Yes, it is heartbreaking and hard to deal with - sm
We were "lucky" if you can call it that, when Jen (my now 6-y/o) was diagnosed 3-26-05 with nephroblastoma (Wilm's Tumor), we were in total shock. She only had to have 2 surgeries (one to remove the right kidney (tumor engulfed it) and place a Port-A-Cath, and the 2nd to remove the Port after a year). Then 5 months of chemo (14 treatments total). Our insurance covered all but maybe $300, out of about $80K to date. With any luck they will have as good insurance as we did, if not I am sure the hospital has an organization (at least I hope it does) that helps families of cancer patients. Our hospital, MCV (Medical College of Virginia) has a wonderful organization called ASK. They plan events all the time for the families to attend (trips to the zoo, King's Dominion, Christmas party, fundraisers, etc.) for free, and so they can have some fun and interact with the families they see at the oncology clinic. Make-A-Wish has also been good to us, and we have given back by volunteering at some fundraisers where they want people to meet wish recipients (Jenny got a trip to Disney in December). If you do contact them, ask if they have utilized their hospitals resources, if social work has talked to them (they are the one's who give your name to MAW for a wish), at MCV everyone treated in the Pediatric Oncology Clinic is eligible for a wish, regardless of financial status. They have a long haul ahead of them and I am sure have learned a lot about that particular type of cancer, odds, % of recurrence, etc. I hope they have the financial resources to pay the difference (we had some land we could have sold for about $40K if we had to, or borrowed from my in-laws if necessary) or enough people donate to them, but there a lot of others out there in the same boat. One kid's parents at the clinic did do at least one fundraiser to get $ for his treatment, he has neuroblastoma too. But I see kids at the clinic a lot worse off than my daughter and it is heartbreaking and I know I am "fortunate" that my daughter should make a full recovery (92-98%) to the 5 year mark, and I feel bad for those who don't have such good odds going for them, so my husband and I promote VA MAW and the ASK organization and donate to them as well in order to help others at the clinic, as this is all $ that goes to local families here in the Richmond area. I hope all goes well for them though and they will need to be strong and stick together for their daughter, believe me cancer in a child can take a toll on the marriage--depending on how each person deals with it. Things got bad for a while here, my DH retreated, I had to deal with it all basically on my own. I still cannot tell him things as he cannot deal with any bad news, so I could only talk to a couple friend which I did not do because I wanted to talk to no one, so I talked to no one basically, except myself. I hope these people can talk to each other and support each other and there daughter as she probably is very scared and does not understand the seriousness of what is going on. Children adapt very quickly but still need to have some idea what is going on and that is difficult at 3 years of age. I hope she comes though okay and will continue to hope for the best for them.
I love that, thank you. See message.
It's easy to get caught up in the "kids should have a mom and a dad at home" scenario. I think sometimes that's just a fairytale. I have to admit, I made a bad choice with my husband. I was depressed and was looking for Prince Charming to fix everything. I'm so much better off now, but I'm just having a tough time with the adjustment. My middle child (his eldest)is having trouble also. We'll be alright. I just know it. I have GOD on my side. I wanted to again especially thank my sisters in transcription who posted such glorious messages. I smiled and cried all day as they came in! What a treat! Have a great weekend!
I absolutely love mine...see message
I have health issues and this bed has been wonderful for me. My husband up until we got our sleep number bed was always up by 4-5 in the morning because of pain. He hasn't had any pain since. It was well worth the money for us.

And here's where OSi sends low pay:
"Whether we think offshore labor is right or wrong, it has become a fact we cannot escape from. OSi will not actively pursue offshore labor contracts, but we have made the decision to experiment with using some offshore labor to save this large OSi client from going elsewhere. We believe this is the best decision for our employees assigned to this account and the company because this account is growing and we can assign the offshore part to the future increases and not have to reassign any OSi MTs. OSi is committed to continue using US MTs for the majority of their work and we will continue to resist going offshore."

