Wow - that's great! I'd shout from the rooftops!!!

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"

Take it apart and check the wires and if - sm
everything is set together properly inside, maybe the spring moved, or a wire broke or a plastic piece broke. Check you connection too, make sure it is tight/good. Also make sure the settings on your computer did not get screwed up somehow as well. These footpedals last forever. I have 2 (1 for backup and travel) and they are both 4+ years old. My travel/backup one I use 2 x a week (work while in car while kids are at ballet class) and it gets banged around on a regular basis; still works like a champ.
It's all over the wires and a few nasty shrews down below are feeling

How do you break a kitten from chewing on and playing with your cords and wires? I just got my

daughter a kitten.  I haven't had a cat since I was a kid.  I'm kind of a dog person.  The darn thing keeps playing with all the cords and wires under my desk and jumping on my desk and walking on my C-phone and keyboard and knocking stuff off my desk.  I'm losing my mind!  He's very playful and he is very rough.  He is always attacking my feet while I'm working and not to sound like a baby, but it really hurts!  I put him in "time-out" by putting him in a separate room and shutting the door for like 10 or 15 minutes, but he just goes right back to his bad behavior.  It's definitely not like training a dog!

Help me please!  My line count is suffering on account of his silly cat and I don't think my boss is going to buy my cat as a legitmate excuse!

MT causing problems
I understand that and agree with you.  I work for a company that is not completely perfect, but then again, no company is completely perfect.  It is just sad that I you have these "disgruntled" MTs that obviously have nothing better to do than to stir up trouble or at least try to.
I can't figure out what is causing this, but since DQS
my line count has never been the same -- some of which is due to being switched from account to account, which will slow ANY/ALL MT's down, but it is MORE THAN THAT ! DQS is hungry for MQ MT's lines somehow. We will never know, as we do not configure it ourselves, but it is done by others who will not reveal any such information. I just know from MedRite to DQS has not been a good experience for me as far as lines go. The software itself is okay -- not that at all, but where my lines are going is my struggle with DQS !!!
so in other words, kill everything that is causing--sm
an epidemic. What about HIV and other diseases? Kill them too?
Yes, I know I have .tmp files that are causing problems.
That's the problem. They don't go away when they should and I'm tired of the problems that they create. Deleting them, which I have been doing all along, hasn't solved the problem so there is some other reason they are being created and taking up program space/memory, which may be why the whole thing is crashing. I also suspect it has something to do with Works (although I don't have it on my computer) because it was a huge crash problem when both Word and Works were on the same computer. Uninstalling Works seemed to work back then but we're still stuck with the winword.exe file and there may be where the problem originates. Got me. Thanks anyway.
As soon as I notice that someone is causing stress in my life

Relationships are meant to make our lives better, not miserable.

You have leftover .tmp files that are still causing problems. sm
Lots of tmp files don't flush out when you have a crash so you need to manually delete them. First, open your task manager and make sure winword.exe is not on the list. Close task on it if it is. Now close all of your open applications and do a search for the following files:

*.tmp, ~*

You can delete all of the files directly in the search window.

If you still have something running in the background like antivirus or a firewall, you won't be able to delete those temp files so don't panic if some say they are in use. Just delete all that you can.

Umm, actually you haven't been "saying" anything. You've been causing
If you don't like it here, you know what you can do, right? For one little newbie, you're sure causing a big stink, aren't you? Accept the people here for who they are, and we'll do the same back for YOU. It's a two-way street. Stop trying to cause so much trouble. You remind me of some spoiled brat having a temper tantrum when she doesn't get her way. Honestly.
sorry, don't think it's either new or damage control

Floor damage
I know a lady who sold flooring for years.  She advised me never to use rugs with rubber backing on vinyl (sp?) floors for just this reason.  We never went into how to repair the damage if it happened, though.  You might try calling someplace that sells and installs floors.
he underestimated the damage it

No one thought it would actually be this bad.  I'm shocked at what i'm seeing on the news.  When they said it was coming, I thought they were for the most part blowing smoke.  I never knew people could just be left to die like this in the U.S.  Its hard to comprehend in this day and age and country, that WE could be wiped out by a natural  distaster.

