k, that is your opinion, i stated mine. poor quality in my opinion shows bad work ethics if they do
;
quality as in ethics/morals/education/parenting/will to do one's best and set examples for others
qualities as to working hard to make your life better and not settling for second best so you can drink your six-pack and rent videos while your kids run wild. you know what i'm talking about. quality as to have no grasp of consequences of one's behavior.
Work ethics ??
I have been subcontracting through a mom/pop company for about three years. They have a few different accounts, but I mostly do the same doctor every day, along with a few people in his clinic. The transcription company owner has had some health problems, so I stepped up and am now doing my share of the transcription, editing, sending the work in, and the billing. (I am being paid (not much) for my extra work). Anyway, the one clinic that I have been typing for about three years called me. They are not happy with the contract holder and said that something needs to change. She has become very unorganized and rude with this clinic. I work my butt off to try to keep them happy on my end, but she shows no interest in trying to be nice or anything and she says she doesn't care if they drop her, it would make her life a lot easier. The final straw before the telephone call was that she returned tapes from other clinics to this clinic and they freaked out about patient privacy (totally understandable).
Anyway, the clinic called me and asked if I would be interested in working in-house (I'm not) or trying to figure something out as they no longer want to work through this company, but they are very happy with my transcription. I told them that I was very sorry for the tape confusion and I that I felt that I was being misrepresented by the people who were picking up and dropping off the tapes.
It is very hard to explain the whole situation, but the lady who I contract through has said, just in passing and I don't know if she was serious, "If they drop my account with them, you can have them." I just don't know how bad it would be if I stopped subcontracting through her and just went straight to the clinic.
I would love some opinions on this. Sorry it was so long. I am very stressed out about this. If she loses the contract and I stay with her, I will lose a lot of lines...thousands. I just don't know what to do. Thanks.
Yes, but can you transcribe? Do you have good work ethics?
Yes, but can you transcribe an easy 2 minute dictation in under an hour? Do you have good work ethics? Which, begs the question, do you know the definition of ethics? Can you stick to days and hours you agreed to? Can you not make up excuses for not working? Can you stay in your chair and not a leave a job hanging for hours on end? Are you in this century regarding technology? Which, also begs the question, can you download, install, configure, and operate the newer programs that MTSOs are using?
If you answered no to any of these questions, you're in the wrong industry and from what this MTSO has been getting lately, there are a lot of you out there who have absolutely no business trying to work in this industry.
work ethics should work both ways
Sorry that happened to you. Sure, legally they can do whatever the heck they want, but they destroyed their business relationship with you. Shame MT is a buyers market and they felt they could dump your service just like that (and without even telling you they were dropping you - who the heck are you - Milton? (from Office Space - you know, they just stopped paying him in hopes he would just stop coming to work))
well oldtime, I'll bet that you have good work ethics. But, people like you are far and few in
6 to 8 MTs only a couple actually work out. That is an absolute shame, but it's the truth. How do I know this? Because I surveyed several services asking the very same question to each and this is what the averages were. Of course, someone here will whine about how many services I surveyed, were they friend, etc., but I can say with absolute certainty that I was completely fair in my end figures.
no work late...she raved about the quality of my work.....sm
I have emails raving about how good my work was. The trouble came when I started asking questions about pay and complaining that she was sending me work when was convenient for her and not when I needed it. She would stay up all night and then sleep a good part of the day. I told her before I started that I wanted to work early mornings. She said that was no problem whatsoever, BUT then I would see no work until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. She would promise me work and send it to me and it would be the wrong voice files, so I had to delete and start over. She was SO disorganized. She said that she has 50 happy transcriptionists and complained that I wanted some samples. I did not know how she wanted things formatted. It was just a mess. The day she "fired" me (I have never been fired before in my life), I had basically told her that morning if things didn't change I wasn't typing another character.