The company I contract with always sends something....
MT week they usually give some thing cute with their logo, pens, note pads, mug, travel mug, a mouse pad, etc. Christmas most usually is a snack food in a tin, always yummy, cute and appreciated. :-)
One sends me work via Mydocsonline another - sm
just emails the sound files to me. Have access to FTP but they prefer to email it.
Any company that sends you a Form 1099 has also
reported that income to the IRS, so it will have to be claimed by you.  BUT, they only HAVE to issue a 1099 if they paid you more than $600.  However, the first company you worked for might issue a 1099 anyway because they would want to deduct that 'labor' as an expense on their side.  If you don't receive one from them by the end of the first week of Feb, I would call or email to find out if they are going to send one.  Also, since this is your first experience as an IC, I would consult an accountant.  There are so many more 'business' deductions that you can take to help eliminate some of that income.  I am self-employed and my husband is self-employed and I am "in love" with my accountant.  He works wonders!
Often it is the clerk who types up and sends emails. nm

Our church sends care packages....sm
Some of the things we send are:

Pretzels, chips like Pringles in a hard can, peppermint or hard candy, beef jerky, cheese crackers (the kind with cheese or peanut butter in them), the canisters of Oreos, Cheezits, etc.

If they have kitchen facilities or a microwave available to them: microwave popcorn, Ramen noodles in a cup, Cup of soup.

We also send word-search puzzle books, crossword puzzles, and perhaps some magazines that they might be interested in.

Hope this helps. :)
My hospital sends their work to a company
The reason this person is sticking up for the offshoring of American work is that she is one of the people taking our work away.
No, corporate greed is what sends work overseas.
The only reason offshoring is alive is because our fellow Americans are too cheap to pay a living wage. They want their companies to show a greater profit and stock to go up.

I am an excellent MT. However, I can't make squat for money in this field because every single company I get on with sticks me with their lousiest accounts. I've learned seven new accounts in the past month between a small MTSO and a national. That's how it works. You do your best, QA scores reflect it, and they give you their garbage that nobody else will do.

To Administrators: LawScribe, one of your advertises sends all work Overseas! sm

Thought you'd want to know.  I contacted them and was told they do not hire anyone local in the USA, and only hire overseas.  How interesting?  Since you don't support overseas coming and taking our jobs, I thought you'd be interested in knowing this, or maybe you already know?

Have a great day!

InterPro often sends IMs to staff to NOT send feedback if they are "too busy" or there is too

I currently type for a doctor who dictates with a digital handheld and sends the files via e-mail fo
and wanted to be able to call me with his dictations.  What would be the best and cheapest way for me to go so that he can do his dictations without the handheld unit??  I don't want to invest in a lot because he does not forget very often.  This is the first time in three months.  Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!
HEY YUCK - YOU ARE AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT GETS! LOVE YA MAN!
that is beautiful, thank you....
I am going to email this to my best friend who lost her mother a few years ago. This time of year is always hard for her, as is her mother's birthday. Thank you!!
Beautiful here!
Not to brag - but it is mid 80's, blue skies with little puffy clouds and a nice breeze. Of course, we are in the Pacific NW. Love it here - this is why we left the valley!
Beautiful!

Beautiful MT/ad
Well, I clicked on the link and could not get this ad up - so I missed out on the "beautiful MT".  My question here is - are there any really beautiful MTs out there any longer - or are we all overworked, paid too little for our services, expected to do a lot of work that is not connected to the production that we are paid for - and receive little or no benefits or job security.  I can tell you after 15 years, I do not feel very beautiful.  Would like to hear from those who are "beautiful" and if the procedure to get that way was very painful, as I am contemplating some work.
Thanks so much for this beautiful
prayer.  It's exactly what I needed to begin this new day and new year.  God bless us one and all.
Venting-why do people keep putting nm and THEN writing a message?? nm means no message - sm
Please put sm if you have a message and NM if there is no message other than your subject line.  It makes it easier when reading these messages.  thanks so much and have a nice day everyone.
If you say I am rich and beautiful...will I be?

Can hardly see through the tears here...that was beyond beautiful!!!

Bless you and your wonderful family.  What else can I say but...

Peace...out.