She was just trying to do damage control (for herself of course)
and you're right - she was told to leave, she didn't leave on her own volition. She just wanted to make it look that way to save face.
Internet settings and are they causing a problem with fastness?
I just checked with my carrier, having slowness and was told my download is 6.4 mbps and upload at 435.7 kbps. I have Dell with XP and yet I am out typing the words appearing on screen. At first was told by AT&T the 6.4 might cause the slowness and then after they checked said all was well. Does anyone know about this?
Wow! This REEKS of damage control!

What kind of damage that far in? I am not really worried about
the house falling in on us. The only thing that reall concerns me is the possibility of tornadoes. When Alicia came through, she was only a 3, but she had around 30 tornadoes. That is what concerns me.
No Ernesto damage or evacuation here either!

Whew!  Another close call.    Today is a beautiful, sunny (and muggy) day!

Wishing those in the Carolinas the same good fortune

What kind of water damage is what I would like to know sm..
Was it leaking from basement walls into basement or did someone leave water running and cause a flood, or was it sewer backup, or what is a natural flood?  Any kind of water damage really stinks!!  We had the unfortunate situation happen to us years ago when their was flooding all around us, but we did fine, that is, until the sewer system backed up into our basement about 4 feet high!  This was so gross, I don't think I'll ever get over it, however, we had it professionally cleaned and disinfected and threw EVERYTHING out, so hopefully that solved any health issues, so we are told.  Anyway, we invested $600 into a backup valve so that it will never happen again.  I have wanted to move ever since just because it was so gross and I can't get the image out of my head, but 4 years later, we are still here, kids and all.  So, the moral of the story I am trying to get at is this....they were supposed to be upfront and honest about the water damage problem and they were not, which leads me to believe that they have something to hide.  Therefore, you should potentially be able to get any money back because of this if you can prove that it was withheld information on the contract.  If you just love the house that much, go ahead with the inspection and find out what kind of water damage it was.  If it checks out with inspector, I would strongly suggest you have it professionally cleaned/disinfected to be safe, and expect it to maybe happen again and consider that thoroughly.  Personally, if we ever go to sell this house, I will be up front about it because even though we seemed to have fixed the problem, it is very possible it can happen again.  Hope this all makes sense.  Good luck.
trees
Well, you just helped me make up my mind--I'm planning to buy a new artificial tree on the 26th (love clearance sales!) and was debating because while I don't really care to have a prelit tree, it's getting harder to find a pretty tree without it. Looks like I'll keep shopping until I find one that's not prelit.
Yes, there seems to be a tremendous amount of damage control on her lately by MQ. What is going on
and they are just as nasty as my office has been becoming lately with everyone worrying about their jobs now that our accounts have been switched to the NE region out of the local office.
Ah, Jeez Louise, damage control again (sm)

Psychology 101, name calling will get you no where.

Of all my Christmas trees..
In the 1960s we had the aluminum tree with the color wheel! I still remember it vividly today (I was a small child). I was in an antique shop the other day and they had one set up as decoration (not for sale).  I wanted one!  I'll have to check E-Bay!
poplar trees sm
They grow tall, grow fast, die easily, one fell during a storm and broke a fence on the next street, my neighbor had to pay for a new fence, as that's the way it works, not your liability, stay away from them, they make a mess, unless you have an enemy.
Has anyone asked their eye doc about heavy computer use causing glaucoma. I read that article on
that. I plan to ask my ophth next month about that.
I live in the NE and let me tell you, there is NO shortage of trees.

How it All Got Started
Long before the advent of Christianity, plants and trees that remained green all year had a special meaning for people in the winter. Just as people today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient peoples hung evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In many countries it was believed that evergreens would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.

In the Northern hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year falls on December 21 or December 22 and is called the winter solstice. Many ancient people believed that the sun was a god and that winter came every year because the sun god had become sick and weak. They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return.

The ancient Egyptians worshipped a god called Ra, who had the head of a hawk and wore the sun as a blazing disk in his crown. At the solstice, when Ra began to recover from the illness, the Egyptians filled their homes with green palm rushes which symbolized for them the triumph of life over death.

Early Romans marked the solstice with a feast called the Saturnalia in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture. The Romans knew that the solstice meant that soon farms and orchards would be green and fruitful. To mark the occasion, they decorated their homes and temples with evergreen boughs.

