the savings?
Voice Recognition
I've done voice recognition in the Radiology department for a hospital for two years. I wasn't there when they first started using it, but I'm told the goal was for them to have only one Transcriptionist (editor). We're fully staffed now (actually today was my last day there - I'm working at MQ now) and let me tell you, those docs are not even close to being ready to solve their own problems and self correct. There is only one doc out of 17 that self corrects, and his reports don't look good at all.
I'm not saying it'll never happen, but I think we're going to be needed for awhile.
