I have my headphones plugged directly into
xxxx
Actually, I leave mine plugged in while working

Most of the time my laptop is plugged in. Sometimes I unplug it to play games in bed or if we are having a storm.

I wondered about purchasing a battery back up in addition, even if you can do that with a laptop that already has a battery built in, which I don't know. :) This is my first laptop and I have only had it for about two months.

I have them plugged in to my speakers.
x
Oh, they did for me! I just recently plugged my

instead of my junky speakers, and what a difference!!!  Can't believe I've gone this long thinking that it was DQS that was all the problem with the degradation in sound quality since going from using a C-phone.

I assume that better speakers would have to make a difference, because mine are super cheap.  But for now I'm just staying with my headphones through the computer speaker plug (and with a Turtle Beach Audio Device as well now).

My C-phone is plugged into my router.
You have to have a VoIP router in order for that to work. You can get one at WM or any office supply store. Good luck.
I don't think you have to configure anything. I always am plugged into tower, but can do either.
nm
I let it dry overnight and plugged it in this morning
and it made crazy noises. I took what I felt comfortable apart and used a blow dryer, but none of the buttons work. It has a dial tone and the face looks normal, but no buttons at all work.

I am in Houston too.

I am so careful with that thing, but my daughter got hurt really bad when she fell on her arm. I was trying to get her to move her arm to make sure it wasn't broken and she started kicking. She hit my glass of water and some got in it before I could catch it.
No it is just a standard pedal, I just plugged it into - sm
the USB port on the front of my computer since they were easier to get to than the ones on the back. I have never heard of any where you plug your keyboard into the footpedal.
Reboot without the headset plugged in.

Then plug the headset in. Give it some time to find the headset. If this doesn't work, try checking the Device Manager. In XP it's Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers. Click on the plus sign and see if anything is "crossed out" in that list. First try to right click and check the Properties. If it is not working proerly try the Troubleshoot button. Click on the Driver tab and update the driver. If neither of these work, go back to the Device Manager, right click on the USB port in question and Scan for Hardware changes. If none of these work , uninstall the driver. Remove the headset from the USB port and then plug it back in and see if the computer can now find it and install the driver.

If you're plugging the headset in and unplugging it without removing without the "safely remove hardware" icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen, you are disabling the USB port until the computer is restarted again. Always use the hardware removal tool!

Sounds like you have your headset plugged
into the wrong hole.  As far as the foot pedal you need to calibrate it.  Open Express Scribe and go to settings and under settings there is pedal and hot keys.  Open that and then follow the directions for calibration.  That should work and if it doesn't maybe your foot pedal isn't compatible with Express Scribe.
Does anyone have their earphones plugged into their tower instead of speakers?? (sm)
I have a coworker who does not have an earphone plug-in on her speakers but she does on her tower.  Does anyone know how to configure this to be able to hear through her earphones when plugged into the tower?  Thank you in advance.
Cable will not work if your modem has to be plugged in.
When I had cable internet, it did not work during a power outage because the cable modem had to be plugged in, so no power meant no internet. Now I have wireless broadband that does not require power and I just keep my laptop always charged up. So if we lose power, I can easily just switch over to my laptop without losing too much time.
DECONGESTANTS. Your Eustachian tubes are plugged by drainage or
by swelling, and you could get a REAL nasty earache if you can't get the swelling down and the nose/sinuses drained. Lots of HOT fluids to make the drainage thinner. Chicken soup. Tea. (Rum and coke?) just kidding, that would hurt.
so, you have dial up for internet? plugged into your phone line.
and your foot pedal has a phone line plug too? Thats odd, cuz normally it would be a USB plug. but yes, you can by an outlet to install, i had to do the same thing a long time ago on a different computer. it was called something like an eathernet adapter....you should be able to take the foot pedal to radio shack adn they will give you exactly what you need.
Because they weren't doing much
They were working too hard to take the time to talk.  It was the American workers that made me sick.  I was sort of embarrassed by the fact that they couldn't do the job without complaining about having to go to the next one.  They even brought their kids with them to work who played with my kids' stuff without even asking first.  They were ignorant and not worth the money they were paid.  It is a shame that I had to feel that way, but it is so true.
No dial tone? No foot control? What's wrong? Are all parts plugged in? Is your phone
s
I tried to work it out, they weren't willing. nm