In Northern Europe the mysterious Druids, the priests of the ancient Celts, also decorated their temples with evergreen boughs as a symbol of everlasting life. The fierce Vikings in Scandinavia thought that evergreens were the special plant of the sun god, Balder.

Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. Some built Christmas pyramids of wood and decorated them with evergreens and candles if wood was scarce. It is a widely held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. Walking toward his home one winter evening, composing a sermon, he was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreens. To recapture the scene for his family, he erected a tree in the main room and wired its branches with lighted candles.

Most 19th-century Americans found Christmas trees an oddity. The first record of one being on display was in the 1830s by the German settlers of Pennsylvania, although trees had been a tradition in many German homes much earlier. The Pennsylvania German settlements had community trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted by most Americans.

It is not surprising that, like many other festive Christmas customs, the tree was adopted so late in America. To the New England Puritans, Christmas was sacred. The pilgrims's second governor, William Bradford, wrote that he tried hard to stamp out "pagan mockery" of the observance, penalizing any frivolity. The influential Oliver Cromwell preached against "the heathen traditions" of Christmas carols, decorated trees, and any joyful expression that desecrated "that sacred event." In 1659, the General Court of Massachusetts enacted a law making any observance of December 25 (other than a church service) a penal offense; people were fined for hanging decorations. That stern solemnity continued until the 19th century, when the influx of German and Irish immigrants undermined the Puritan legacy.

In 1846, the popular royals, Queen Victoria and her German Prince, Albert, were sketched in the Illustrated London News standing with their children around a Christmas tree. Unlike the previous royal family, Victoria was very popular with her subjects, and what was done at court immediately became fashionable—not only in Britain, but with fashion-conscious East Coast American Society. The Christmas tree had arrived.

By the 1890s Christmas ornaments were arriving from Germany and Christmas tree popularity was on the rise around the U.S. It was noted that Europeans used small trees about four feet in height, while Americans liked their Christmas trees to reach from floor to ceiling.

The early 20th century saw Americans decorating their trees mainly with homemade ornaments, while the German-American sect continued to use apples, nuts, and marzipan cookies. Popcorn joined in after being dyed bright colors and interlaced with berries and nuts. Electricity brought about Christmas lights, making it possible for Christmas trees to glow for days on end. With this, Christmas trees began to appear in town squares across the country and having a Christmas tree in the home became an American tradition.

jobs don't fall off trees, have you noticed?
and the state labor board is like AAMT (s/b IAMT, Indian Assoc of Med. Trans.) not REALLY for the employee, if you know what I mean. Have they done anything for you?
The trees are the main concern in a hurricane (sm)
the lake didn't even get close to the house during that supposed "100-year flood" in 1993 (not allison, the other one).  We went to the other side of Houston for Rita, came back the next day.  It was a mess with limbs all over but no trees down on our property.  Next-door neighbor had 3 down.  We've decided for the next one, we will stay in the garage and hope no trees fall on the house.
i have wildblue and connection is very reliable to me with no trees, but sm
especially if you will be going through VPN, it won't be very productive for you cuz the VPN slows down the download rates. i am connected at 100 mbps but that is nothing. download rates are extremely slow, sometimes as slow as dial up.
I am am in a rural area with lots of trees - sm
so when I had Bluesky (or what ever the name it) come out they said too many trees for the satellite. My one neighbor just got Directv high speed.....she also has lots of trees. So I may be looking into that (have Directv now just not the internet hookup). But I currently use a Sierra Wireless Aircard 875U. Unlimited and costs me $67 a month. It is through AT&T but I know Verizon has it too, as well as Sprint. You need to make sure it works where you are first though, but their websites can help you there. I love it. Not as fast as DSL but a huge step up from dial-up. I have it set up to use on my desktop, laptop, my backup desktop, and my daughter's computer. The only thing I have with it is it does not work everywhere...when I try to use it on my laptop...unlike the commercial where they show the guy in the middle of Africa or wherever he is. But I have been very happy with it.

It's gonna take more than one person to change things. Until all American MTs realize the damage

things will keep going downhill.  We need to all write letters, inform people, push for legislation that will prevent American patients' protected medical data from being offshored.  We need to boycott any MTSOs that offshore and we should not accept peanuts for our skills.