Beautiful out today...
Hey RadGuy, hopefully you are out somewhere enjoying the beautiful day here in Lexington.  I just got home from going out with me, myself, and I to Johnny Carino's (Hamburg Place) for a wonderful lunch.  Then I went to Value City Furniture and spent an hour looking around.  I started to go to Office Depot, but I have this thing about computer desks and decided I had better just come on home !!
and it is a beautiful state, but...sm
You ask about attitudes.  This is my opinion.  I lived there for 4 years in the 1970s, got married in Denver in '79.  I found the people somewhat racist against many types of people...maybe that has changed today.  I lived in Georgetown, Dumont, and Denver (Glendale and Capital Hill), worked from Loveland Pass way out west in the Rockies to the Bull 'N Bush in Glendale (very east of Denver) when the Broncos went to the Super Bowl, crossing all walks of life.  I would hope, today, it has changed for the better.  Your Father's Moustache Band was around then and still around today.
Same here, beautiful here in VA 60-70 last 3 days - sm
today we are supposed to get rain and snow, yuk, and back to the cold weather to boot!
Your kitty is beautiful!!! (nm)

Outside weddings can be beautiful...
Don't underestimate this. I had a friend who had a casual wedding (she was not barefoot) but the guys wore blue shirts with khaki pants in a park-like setting with the creek traveling by it. Cut-offs would have been extremely out of place there. Slacks and a casual top would have been okay but I think the best choice is a dress (not exceedingly dressy) and sandles. My experience - one of the prettiest weddings I have ever been to.
Sounds Beautiful
Patti that sounds just wonderful. I'd love to live somewhere like that. I sounds so peaceful and relaxing.
Yes...trust her. It's beautiful! NM

maybe...(beautiful thoughts) SM
Maybe... we are supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

Maybe... when the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the new one which opened for us.

Maybe... It is true that we don't know what we have until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we have been missing until it arrives.

Maybe... The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything they have.

Maybe... You should dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you dream of and want to do.

Maybe... There are moments in life when you miss someone – a parent, a spouse, a friend, a child – so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real.

Maybe... The best kind of friend is one you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word...but when they walk away you feel as if it was the best conversation you've ever had.
< br> Maybe... You should always try to put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that something could hurt you, it probably will hurt the other person, too.

Maybe... You should do something nice for someone every single day, even if it is simply to leave them alone.

Maybe… Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart; but, if it doesn't, be content that it grew in yours.

Maybe.. You shouldn't go for looks; they can deceive; Don't go for wealth; even that fades. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.

Wow..beautiful messages...THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I really appreciate you all taking the time to give me some insight.  I'm going to hang in there.  The one poster was right--I do have PTSD from my old job who stressed me continously about firing me!  Sigh..that was a horrible experience and I'm still burned from that.  I had never gone through anything like that before.  Every job I've ever had, I excelled with it. Well again, THANK YOU!

a beautiful man! plain and simple.
and a great actor.
Denver beautiful town
Granola tree huggers??  Sounds good to me..better than cholesterol artery clogged tree destroyers.  My cousin lives in Westminster, another in Estes Park.
If you are so extremely thin and beautiful,
then why are you on this site. Are you a transcriptionist. If you are as beautiful and thin as you say you are, I doubt very seriously that you'd be typing for a living.
Thank you MT stars for the beautiful print. I am going to have it

framed and hang it in my living room.  I think you are doing a great thing with the Santa's House project, too.

Its a darn shame, Travolta was a beautiful man.
After the age of 40?  Men are supposed to have less fat cells anyways, so he is basically just sitting around eating doughnuts to death.  With all that money, get a personal trainer and a nutritionist!
Wait a minute...I thought my son was the most beautiful

Do you think it is beautiful to have rolls of blubber hanging out your

shirt, over your ankles, and walking like you have two 40 inch diameter poles poking out at a wierd oblique angle from your fat butt that you try to walk on?  Most fat people are really nasty as well as ugly.

It it any meaner to walk up to a skinny person and tell them how skinny they are than to walk up to a lard bard and tell them they are fat??

It's not the name that matters. It is who you associate with a name that makes it beautiful