they weren't asking for help, just complaining

You weren't trained
You weren't trained, which is why you couldn't earn a living doing MT.  A lot of people make that mistake, think they just sit down at a computer and type what they hear, then they wonder why they can't make any money. I'm sure if you had gone to school to learn MT, you would have been great at it. After all, you didn't teach yourself to become an RN, right?
Amen to that - I'm fed up with it. We weren't
even asked if we would CONSIDER going to editing, we are just switched over. I wasn't hired to edit and was hired to transcribe at a mutually agreed-upon line rate. I can type faster than I edit - I am going to lose a lot of $ at this editing stuff if I don't find something else. Not happy at all with it.
Weren't you ever taught that if you
don't have anything nice to say to someone, don't say anything at all? You must like being rude and hateful, and I don't mean just YOU personally, I mean everyone who has to criticise and be rude.
Yes, then what was "male veterinarian" if you weren't
Some people need better things to worry about.
LOL. It took a moment to realize you weren't
nm
And how do you know they weren't cussing up a blue

Then you weren't making any profits -- sm
If taxes were eating up your "profit" you weren't making any as even as an employee you pay taxes and so your takehome pay is less.  All you pay is the extra 7.5% of SSN when you are an IC or in business for self.  There are so many write offs that I have or anyone can have that I actually have more take home pay than if I were an employee.  So again, you had no profits as if you had been an employee you would have been 30% down in take home pay anyway.  With all my write offs -- which I would still have an an employee but could not deduct, I am in a much higher tax bracket than I am now.  So even with the extra 7.5% for SSN, it is well worth it to be and no I do not cheat just take all available write-offs that I am allowed.
If it weren't for us Americans, he wouldn't be the star

if i were being promised things that weren't being followed through, i'd hit the road. sm
i agree on the decreasing the bonus but maybe they didn't have as productive of a year this year or didn't clear as much in their pocketbooks as they would like, lol. i technically think all companies should give something; after all, a gift is a tax write off anyway. better to give to those busting our tails for them rather than uncle sam. i haven't gotten anything but cards in the last 3 years so i am used to it by now and don't expect it but i would definitely be grateful even for a meal gift card or anything for that matter.
Me, too, but we weren't allowed to use White-Out. We had to erase sm
all our carbons, sometimes I had 6, as we weren't allowed to use a copier. I wish we had a board of our own, don't you? Things are different with us.
If it weren't for needing a land line for DSL
My cell phone is my primary phone and I have more minutes and free long distance than I can use per month. I got basic phone services and locked it from any LD calls to save money and my land line still costs $30 a month. I feel I'm wasting that money but there isn't anything I can do. I won't drop my cell phone because I have my kids on as extra lines and they wouldn't have a phone otherwise.
weren't these shoes originally called...sm
to me, crocs would be made out of crocodiles (I do live in Florida *LOL*).....what you all describe sounds like the *jellies* my daughter wore when she was 10 or 12.
Patti, weren't you one of the MTSOs complaining
a couple of weeks back that there's really no big money in this biz anymore and it wasn't worth the time/effort put in when all is said and done? Or maybe you're having a good week this week? : )
Weren't the Indians given a reduced rate to get CMT?
p
It means they probably weren't worth your time
and that unless they were not being straight with you (perhaps you did not actually pass their test for example) that they are disorganized and careless when it comes to recruitment.

Look elsewhere - APPLY MULTIPLE PLACES because this IS unfortunately not a unique situation. I have 20 years in the business and I have often had four resumes out at once because I KNOW some of the jobs advertised are not real jobs and I will never hear back. Others will SAY you have a job and then drop the ball to get you started.

The ones who seriously want to hire you *now* will make that very clear... Basically whoever gives you work first (that meets *your* requirements of course) is the company you go with.

Make a note of those companies who don't act professionally - and consider yourself forewarned about what they might be like to work for in the future.

SOME have legitimate communication oversights - but there are a TON who are poorly managed. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out that ignoring a candidate (dropping the ball) etc., very loikely elimiates a potential person for future needs.
They weren't *fudging*. They didn't ADD hours -
The employee LOSES, and the company WINS.

Either the employee should get a OT differential for the extra hrs. worked, or else the *minimum* daily line count is TOO HIGH.

You probably would have had more people in chat if it weren't New Year's Day.