Of course she had 50 happy transcriptionists. Her work was being subcontracted by a lady in Atlanta. She didn't have contact with these transcriptionists. There was a middle man. I told her I could guarantee the lady in Atlanta provided her transcriptionists with some sort of guidance or samples. The hospital system had some sort of weird thing in place where some places needed soft returns and some hard returns and she told me you couldn't mess with that but I was unclear on exactly what went where.
I don't think I will ever work for a small company again.
Anyway, I have drafted a demand letter which I intend to send Monday. Someone below asked for the name of the company, and I would rather not say until this all pans out. I will definitely post the name of the company eventually. I just don't want her to know what my plans are at the present time. I don't know if taking her to court will do any good, but it is worth it to make her miserable. It is a 2 hour drive for me, but I called and I can file via the U.S. mail. So it is only one trip.
I think that grandparents who babysit for free are just making their kids dependent on them
Maybe stop babying her and she'll respect you more.
I doubt this generation of kids will grow up to watch their grandchildren - they're way too selfish.
Just a suggestion.
Post resume and see if you can get IC work to
xx
Are you a bad MT with lousy quality work?
My calls are answered immediately, i've been on the same account for years, i'm praised for my work, receive emails thanking me. Maybe its YOU and not THEM?
Well, yes, but then the quality of the offshore work (sm)
would be worse than it is now, with not enough people to edit it, it would get way behind TAT, and eventually it will come back to us.
It's definitely a work quality issue.
I'm having a tough time myself. I had the ultimate in great MT jobs up until just recently. Seriously, my Expander stats were running about 70% per day. Now I'm doing maybe 20% on my expander stats because I have a new job where the dictators just ramble on endlessly and backtrack often. It's about $11 an hour and the schedule doesn't work for me either. After I pay taxes and equipment costs, I might as well be working at Burger King or Walmart. I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't make it on this low income. Maybe those sweet accounts only happen once in a lifetime, and my sweet account is gone to VR.
I was better on hourly. Quality of work was better
Poor quality is just that. It has nothing to do with work ethic.
Goodness.
I would think that our QA scores honestly reflect the quality of our work
and are not infuenced in any way by how we interpret the status you may or may not hold. Hopefully, you are not basing QA statistics on whether or not you like a certain MT's attitude about you.
Excellent sound quality and just leave me alone to work! nm
s
Now MT companies in India have control over the work produced. Quality is much
zz
Hahah!a! Funny typo: not quality 'scAre', quality 'scOre'. LMAO!...nm
nm
Winscribe is fine where I work. But if a mic is malfunctioning, sound quality is suboptimal.
cc
Work in a hospital and no one cares about quality, unless there is a malpractice law suit involved.
All anyone worries about is quantity. The work is terrible and the only time anyone even acknowledges it is when a doctor is being sued. When my son was operated on I had to marked his leg in permanent marker before surgery because left/right get mixed up so much. You can tell reports that comes from India and my supervisor sits there and laughs with us. Due to the "freeze" we haven't had raises in over 5 years.
I think that depends on the quality. Do you honestly think there is good quality just throwing every
MT on any account like they are. I also think QA has been told to not waste a lot of time on blanks so I think the hospitals are getting a lot more blanks. I certainly have more when I get in a hospital I dont know and they talk 100 miles an hour.
I thought quality was a given. Speed and quality are not mutually exclusive. sm
I maintain 99% accuracy above on my reports. However, the original question was regarding personal preference, and I have stated mine, and I respect your opinion as well. :-) I do think if I was working in an office or hospital setting, the setup you mentioned might be more profitable in the long run. There are too many interruptions and such when you have other people running in and out, phones ringing, etc.
I doubt that anyone but me really cares about the lines per hour it takes for me to do a report. They just want an accurate report in a timely manner. I take pride in my work, and would never just slop something out for the sake of the almighty buck. And, as an added incentive, I work for 2 companies, and one of them has my name on each report. I don't have a problem with it, but I did think it was a bit unusual at first.
