Because when Christians talk about God, they mean Jesus. To them, the two are inseparable. Christians refuse to accept the fact that God does not mean Jesus to everyone. If it weren't for the Supreme Court, god bless them, Christianity would be a national religion. The Christians won't stop till all prayers end with the words In Jesus Name We Pray. That is why the backlash.