If it weren't a psych note I might wonder why it was relevant
but in a psych note I could easily see why mention of sexual orientation might be appropriate. I otherwise might wonder why doc felt need to include it in a regular medical note, where it's not normally mentioned if a person is straight.
I'm sure you're fine. If you weren't worried/
that would be different.  But you obviously do care.  I'm sure you are doing just fine.  Ask your MTSO; I'm sure she will appreciate that you are conscientious enough to ask.
Maybe the kids just weren't good in math period. No

matter where they go to school there are going to be kids that just struggle in a subject.   Not having family support could be a major issue too.  I never understood not having family support and why it mattered to a parent whether they had it or not because they are the parent.  It would be nice if the family was supportive though.  I have known people whose parents were so against it, but later saw that they were missing so much and bought into it and actually enjoyed helping them learn and explore.   It doesn't take an education to be able to educate your child, it just takes love, time, and patience.  Not all parents can provide that, but most can and do.  I have 1 year of college and my just turned 11-YO is so far ahead that we went to a local college bookstore today to get him books because he has pretty much mastered everything else.   I spend my free time reading his books trying to stay one step ahead of him and in the process getting a better education than I ever got when I was in school and I went to pubic and private schools and was also in advanced classes.

Homeschooling is not for everyone, but it is an option and those who choose to do it should be allowed to do it without being degraded for it.  There are a tremendous amount of resources available to homeschoolers, the bigger the city the more options.  Lack of socialization is one of the first issues that a non-homeschooler brings up.  Our children still play with neighborhood children, participate in community sporting activities, scouts, 4-H, etc. so there are plenty of times for socialization.  My youngest son has never met a stranger and everyone wants to be around him from ages 1 to 100.  My oldest isn't as social and most of his friends are public school kids, but when he was in public school he didn't have but 1 friend, mainly because he was so advanced and the things he would talk about where things way over the other kid's heads and they thought he was lying.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.

She needed thicker skin. You weren't rude at all. nm

I'd stay if they weren't deleting posts worse than the other ever did
I thought they deleted without cause before.. this is crazy.
I totally got your point, and I agree with it all. Your words weren't wasted. nm

Weren't you set up with a VPN or some other site to access the work? The tech people need to set

Funny! Mine is almost as large, and I don't mind cleaning mine!
It's no problem at all.  Besides, I'll take lots of oodles of square footage any day of the week over living in a sardine can!
Gross lines and 12 hour days!!! I stand corrected, you weren't stretching the truth, you were...

misleading everyone.  The majority of MTSOs pay by a 65 character lines.  Paying for spaces or not paying for spaces is usually the only variant between companies.  You come on here and say that you tyhpe 3000 a line a day and leave it at that.  Don't say how many hours your work, how long your lines are, etc.  That is misleading!

I probably am typing 3000 gross lines a day in my eight hour day if I were coutning gross lines.  For fun, I think on my next work day, I'm going to jot down my gross line count in each document and add it up at the end of the day and compare it to my actual line count.  I'll let everyone know what the difference is.

Geez!  Really burns me up when people get on here at start spouting out nonsense as if it were fact and we should all be in awe of their skills and expertise!  For future reference, the truth lies in the details.  You can't just say you do 3000 lines a day and leave it at that.  Notice when I posted below how many lines a day I do, I added that I work a strictly 8 hour day and that my lines are 65 characters with spaces.

Give accurate and detailed information people, PLEASE!

I have a two way adapter that is plugged into the phone line. One goes from the adapter into the
router provided by the DSL company and the other goes from the adapter directly into the phone that I have connected.  The phone needs to be connected so I can re-record (which still works for me thankfully).  I was wondering if I unplug the phone line and plug that into the back of my computer if that would work but then I would have to have work call before faxing and change the hookup after which would be a royal pain.  If you can give me another way to hook this up it would make my life so much easier.  Thanks.
Hubba hubba's right! Lucky Lady, and you weren't kidding either. ... sm

... he DOES have eyes that seem to penetrate right through you, for lack of a better description.  (CHOKE!)

Do you ever sit there with your headphones on
listening to a CD, maybe typing correspondence or message board posts, and just pretend to be working just so you can get a moment of peace and quiet without any interruptions?  I do.  I got some new CDs and am "finishing up my work right now."
headphones
www.transcriptiongear.com has them for 69.00 AND you can get an adapter so you can use them with the dictation system boxes.  As you probably know, you can't use stereo ones because you only get sound in one ear.  The adapter you can buy gives you sound in both ears.
Headphones
Check out Bose....they have some amazing headphones. They are sound deadening. I am not sure what they cost, though.
HEADPHONES
Hi, I use SONY MDR-CD380, about $45 to $50.  tried other SONYmodels and other brands, but found these the best.  provide them to all transcribers working for me.