Oh well ... I must confess that what I'd TRULY like is to be paid lots of money to just sit and play Battle Phlinx on Pogo all day long, but as of yet, no such luck.
ethics
I posted yesterday but it never appeared???
Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your supervisor. I happen to work on an account that's a Catholic Hospital so they refuse abortions.
MT Ethics
The issue is that no one bothered to inform me and YES I am getting less work. This was my account that I acquired and have worked hard on for 1-1/2 years. I think it's despicable. Yes, my client can contract with whomever they wish, but the decent thing to do is at least notify me they were making some changes.
Ethics
That's just it. I am not receiving the same work. I have actually turn away work to keep room for the work load. I am disgusted and will NEVER have anyone fill it for me again. Here I am doing the office a favor and then slapped in the face. Where are the morals here?
guess you have no ethics eh?..sm
no ethics
no morals
think you're going to heaven?
No contract. And no ethics.

MT Ethics question
Hello-Need some feedback. I am a seasoned IC MT. The PT office I type for asked that I find a back-up for a vacation I went on in August. I found someone, which took considerable time, to fill in for me. I gave her the opportunity to make some extra cash and assured her that I would send accounts her way if I could, etc. I just found out, she is also transcribing for this office behind my back. I had no idea. Isn't this unethical???? Shouldn't she have extended the courtesy of at least informing me? I would never do that. Not sure of the circumstances, either. Whether she offered them less rates, or if they initiated contact. Either way, I feel like I have been "had". Please comment. Anyone?
MQ mandatory code of ethics course?
Did anyone else get an email from Howard about all MQ employees taking a mandatory ethics course? Hmm...I thot I already WAS ethical....
Well let me assure you the company has no ethics...
either and has been banned from this board because of it. They don't treat this account the way they should and quite frankly the client deserves better.
cant you report him to an ethics board?
''
Question of personal ethics
If you worked for a company who supplied you with normals, templates, macros, whatever you call a canned dictation, and said canned dictations are full of every type of error you can imagine from spelling to incorrect terms and things typed (I can't say transcribed) in a way that is wrong, and you were told to leave it "as is" and sign your name to it...would you?
I am having a hard time signing my name to something I didn't transcribe and looks like that. I have some pride in my work and I have paid my dues for too long to let ANYTHING so HIDEOUS go anywhere with my name on it!!!!!
What would you do?
Resume
I would have liked to have heard from this person on the board instead of seeing the job posted again. I did not receive any response to my resume.
Resume sent
I sent you my resume. Let me know what you think
resume
where can i post my resume on the board?
RESUME
I went to the Company's Board and sent my resume to all of the companies that I felt would work for me. Specifically, I did not want to supply my own equipment. Plus my resume was simply a description of my past experiences. I didn't put in "objectives, goals, etc." I simply stated what I did. I have never done a resume and did not use a specific format. I got a reply and got hired over the phone in less than ONE day. I didn't have the equipment to test with, so they will just watch my work for two weeks, and if I "pass," I'm hired. They furnish all the equipment if you want them to, the recruiter was SO nice and comfortable, and the start pay was rather good. I came from a "not so nice" company, so I'm SO happy. I didn't post my resume as I feel there are so many ones posted, it would be next to impossible for a company to go through all those resumes. This way, I went to the company, presented myself via my "simple" resume, and got an email the next morning. That is the way I would do it. Use the Company Board and just keep sending your resume to all the companies. Your resume comes back after you post; you just go on to the next company and post ...... easy as pie. Good Luck!!
Resume
Has anyone been able to actually log into the resume sectoin on the Job Seeker's board? I created a user ID/password last weekend and still get a log in error. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.
On my resume
I list my current work status as follows:
Independent Contractor - Medical Transcriptionist
5/00 - Present
Include a statement about refs being available upon request, and then provide the refs of your choosing based on how many they want.
Why does my resume pop up here?
