I just wanted to say that you need to give yourself time. It takes time to learn new things. I know it took me awhile to learn and I am still learning even after being a Transcriptionist for over 20 years.
What I do if I have a difficult dictator is ask for samples and then I create a folder on my desktop so that I can use that as a reference. I find that helps me a lot. Also, what I do is create a shortcut in my word Expander if I have a certain medication or phrase that a doctor dictates repeatedly.
It also helps to have a Stedman's dictionary for reference. I also have a ShortHand Word Expander program which really helps.
Do you have a mentor that you could go to if you have questions? I find it helpful to ask questions on one of the MT boards. I find that usually I am able to find answers that way. Occasionally I am also able to get answer questions too.
It takes time but with practice and some OTJ training you will do fine. You need to give yourself another chance and even if you decide not to work as an MT at aleast you can say you gave it your best shot.
