Congrats...how have I not been supportive? I never called you anything nasty or said anything negative...I merely stated sometimes you have to suck it up...ESLs are never going to get any easier...you just have to adapt...and the pay will get better once you prove yourself...I think you just don't like the reality of the situation...sorry for being honest...

Your error made me chuckle, which is, ya know, fitting for the error. Not a big deal, and no we ALL
make mistakes! Heavens! I remember starting out, I actually typed CABBAGE! Can you imagine? Scary thing, though, is when you get an MT out 10 years and they type cabbage. There are errors like yours, and there are major-absolutely-no-clue-of-our profession errors, which are mind boggling when you see them in print. I've been on both sides, typing and proofing, and I never dreamed of the quantity and quality of errors some MTs make - HUGE errors. That said, yes, we all make them, but its the ones who are unlearned and then arrogant when you point out the error - we have to, ya know, and its done kindly, so that they learn, and still that type of MT flips out and has a hissy! No win situation for both parties, really, as the MT really can't grow in the field if they aren't accountable to themselves even for their work. I can't give more specific examples, as I could potentially hurt some MTs who would recognize their errors, but I assure you, some are unbelievable.

This is the main message board. If you notice, not much on this page is directly related to MT. This is where we go to talk about anything else non-MT related.
One guy posted on message board, saying he was on his laptop in the car.
He said they are doomed if they do not open up the highway going the opposite direction, as you said. And, fuel is an issue, needless to say.
Mandatory evacuation should have been ordered soon, they are saying, as opposed to voluntary.

Yes, venting generalizations on a message board is about as unprofessional
as a business owner can get. I'm glad I DID NOT apply with this company! Sounds too high maintenance, high stress, negative, dictatorial and critical for me.

Whining incessantly anonymously on a message board is far from "fighting back and standing up for
your rights". Sheesh. That's how silly you all are. Blah, blah, blah on here 24/7 and I guarantee you that's the extent of your yaw. Otherwise, you'd be sharing some pertinent communications you've had with the people who MATTER - like your supervisors, managers, etc. And I don't like change? Sweetie, I go with the flow and have changed with this career every step of the way - starting back typing on a manual typewriter with 8 colored carbon copies and matching colors of "liquid paper" and listening to tapes, and now using state-of-the-art platforms with voice recognition as well. I'm happy, and still love my job. Thank you for your unstated concern! You have a problem with your work flow, dictators, you call your superiors and have it taken care of. If they don't "change" it to your liking, that's your answer - the handwriting is on the wall, so to speak! You're getting what they want to give you regarding work! Pounding your chest in words on this message board under an assumed name is nothing short of ludicrous. and over and over and over and over and over again....ya, ya, ya, cherry pickers, Indians, cherry pickers, Indians....yawn yawn. Ya take up good board space and don't realize how totally FOOLISH you look... snore.... But its your "breath", and your precious energy wasted, so go for it!! Anyone on this forum working Smarter and not Harder?
I have been in this profession 28 years now; turned 50 this December. Back in the day, I could sit down and type nonstop and be done with my work in 6 to 6.5 hours at 2000 lines. Now it is all I can do to get 1200 lines, and I am working from sun up to sun down. I work a full time employee position and part time IC position. Full time consistently running out of work, so first of year, I will be subcontracting full-time, but will also keep the part time IC position- just so I don't have all my eggs in one basket. What is the key to working less and making more?

I think the person applying for the job in that original post probably wasn't that good at timing her questions. Even so, we do have every right to ask about them, just as they do to ask about us.

Now! I work smarter - not harder. I learned through the years how to do this.
I have a pretty stress-free MT job and absolutely love it! Make good money and am enjoying life and my teenagers a bit more.

I think I worked there! LOL Except they used to fax the corrected
reports back to me, which I couldn't read because the faxed copies were illegible. I wasn't provided with any account guides or samples either. Their rules and style made no sense whatsoever and went against everything I ever learned in high school, college and my transcription career. I wound up leaving them very soon after starting. I don't know which is worse, no feedback at all or nitpicking.
It's up to you if you're going to stay and put up with it or not. Plenty of places are hiring right now.

I work for two places, one full time as IC and one part time as IC. Full time is small service with approximately 14 MTs. I get paid by the gross line at .067 cpl, typed in courier new 12. I have worked there for three years. Part time IC job is .08 cpl at 55 characters, typed in TNR 12. I consider both of these to be low paying, after reading some of the others, but they pay the bills. I guess.
