not surprised guess I should really go read the story but if no details
of this person first I wonder if she really exists and if so and if they
can't brag on her situation, why can't they?
it should have been gwendolyn gopp from Op, Alabama who has worked for MQ
for 5 years or something like that. show a picture, show us her co-workers, show
us.

Thanks Lori....that's what I was looking for. nm

Thanks, I needed that Lori! LOL (nm)

Agree 100%, Lori...
Except for the boredom factor, Radiology is the moneymaker IF the MT is paid by the line and not per report. I agree with you 100% about the line counts, as well. It also takes me 8 hours to crank out the same amount of lines for acute care or clinic reports that I can produce in 4 hours of radiology.
I've heard horror stories (and read them on this forum) about being paid per report for radiology, where the MT had a shift full of lengthy MRIs, CTs, nuclear medicine, etc., studies and ended up working for essentially minimum wage for the shift. I can't even imagine knocking out a 3- to 4-page report and getting $1.15 for my efforts.
I think you're right about your former co-worker. Unless she had the same group of dictators with tons of canned/normal reports that she could just whip right through, I don't see how anyone these days could make more money doing acute care as they could with radiology.
Good luck, OP, and let us know what you decide. If you decide to shift over to acute care transcription, I'm curious to see how you feel about acute care versus radiology.
Lori, This is just my humble opinion... sm
but if this was me (and I agree it isn't) I would not rule out getting to know the retired people in your community. It may be through them that you meet other people your own age. For me, I have met friends that were originally friends of friends. I agree it may be hard to find something in common with someone who is not your own age, but if the retired people there are like my next door neighbors, I just listen and they do all the talking. It's a pretty easy conversation and sometimes pretty interesting.
OK, take this little piece of opinion for what it is worth. If it doesn't work for you, that is okay.
Lori, This is just my humble opinion...
MTHubie,
I do actually have 3 retired friends, but they are pretty busy with their families and being grandmas - so we do get times to chat now and then, but just not on the level I am needing I guess. I also visit with my landlord as well, as she lives across the lane from me, but she is hardly ever home. I probably sound pretty backwards and I honestly have never had problems making friends - but I am not backwards and I have many interests - just not living in a location that is plentiful with organizations or functions that I can embrace and therefore meet people. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas and I thank you for your input!!

Lori, I'm in the same exact boat.
I get awesome lines in Medrite but struggle to make lines on the Apex platform. I asked about this, and they said management is aware and looking into it, but I'm wondering how long. I honestly feel for you. I'm considering looking for work elsewhere. It's a struggle just to make the minimum lines on that platform.
Daughters' friends call me Miss Lori.

Where are you at on the Big Island?
We origially were thinking of moving to the Hilo area, but since my fiance started searching for jobs (he's in construction), he has noticed most of the jobs are in Kailua-Kona. We originally wanted to stay away from the tourist spots (lived in Waikiki before and hated it) and heard Hilo was a more family friendly place. So at the moment we are kind of torn where we want to move. We are going to just live in sublets or temporary housing until we figure out where we want to end up permanently depending on where he gets a job and also where we can still get high-speed internet for mine. Care to share what area you are living in and how you like it?
Well I own my own island right next to Mr. Dicaprio's and as soon as
I have my little jaunt there (with my champagne and caviar), I will be sure to swing by Hawaii and say hello and tootles!! ROFL
Treasure Island
My husband and I were married in Las Vegas last October. We stayed at Treasure Island in a honeymoon suite for around 140.00 per night. This price was Sunday thru Wednesday and then the price is higher for Thursday through Saturday. It was a really, really nice hotel. Our suite had a hot tub and his and her bathrooms. Treasure Island also has some nice restaurants to eat at as well. We were married at Viva Las Vegas, which is right on the strip. Everyone there was very nice and we had a wonderful time. We went out by ourselves so it is nice that Viva Las Vegas has a live web cam so friends and family back home can see you getting married. Getting married at a wedding chapel that is not connected with a hotel is a lot cheaper. I think our wedding package was around 400.00 and that included everything including our proofs. We had a limo that picked us up from our hotel, took us to get married and then brought us back. This was a wonderful experience that neither of us will ever forget. I would also suggest eating at Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse as well as Hard Rock Cafe. Any other info you would like I would be happy to share. Conratulations and good luck!!!
I was just in Aruba -very nice island
Aruba is just like any other tourist destination where as long as you stay in the tourist areas, do not wonder off into the downtown areas at night and practice basic street-smarts, then there is no need for alarm and it is just as safe as any other place. I went to Aruba last month and we had a nice stay but I also went there years ago when I was about 16 w/my friend and her family. Of course we drank our little hearts out but we stayed in the hotel area and never wandered off. I will admit that we were harrassed by locals a bit (and I think it was because we were so young) but we ignored them and ALWAYS stayed together- we used our street smarts!!
It sounds as tho this young girl did not have as much street smarts as you or I. I would never leave with guys I just met by myself even if I were at a bar in my hometown area, nevermind in another country! It is common sense but unfortunately this young girl didn't know any better, or for whatever reason maybe she thought that she was safe with these boys and she probably thought they were just regular kids just like her & her friends. It is very sad that she possibly had to pay the ultimate price for what she thought was just an innocent mistake.
We as parents try to protect our children from so much, but at the same time, I think sometimes we are so focused on keeping the evil of the world out, that we possibly make our children more vulnerable.
Mine too!! Would love to be on that little island

