What I do and have excellent results, put doctors name in google, city, state and it always comes up
nm
Another suggestion, google a specific state's dept. of medical or professional licensing.
I've got the Missouri Division for Professional Registration --> which you can look up MDs, DOs, RNs, PACs, LPNs, etc.
Kentucky has a board of medical licensure website with a search function. Indiana has a state professional licensing website.
In some states, like California and Texas, they separate the nurses and doctors, so there are two separate sites to search. If you have a nurse practitioner dictating, it's good to know.
I'm not at my own PC as I'm working in the office right now so I don't have access to all my different sites, so I'm trying to remember what all I have.
Let's see.... WebMD is a good one.
If I think of anymore, I'll post 'em!
Usually the hotels I go to have
thin plastic cups inside plastic sleeves. We throw out what we use. When we are in a suite that has a kitchenette, we always at least rinse the dishes and coffee cups before using. I just assume the cleaning people are in a hurry and don't wash their hands between tasks. That's why I also bring my own towels - they clean a toilet and then put out towels - ewww! Plus they smell like they weren't dried thoroughly - that fishy smell, you know. I just can't dry my hair and face on them, so I pack my own. The last place we stayed had a washer and drier, and we were there 1 week, so I washed some towels. Too bad there was no heat for the drier! It just tumbled with cold air. My dad said it was likely the plug wasn't wired right for a drier.
Yuck. The drier is where a lot of germs get killed.
Hotels
I used to manage a hotel with guest access. Guests have the ability to use individual passwords that change on a 24 hour basis and their own equipment, connection cards, etc. and not the hotel property. Not sure that every hotel operates the same way but I know the one that I worked for was a very secure connection, probably more so than any home connection.
I certainly cannot comment on your companies contract. I am only commenting on my own experience and knowledge. As far as what the OP wants to do with the info. that's up to her.
working from hotels
Has anyone ever done their job from a hotel room but NOT using tapes, using a regular phone? I may have to trave to my sisters and it is cross country. Rather than not work for the entire week, i was thinking of packing my lap top and Dictaphone Cphone and taking it with me. I figured i could work at night then sleep and then drive. BUT not sure if you can use a say phone card for the time by dialing into it with the dictahone OR not. Dont have any way to re=record the work and have the tapes sent to ME to be able to do it that way.
Any suggestions? Unfortunately I have not won the lottery so I do not have means to be able to just not work at all and am trying desparately to be there for her AND still support me.
Any help appreciated....