Whenever I click on Apply Now on any job ad on the job seeker board here, my resume is automatically pasted into the box!!
How did that happen? I don't paste it - it's already there.
Resume
Does anyone know where I can find samples of MT resumes?
what to put on resume???
I am kind of at my wit's end here. I have only worked for two different companies as a transcriptionist, one for 17 years and the present one for 12 years. What do I need to put on a resume, besides these two companies that I have worked for. Should I list the types of reports I have transcribed? Does anyone know of a template that I could use for this? Thanks to all!!
resume
I was told to copy into a notebook format and use the notebook to copy and paste it into the text boxes. I did this to be on the safe side after noticing the same problem you are having.
What I do on my resume....
I put "Formerly credentialed by AHIMA as a Registered Health Informaation Administrator." At one time I had "inactive" after the letters, but changed that to the 'former.' No one has ever questioned me on it one way or another. I still have my original certification letter and credential certificate in case i ever need to prove it.
I sent my resume sm
I am glad someone else asked about them. I got a letter of introduction.
Gotta have DSL, not cable (I have cable). They go into detail about the number of lines per period expected, but nothing about how lines are counted. They do not give the stipulations of how a sign on bonus is to be paid out either. They only have 2 positions open and they are both 3 to 11.
I usually jump on a job (if I am looking which I am right now) if I have not seen the company advertise extensively for MTs. I figure if a company is always looking for MTs, it is because they have a low MT retention rate. This is not always the case, but it is my first thought. I also come here and read about a company too.
I got this letter after I had agreed to full time with another company that doesn't advertise much either. The line rate is quite a bit less, but it is employee status, matching taxes, company contributes to health insurance and it is not very expensive with 7 different plans to choose from, dental, vision and a PTO program that pays based on your average hourly rate over the previous 90 days, which is pretty fair if you ask me. Given the state of my income tax bill...a lower line rate with some benefits and some help on taxes all look good to me. They will reimburse for my internet, but as I have another PT IC job I won't be putting in for this, I'll need it for my taxes (it is not very high in any case).
So...here I go, my first employee status as an MT.
Of note, I have a place I gave my notice to today. They pay 10 and 11 cents a line and there is never any work, or at least it has gotten to where they run out on a regular and predictable basis. On top of that, I think they have slowly shifted how they are counting lines because I have been working faster and over the same numbers of hours, but my checks have gotten smaller and smaller to the point where last check was HALF what my check had been the last of October! I am out of there.
resume
Does anyone know if there is any way to post a resume, like there used to be?
maybe it's the resume.
Can you get someone to look it over and make suggestions?
Include all tech you are familiar with, types of reports you are proficient at, etc.
resume
What I have found to be a constant problem in placing ads for positions is indeed the resume. I know that they say you only get "one chance to make a first impression" but a resume IS your one chance. If you are asked to paste to email only and download it instead, you have already lost. If you are listing your experience in Cardiology, Radiology, etc and capitalizing items in the resume that should not, you are have lost. Our profession calls for precise knowledge of things capped and not capped, hyphen, none, etc. So if a resume is a reflection of the person then as an MTSO not sitting and interviewing you in person, you have a resume in hand to go by. It should be as close to perfect as can be.
Giving away age is as simple as stating you have worked in WP 5.1 or 6.1. AND some companies, mine included will eagerly look for those experiences because it shows you have been around a while and know the field.
When you get say 200 resumes for a position, you have to whittle down the responses so you first go by the appearance of the resume, and by that I do not mean something aesthetically pleasing, but use of grammar and caps. Then I check for qualifications...if I asked for experienced only apply and they dont have experience, circular file. If I ask for specific background or equipment and they dont have it, circular file. There is always a method to getting down to the people that are qualified and testing those people, but it is a long and time consuming process. To respond back to all resumes is time consuming and to do it in a timely matter is difficult so process of elimination is utmost.
