Funny, the other board Hitlered it, but they allow the one where the typist pounds his head on the keyboard and blood spurts EVERWYERE until he is dead.

Guess violence, suicide is funny to them.

Maybe response too late but I use Emedat and use Instant Text w/o a problem, as far as using Word ma
do not run into any problems with the spellcheck.  Add things as I go if they are not in there.
ruled out source recorder as well...
I have used EP for .dvf files for quite some time now and even when I open previously transcribed .dvf voice files, which played at normal speed when I transcribed them months ago using the same version of EP, they now play too fast, just like the more recently dictated .dvf files I've received. So, it does not appear to be a problem with the source recorder. Keep in mind that all other files (.dss and .wav) still play correctly. I am only experiencing the problem with .dvf files.

These are all good thoughts, but believe me, I've tried everything I can think of, and I think it's something much more involved. There is a corrupt file or codec or something possibly, but I don't now how to identify the problem at this point.

I have gone through the Express Scribe user forum and have seen several posting made over the past couple of years regarding the same type of situation, but have not found a remedy for it in those postings. No tech support available for free version, so I'm out of luck there too.

Thanks.

Yes, odd. But, have they ruled out other things such as a brain clot? When people die sm
in their sleep, it could be a number of things. Since it just happened, I would imagine they are running multiple tests right now.

If, and this is huge speculation...If he was on drugs before or then, then an MI is definitely possible and not unusual at this age.
Katherine has got to go. I also thought Elliott and Taylor ruled the night!
Chris was okay, but we all KNOW he's better than this. I'm hoping his first CD is the "Walk the Line."
kickin it in the sticks
I am so rural in Minnesota that my niece tells me I live in the middle of nowhere! Well it isn't that bad, but I am definately in the sticks. I do manage to get DSL from our local phone company via a remote box and my employer runs through a VPN. My DSL is not super fast and not super reliable but I do manage to do okay. Sure beats driving 30 miles to work one way at 4.00 a gallon for gas!
Sometimes memory sticks can go bad. You may have
a couple sticks of RAM. Check your RAM usage.
I need to lose 160 sticks of butter

keys on the keyboard sticks

The keys on the keyboard tend to stick at times, but they are intermitent.  Does anyone else have that problem?  I bought a new keyboard.  Please help.. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

The Helms Bakery Truck! It sold candy & Pixie-Sticks, too! Yumm! (n/m)
:)
I think either is acceptable.
I think either is acceptable.  It depends on the account specifics, some accounts I have worked on request that it only be single space.  I learned to double space while learning keyboarding and I think it is accepted either way.  I think it makes the report easier to read if you double space, but that's just me.
Of course, the acceptable way to do it is the

You really think it's acceptable sm

to pass up the "hard jobs" or ESLs that an MT might not be able to do and leave them for someone else who might be better equipped to handle them?

I think the MT that needs to do that has not business being in that work pool in the first place even having the opportunity to pass those reports by.  They shouldn't be employed.

Thanks! It's nice to know what is acceptable. nm

Could they mean that a wireless USB is not acceptable

is it acceptable in our guidelines, if so I will

do it too.

SH's a lot more widely acceptable than not. SM
If I were interested in browsing the want ads, I'd contact ShortHand itself to chat about what platforms don't work well with Shorthand even after their finetuning. That way choices wouldn't be unnecessarily limited and no dependence would be placed on possibly questionable info from Personnel personnel. Best wishes.
My question - why is this acceptable? SM
When did it become OK to have a doctor with a thick accent dictating so badly that we can't understand simple diagnoses, lab values, and to submit reports full of blanks?  Why is it OK that docs without thick accents are mumbling, holding the phone so close we can't understand?  Why is the staff at hospitals so afraid of the doctors that they can't ask them to please slow down, speak clearly, etc.?  I am absolutely convinced that the staff and hospitals just don't care anymore.
I know it says it once and once is all it takes. We are moving away from it but still acceptable.nm

Is no raise after 7 years acceptable?
I work as an independent contractor.  I have been with my office (had two doctors to begin with, took on a third two years ago), and I have never raised my rates.  I went in and talked to my docs about a raise today (after emailing a couple weeks ago to set up a meeting about it).  Not only did they say that's NOT happening, but the doc actually told me he expected my line count to go DOWN with the new system they are implementing.  He was upset that he had been paying me for a line count that included macros of a few paragraphs and it only took me a few key strokes to get there.  Also, they checked around and someone under-bid me for 2 cents less, so they were acting like they are doing me a favor by paying me my same line rate.  Am I crazy to be super upset about this?
Sounds like any old pair of cut offs would be acceptable....

The description reminds me of my MUCH older brother's wedding circa 1973.... She was barefoot, he was in ripped jean cut off shorts, the preacher looked like something that crawled out from under a rock, and when he asked my brother if he had anything to say, he "grunted."  Gawd, it was awful.  I'm sure this wedding you're going to won't be that bad, but if the bride is barefoot and the groom is in khakis, then any decide informal summery outfit would probably be A-ok.

Honestly, I've done both and QA is easier. If the pay is acceptable, TAKE IT! sm
I learned MORE doing QA than doing MT, and it's still easier. You have the benefit of the rest of the chart to help you fill in blanks. Trust, it's not a scary job. If I could make a decent wage at my company I'd absolutely go back to QA.
In BOS, pg 172, follow-up is still acceptable for noun/adj (see page 172 in parenthesis) nm
nm
excuse sees acceptable to me since it's a mandatory call.
Life is too short and this seems small to me. Maybe it wouldn't be if I were in your shoes, but it does to me right now, for sure.