That's what it will take, but with MTs like you who call us whiners for voicing our frustrations, concerns, and opinions and who sit around doing nothing, we will all lose.

Would you walk three blocks in 110 degrees at 3 p.m. in Arizona - no trees, no breeze, no wet SM

except for sweat.  It's brutal.

Now is 110 and supposed to get hotter.  Yesterday was 113 in the shade

Anyone ever plant hybrid poplar trees? They are those fast grow ones
that are supposed to grow 8 feet a year.  Some claim they send up too many "sucker" shoots from the root areas, some love em.  I need a wind break on the N. and W. sides of my lot, and was thinking of these.  Anybody ever plant these?
I have two artificial flame resistant trees in my garage. Too bad you're not closer!
DH has to have the real thing, which I don't care for.

My E key keeps falling off!
I have worked in quite a few hotel rooms also. In fact, I would not consider one job recently because they could not guarantee an internet platform but were still using phone lines for some accounts.
The Sky is Falling
Please read my post (Slave Wages). As I explained Medquist is paying 5 cpl with voice recognition. Even if one were to produce 10,000/week or 200 lines/day, that would not be enough to live off, especially for a person like me with a daughter. You can laugh it off. Remember they did the same thing to Noah. Keep lowering your prices until you are at 1 cent per job. It will be the best for everybody!!
that sky has been falling since the 80s -
and it hasn't caved yet. Not going to happen - not TOTALLY.

But a backup might be right for you.

Falling asleep...
I don't even need the alarm. I put my head back on the "cushy" part of the chair, tell myself "okay, I need 5 minutes," and I'm out like a light and will wake up 5-6 minutes later! I think the sheer boredom of what we do has a hypnotic effect on some of us and causes this. But you're right, when you wake up you're okay for awhile until the next time, whether it's 1 hour later or 4 or whatever. Glad I'm not the only one.
falling wages...
Unfortuntely, it is true, falling wages for MTs and experience plays not part in it.  But, there is a reason for it....as we all are aware, hospitals have chosen to cut their debt by outsourcing medical transcription to India for 1/4 the cost it would be to pay us here in the states.  Let's face it...MT jobs here in the states will soon be absolete, and thinking about the wages ever getting better, forget.  My advise is for all MTs to seek another source of income before it is too late....i.e. perhaps going back to school or seeking one of the higher paying jobs or at least equal to medical transcription such as Walmarts, Meijers, restaurants, etc...and eh...even get medical benefits, vacation time, etc....I currently receive none of that from my employer and was also told to take a pay decrease as of this 12/02...along with everyone else, so was paying us 10 cents per line, but little trick to that, lines are 70 characters per line with spaces included....everyone does 65 characters with spaces...now from 10 cents to 9 cents and 70 characters per line...hmmmm, I figure I am making 8 cents a line now.  Yes indeed, I am out of transcription after 25 years coming this income tax refund check.  Transcription has become a degrading job!
Falling off trampoline
They don't have to fall the trampoline to get hurt. They break bones, twist muscles, tendons, on impact with the trampoline. If they hit the coils that hold the trampoline onto the frame and the coil comes loose, they can suffer puncture wounds to the eyes or other parts of their body.

People need to teach safety measures to their kids when they are on a trampoline and never leave them unsupervised on it. It can be fatal.
I am just not worried about VR, EMR, the sky falling and on and on
If the entire medical field goes kerplunk, all you can do is pick yourself off, get another job really fast and heave ho. What else? I have had 2 jobs pulled out from underneath me and I am still here. You can make it also. No use in worrying. I lost a very profitable job to outsourcing years ago and now don’t worry about the fate of Mting.
falling asleep
Yes. I have it also, but mine is a health issue due to not sleeping post laminectomy syndrome. I have found that eating hot chips and/or eating crushed ice really helps. Above all since you are healthy, agree with the others see a doc. Hope this helps in the meantime.
Yep. I was falling asleep sitting up.
I went to the neurologist, and he put me on Provigil. Works pretty good. I'm also switching to an earlier work shift.
My snowflakes are just little falling x's today. Is it just me? nm