Paradise Island Bahamas
It is beautiful there and lots to do
You know, I felt exactly like I had been "thrown off the island"
I never watch "Survivor" or any other reality TV show but I have heard enough about it to know how it works. It saddens me that our young people are growing up with that kind of example - plotting behind other people's backs, ganging up on one member of the "team", always being out for number one.
Maybe "Leave It To Beaver" and "The Andy Griffith Show" were unrealistic, but at least they had good role models and discussed issues such as being kind to others, being truthful, and being a good person.
I know there are good people in the world - I just wish there were more of them.
sounds good to me right about now. when's the next boat to the island?
i'm ready.

St. Simons versus Jekyl Island
Jekyl Island is 7-8 miles south US 17 of St. Simons. They offer beautiful beaches, hotels, bike trails, golf, camping, and fishing. It is a more secluded vacation place. As you already know St. Simons has great restaurants, boutique shopping, etc. Just depends on what you are looking for in a vacation spot. I live in Brunswick. Hope this helps.
Majority of these came thru Ellis Island. Didnt

Respectfully disagree island girl
I was merely trying to point out that if one comes to rally the troops on such a topic, they need to know what they talking about. Quite honestly, this is a huge part of the reason MT is where it is today. We have our own US MTs who know nothing beyond typing their report and tallying their line count. Kudos to you for looking beyond and health care management. Unfortunatley, you may find yourself on the other side of the ball though, so be prepared. As part of the healthcare management team, you'll be expected to tow the line as far as cost cutting and hospitals are doing it every day. It's not the MT companies choosing to offshore, but rather the larger hospitals are demanding it to cut costs. Look around - hospitals are shutting their doors because they're out of money.

Okay I'm Really Bored. If you could only have one food and one person on desert island, what and
who would it be? No fair family members. We want a famous person and one food item to picnic forever on this island.
Love at first sight on the Long Island RailRoad
On the Long Island Railroad, traveling to Greenwich Village for the day and he traveling to a concert in Queens, NY. The instant I looked at his face and he talked to me and sat across from me on the train, I knew we would make history together, I knew something was gonna happen between us. He got off the train, I continued on to Greenwich Village, NYC..didnt get his number, nor he mine. Four months later I was driving into my apartment parking lot and he was driving behind me, said he recognized me from my sunglasses as I looked in the rear view mirror. He asked for my phone number and the rest is history..It was truly love at first sight..

