In Reply to: Anything an MT can do when you have grave concerns about patient care? - Concerned MT
I know exactly what you are going through. When I was an MT, I did a patient who had the same condition as my son. She was in her 20s and they were giving up on her, sending her to die with hospice. There was a brand new treatment available that my son had that not many people knew about. I asked my supervisor about letting the doctor know about this treatment (this was in 2002 and my son is still alive) and they told me no, it wasn't my job to save people.
We all see this treatment all the time and I don't know about you, but I tell everybody I know to get another opinion (I had 7 before my surgery, which nearly killed me) and if you feel anything at all isn't right, get another doctor. People don't realize they hire them just like they hire a plumber and there's some really dangerous care going on out there. I always tell people too if a loved one goes to the hospital, make sure somebody stays with them and questions what medicines they are given, the reactions, etc. My daughter has a very bad blood condition, actually 4 of them, that cause blood clots and when she went for a surgery consult, the doctor offered her the exact same hormone that caused the clots before! He had no idea what medicines cause what, only what is given for what. We all have to take care of ourselves and our loved ones and not rely on anybody else to get it right.
