I was doing great with the Janus Fund until 9/11 and the Worldcomm scandal.  That wiped out the beanster.   I chose 50% aggressive and 50% moderate risk since at the time I was only 40.  This is a well established fund I had through my real job.  Banks probably only deal with low risk funds.   Read fine print regarding penalties.  Fidelity is also a good one.  Get a Wall Street Journal.  Look on some of the fund's websites.