Does your resume show a lot of short-term jobs? I look for that because I believe most companies are looking for long-term IC not fly-by-night, so again, there are many things a resume tells a person.
Does it list the equipment you OWN?? I dont care much for what equipment you may be able to work, but own yes. In this day of computers and Dictaphone, Lanier, voice files, etc, a company asking for specifics, like owning Lanier or Dictaphone want to be able to see that reflected on the resume. I have probably sent out 200 emails asking about equipment, even though my ad clearly states 'MUST HAVE' I will get 100 resumes from people that dont have the equipment, dont have the experience, have never even transcribed or taken a course. So do not just assume that we KNOW you meet our requirements listed because you apply, we may have to ask if it is not on a resume.
The resumes I like the most are short and to the point..
name, add, phone number, email and cell phone
course work or where you learned transcription. I truly do not care what grade school you went to, high school or college. If it does not pertain to MT work then frankly it doesn't help to know you are an Honor Student from some college. That will NOT GET THE REPORT TRANSCRIBED CORRECTLY.
work experience - and start with most current going back. I dont want to read your jobs from 1800 and work my way up. I want to see where YOU ARE NOW in this field and work my way back. We all start somewhere, were a newbie once, but at the time of hiring, I need to see how FAR you have come.
reference materials - yes they help, being able to Google something is fine, but having a reference source at hand to know the caps, not capped, etc, is important. Google has things done so many ways it is not always the most precise for that purpose.
equipment OWNED - like own Dictaphone, Lanier, computer, fax - is it dedicated or shared - computer, etc.
platforms worked, i.e. Citrix, Star, HBO. Meditech, RadTrans, that type of thing.
WHAT I DONT CARE TO READ IN A RESUME
hobbies - could care less about your bowling experience or knitting projects....they have nothing to do with work
movies you like
jobs that did NOT pertain to MT work. I dont care if you were a great bartender or worked third shift for Motorola for 10 years. I DO CARE about things that pertain to what I am hiring for.
When an ad stats looking for STEADY, RELIABLE MT, that means just that...so if I see you had 10 jobs in 5 years, the word steady kinda goes out the door. If I email you back once and no answer, could be glitch, twice and not answer, reliable is wavering now also.
There are a lot of variables to WHY a resume is not responded to. If I have to sift through a bunch of stuff that does NOT pertain to what I am looking for, I dont, I move on. Without seeing yours I cant say why, but I hope this helps a little bit.

I got my job from my resume off of here. sm
She saw it on there and then phoned me. Gave me an phone interview and then I got the job. It is always no that easy obviously, but she did get my resume from here.
But, she was the only one. I have never been contacted again about it.
Need Some Help With My Resume
I'm trying to write a resume (first one in you don't wanna know how many years, LOL!) and my poor little pea-brain.... I can't, for the life of me, remember the exact dates and order of my various jobs. I DO for the most part remember WHO I worked for...
So today I called the hospital that I worked for twice. They were able to give me the dates of my second tour of duty there, but they claimed to have no record of my first stint with them. The rather rude HR clerk told me that those records had probably been purged. Keep in mind that I'm sure of what YEAR I started with them that time around (1991), but not sure of the month, and clueless about when I left that time around. Is 1991 really so long ago that an HR dept wouldn't have records????
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I've worked for the Q at least 3 times (it might be 4, due to acquisitions and mergers). I worked for another medium-size MTSO twice also. Sometimes I was working 2 jobs at one time. Once I worked for a lady who was doing IC work for the VA. I have no clue what her name was, and she no longer has an office in the place where I worked for her.
How do I possibly consolidate this all into a functional resume????
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!
resume response
yeah, i know what you're saying. have not heard from spheris (three weeks now). so i move on. it just kinda makes you think either their busy and have no time (do they have time for the hired who need help?)or they looked at your resume and decided to pass.
Because the pay is better and the title looks much better on any resume for any job.
