had it done. XXXX She was just at the point where they would even consider you for surgery. The only problem she has sometimes is with meat. Other than that, she is doing great more than 5 years out from her surgery. My mom was as healthy as a horse when she had the surgery, so I am sure that made a difference. I think what has happened is that too many people are just having the surgery done by physicians who have not done too many operations. Also, before my mom even was considered to be allowed to have the surgery, she had to meet with a mental health professional first for a while as they wanted to make sure that there were not underlying issues such as depression, alcoholism, etc. You really have to become disciplined after you have the surgery. My mom does go out to dinner and everything, but she either orders an appetizer to share with her friend or she'll have a salad and only eat so much of it. A large part of the problem with people getting this surgery is that their eating habits are horrendous. My mom had told me when she initially went to find out more about the surgery that they make you watch a video that shows you exactly what they do. She said it was amazing and sort of disgusting that there were others viewing the video with her that actually had brought in a big bag of McDs with them with an extra large milkshake and they were way heavier than she ever was. Hopefully that helps.