Enjoy life, one day at a time.
Never said that typos were acceptable, what I said was is 100% accuracy expected 100% of the time.

Yes, I used to work in a docs office doing this as well as other things and but never had this problem. That is why I am frustrated.  My question was whether or not there was a curve for MT'ing or not.  I guess I just was not clear on exactly what editors/QA were really meant for.  I thought they were more of a saftey net for a TX company to ensure that everythign that goes out is what it should be.  But I guess I was mistaken.

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe there was something else similar in this field that would be an option for me to do.  Since I actually like this line of work, I don't see why I should give up so easily.

Lastly, its just me, but I actually think staying at home with my kids is a perfect reason to do this for a living.  I mean seeing as though I actually do want to earn a honest living doing something that I have experience doing ...why not?  It's better than relying the government for money to support my family isn't it?

Gotta a question... When you have an offer from a company, is it acceptable to basically..SM

give the company a set of terms.  Here's my issue.  I have 15+ years experience as an MT and I am finding after I've accepted the job, that I am placed on the crappiest account they have because of my years of wonderful "experience".  Then I'm told that they are paying me the higher cpl rate not because of years of experience but because I'm working on the crappy account that no one else can do.

I find it very difficult to earn a living this way and wonder if there are jobs out there where a seasoned MT can just sit down and type carefree 8 hours a day.  I'm not saying I don't want to ever type ESL dictation, but can I get an account where the majority is not ESL?

I'm good at what I do.  I love OP notes and don't mind challenging work, but it's simply not fair.  I feel like I'm being penalized for my years of hard work more than rewarded and I resent it.

It is good to know it is acceptable to wear slippers to the store, I have been wondering about
:}
Makes you wonder how they passed grade school grammar. No it is not acceptable.
I agree 100%.
I recently lost 20 pounds. That means I lost 80 sticks of butter.

Double Wow sm
Could you please e-mail me that recipe, I promise I won't disclose it to anyone!
Double what you'd pay an IC
probably. I'd say the MTSO I work for probably makes double what I do in order to pay me. Makes sense.
What is acceptable error rate (i.e. error ratio to line count).
Thanks.
Double applause! nm

double space

Geez, I thought I asked a simple question, but I guess not.  I could care less what Medquist or AAMT say.  I get paid hourly so I didn't ask the question because I was worried about money.  I was asking in general style terms - are newspapers, magazines, i.e., anything in print spacing this way now?  I just wanted to know if I was behind the times.

double (sm) I mean triple for me

Double standard
So we expect MDs to always have their complete attention on every word out of their mouths, which would be nice, but some of them put in 70 or more hours a week at the office/hospital, and have mountains of dictation to complete each week. But we expect them to never make a misspeak, even though on these boards we have a heart attack if one poster points out another poster's spelling or grammar error. Never mind that we are supposed to be better at English than the MDs, but we don't have to use our skills in writing posts (which is MUCH easier to do well than never making a misspeak), even if the post has to do with getting a job. That's quite a double standard, if you ask me.
thanks for that - but I need help with double spacing - sm
not with spacing between sentences. Its when a doctor dictates a paper for a journal and he wants the whole thing double spaced so that he can write between the lines or make corrections or for easier reading for him.
double ditto!
My hands feel great at the end of the day. Will never be without one of these keyboards! :-)
I use double ?? and have alt+R set to jump to them. nm

Double bind for an MT
You know, spouses tend to undervalue what we do when we are trying to do it. We put up with a lot to work at home (I know I did when I was married). He had no trouble spending the money, despite is constantly berating my efforts and undermining my contracts by calling the companies I worked for and pitching a fit about my not being paid enough, or I was working too much or he couldn't figure out why I could not take any old time off I wanted...again not respecting that this is a REAL JOB that has to be DONE ON A TIMELY BASIS. I could rant all day, but I won't, you get the idea.

Then, when we divorced he wanted to know what it is was worth. Ummm nil since you managed to lose most of my work for me? I was holding only one contract my own for about $3000 a year when they bothered to get me paid.

Just an observation because some men seem to think they can have it both ways.

I am joyfully single now, and have been single for as long as I was married. The single time has flown by in a flurry of doing my own thing, working when I want to, sleeping when I want to, eating what I like, when I like. So much nicer than doing everything on HIS terms.
Double spacing in an H&P

Where and when, if anywhere, is it acceptable to double space between anything in an H&P or any other report?  We have a double-spacing queen in our department getting paid by the line like the rest of us so I feel cheated on both line count and paydays.

Thanks and hope everyone is having a Happy Valentine Day!

I double space

My docs want double spacing between their headings in their consults/H&P and paragraphs in letters, guess you count that double spacing when you leave a blank line.  Also in chart notes, my GI's want me to double space between paragraphs even in their SOAP notes.  Up to the account.

double hmmm? What gives?

Double aargh!!
I just finished one doc who must have had something horrific for lunch ... a normally terrible-to-listen-to ESL who burped and belched his way through a 10-minute report without ever even thinking to say "excuse me".  Sure glad he does not treat me.  Very rude and disgusting.
I always double space...sm
I saw that rule in the new BOS as well.  I tried it, but the document looked too cluttered and hard to read.  I also put two spaces after a colon, regardless of what the BOS says.  It had always been proper to it that way, and it is what I was taught in typing class, clerical practice class, and when I started in MT over 17 years ago.  The BOS seems to try to make up its own grammar and punctuation rules regardless of what has been done nearly forever.
Double GRRRR
Been there, done that. It's awful isn't it? Tomorrow will be better maybe? Hope so.
