In Reply to: What do you tell people when they ask about MT as job? - FLmomMT

I tell them it's not as easy as it seems.  I tell them that when I started I was lucky, I knew someone who  gave me a chance, I didn't have much experience just working in doctors offices and as a pharmacy tech.  Luckily my mom (who is an MT and a nurse) helped me by being my "mentor".  Most of them just want to get a job and I tell them that is unheard of now unless you go to school, and to really think hard about it, it won't happen overnight.  I'm also sure to tell them that you have to be very disciplined to be able to work at home, most companies want you to work within a time frame not just whenever you want.  I also tell them that it is the best thing I have ever done, I don't love my job by anymeans but I also don't want someone else raising my kids for me and at least now being home I can do that myself.