I know someone who lives (sm)
in the same neighborhood in Atlanta that Bobby and Whitney live in...they said that Whitney tried to take out a restraining order on a little girl for trying to sell her some Girl Scout cookies! It's really sad to see how far down she has gone! She used to be so beautiful and talented, now she's just a train wreck! I guess that's one reason to be glad I'm poor! Can't afford to screw myself up THAT bad! Good day, all!
Obviously these 2 have no lives

My dh lives for this show!!...sm
Coffee thing was very cool. Had cylinder type holder for separate filters. He explained it like a gun cylinder that holds individual bullets. Anyway, he put filters in each separate cylinder and could make individual cups of coffee, soup, tea, etc. by rotating to the right cylinder and adding water.
Yes, DH's family lives there. I would think this would be ... SM
a very good area to move to. It is very rapidly growing, however, so if you are not into crowds, you might think about that. They actually live in Oakwood which is just outside of Gainsville. Hall County is supposed to have a very good school system. Lots of shopping in the area, and I think they're building subdivisions like crazy. It's also close enough to the north Georgia mountains that weekend getaways would be easy - or you could drive into Atlanta for special attractions. They have recently built the Gwinnett Arena near there that has a lot of concerts, sporting events, etc., so a drive into Atlanta is not always necessary for this kind of thing. All in all, a very nice area.
E-Bay and Days of Our Lives.

Yes, Days of our Lives for sure! I really
don't watch much TV, but this has been something I have followed my entire life (we both just turned 40, LOL). My granny used to watch (her "stories" she called them) and I was granny's little girl :-)
I am SOOOOOO happy to see Patch and Kayla back on the show! Now if they would just get this Bo and Hope thing straightened out. Oh wouldn't it be nice to have Kate, Billie and Chelsea miraculously disappear from Salem!?!?!?!?! Hey, a girl can wish can't she. LOL!!!!
Just how many lives do YOUR patients have?
Apparently mine have more than one because I have one dictator who likes to use the following phrase: Patient was told that he might have death and loss of current life.
Oh please! Now its all about the $$ again. He lives in France for several reasons,
the obvious of which is his wife wants to stay in her homeland, and, secondly, he has said that the Parisians treat him like a regular guy - we all know that celebs living in the USA are stalked and their lives are chaotic trying to avoid stalkers, paparazzi, etc. He feels his children are safe there, and they are his #1 priority. Even a lesser known actor like Gary Oldman, who has NEVER stated anything politically incorrect, had to leave the LA area in the USA because some nut case "fan" keeps threatening to kill his 2 little boys. While Gary Oldman has been quoted as saying he LOVES living in the USA compared to Britain, he's had to return to Europe because the climate for celebreties is not as crazy as it is in the USA. Its INSANE. They do live some of the year in the USA by his family, but he has chosen not to disclose the location or times of year. He is like one of the BIGGEST stars in the world right now - and still nuts hate him. Hmm....I saw BOTH interviews, and read the original "USA hatred" article, and he never said that. While eccentric, the man is brilliant - do you think he'd be stupid enough to say he hated the USA? He NEVER said it, but its just the perfect example of how media manipulates things, and how some of us are naieve enough to believe it. Boycott him all you want - its your loss, not his!
re: a canadian MT who lives next to MAINE
I have a MT company from portland, Maine who w ants me to work for them as an IC. They offered me 7 cents per line american. WHat a freakin joke!!
I wont work for under 12 cents per line and I have been out of it for awhile (6 years!!).
See ya!!
Anyone here a Days Of Our Lives watcher?
I am soooooo frustrated at the Bo and Hope situation. Anyone care to express their opinion!
How many MTs feel like they have control of their lives?
If you have a family and a million things to do everyday on top of your job, how do YOU keep it all together? What works for you or what has worked for you in years past?
My best girlfriend from childhood lives sm
in Colorado Springs and absolutely loves it! She is a school principal out there. She has several friends working at home as MTs and are doing well. I know nothing about where or what though. I live in NC and she and I are both originally from Michigan.
hit your neighbor where he lives - in the wallet - sm
check out your homeowners insurance about filing a claim (especially if you have medical expenses or can't work because of the attack) - they can find out who your neighbor's insurance is and believe me his rates will go through the roof! Our dog got attacked too (their dog was just being "friendly") with vet bills, etc. We have a leash law so I filed a complaint with Animal Control and they got a fine...if it happens again the file escalates. Good luck!

We all like different things in our lives, we small talk them here
