1. To start I was always told to allow myself 4 hours per hour of dictation. You get faster as you go on and looking up things can slow one up.

2. NO, NO, NO. You need a foot pedal and express scribe is free. I have never needed other software other than the platform which is usually provided by the company. I used Express Scribe (free) with my own clients.

2. Templates usually cover things like headings and macros. If you hear most dictators, you will quickly realize that the need is DEFINITE. Between the mumbling, coughing, background noise, occasional eating, losing train of thought, skipping around, etc, no template could cover all of that.

4. Without experience it would vary, but as one gains experience and learns the format,dictators,etc, you get faster. I probably started out with 100 lines per hour and easily do 300 now.