Start wtih hotels.com and see where it takes you. nm

Oh one more thing..if your traveling and staying at hotels, plan ahead. I learned the hard way.
A hotel that states they have "internet access" does not necessarily have it in your room. A lot of them have what they call a "business" center where they have like a community computer to share with other guests or to have access on your laptop you need to sit in that room. I dont know about you but I dont feel like dragging out all of my equipment and sitting in a lobby somewhere to work. Double check that they have internet access available in your room.. and be forewarned that most chart for wireless internet access like maybe $10-12 for a 24-hour period. We just got back from Vegas, and to me, it was worth that fee for a whole 24 hours. I got the most work I could out of it.
Yep, google has it goin on... I really like the google earth...
Have you tried Google earth? You can type in any address, street, city, state, country, etc. and it will zoom in and show the area and then you can hit the + button and zoom right in and see the exact house, building, etc. that you are looking for.
Mainly Google; I google the known words in the phrase (sm)
That's my most frequent tactic if I don't find the word in my word books. I'll play with leaving certain words out and adding them in, in various combinations, to try to get a hit that has a word which sounds like my blank. If I get a hit, I'll Google WITH that word, and see what hits I get, and what their source is (i.e.,checking the sources out for reliability). When I say 5 sites or searches, I mean I don't often try more than 5 different combinations without a serious hit. If I get a hit, then I will spend a little more time checking that out before I give up.
If it's a drug name, I use RxList, or more frequently the Drugs.com website. Since they redid RxList, I haven't found one that has quite as good a wildcard search, but Drugs.com works okay most of the time.
If it's a place name (like when they give names of outlying outreach clinics and etc.) I'll use Mapquest and look up the city my hospital is in, then "pan out" and look at the outlying towns.
Hope that's what you're looking for. I do have bookmarks, but I find that even the ones I think I'll visit again, I waste more time doing that than with an intelligent google search. An example is the time I was looking for "banana bag." The only place I managed to find it with a degree of reliability was on a nurses' message board. I've found quite a bit sometimes on the various specialty message boards out there, but I think the quickest way to locate that is through a search engine rather than bookmarking each individual site and trying to figure out which ones to search for a particular term.
Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.) Then you really avoid the tax situation.
Is it kid friendly?
x
pet friendly
I for one can identify with you. Leaving my simon at home would be like leaving a kid at home! For the last eight years we have planned most of our vacations around our dog. I have found some of the greatest ones were groups of cabins on the lake (I am in Texas, so we have gone to tennessee, arkansas, etc) but I'm sure there are some close to you. They have group cookouts, hiking, casino nights, soft ball, lots of fun stuff. You might check something like that.
Friendly HHS contact
I was wondering if anyone had the name and number or E-mail address of a friendly person at the Department of Health and Human Services? I have a couple quick short questions concerning the HIPAA regulations.
Thanks.
Just be sure it is transcription friendly and
it has everything at your fingertips, i.e. doctor roster, automatic demographic fill-in, line cout accessible, one key to send and hopefully automatic download, good spell check, and me personally "could live without my ShortHand abbreviation expander. It works in all windows programs, so therefore I can use it on most all software programs.
My supervisor is very friendly and
personable, however, we have never met in person. We have "known" each other for years since we have both worked out of the same office a long time, he used to be an office employee, recently promoted.
I have WP 10 and I like it. User friendly. sm
I've used MS Word too, but there really isn't that much difference and its easy to learn.
Very user friendly
Although I was a newbie at the time, after finishing a MT course, they first had me on Dictaphone and then trained us on Escription/Edit Script. It was much, much easier than Dictaphone and any MT with experience would find it very easy to use. There really is not that much training needed---just to learn the commands, which is included in the tutorial. It really is a great platform.
How user friendly is it really?
nm
It is very user friendly...
...I think you'll like it. Good luck!
Yep, VERY user friendly...
You'll be up and running into no time. :-)
I don't think it is very user friendly - sm
I used it for a day I think and then quit, hated it. Too many steps up to actually working and it was just a pain in the butt to use. There are many platforms that are much better than EMDAT.
Name a state and put every company in that state under suspicion.
Tell what the first letter of the company is and every company with that initial will be suspect. I would imagine that everyone who works for that company has received an inquiry from department of labor, so they would all be aware of it.
Why do we persist in setting up companies to be torn down when there is no reason for it. If a company is suspect, then give the name of the company, don't give big hints that cover at least 5 companies, 4 of which may be the best companies to work for, but fall into the category of an alphabetical letter, etc.
Contact your local BBB in your state and in their state if different from yours.

Not mandatory, as you state it depends on your state - sm
or county. Where I am I do not need it; though if I was cutting grass or landscaping I would where I live, makes no sense to me as I am providing a service, but very happy I don't have to have one. We pay personal property tax here and I would have to list all my business related equipment and pay taxes on it every year I was in business. So until I am told otherwise by my county, I will not be getting a business license.
very user friendly, productive ...
i was disappointed my lines didn't increase more dramatically over old system -- but there was an increase. I like it well enough i hope i never have to use another system. Maybe the 'decrease' in lines others report is due to messing around on the internet instead of working, as 2 minutes here and there really can add up...
hometalkcafe.com might have one. Friendly bunch there.
o
software that is user friendly (sm)
I'm not sure of the difference between software and a platform, but I just want to work for a company whose program is easy to work on, not a lot of glitches, freezes, server problems, etc. etc. That defeats the whole purpose of what we were hired to do - TRANSCRIBE. Also when there is a problem, it would be nice to have someone be able to help you quickly.
Is ExSpeech user friendly?
Can you make good lines on Dictaphone ExSpeech voice recognition?
EMDAT InScribe -- not friendly
Terrible platform.
The question you are asking is a very friendly way of calling on all CHERRYPICKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sm
doing work that other people either can't or won't do. You should learn just like the rest of us, how to do it all. Take it or leave it. Do them all or do none, so the rest of us won't get cheated out of "easy" reports too!
I know that at my co. you are asked what you can and cannot do. That's a joke! They move me around because I can do it all! Of course I get stuck doing crap because all the easy stuff is taken. Now, come on, is that fair? I don't think so!
so there! You heard a mouthful about one of my biggest pet peeves!
I've tried to be friendly and have a sense of humor,
so I just quit..and went about doing my job figuring they didn't have time to socialize. They seem all business... even my QA person, very cut and dry. I've tried joking with her with not much response. I wasn't sure what was expected of me in that respect.
Does anyone out there have any good pet friendly vacation ideas?? sm
Would love to go away for a small vacation with the kids but they dont want to leave their furry friends behind...and neither do I. I am looking for someplace that will take two dogs and is also kid friendly. I live in Ohio so I dont want something to far away. Dog friendly and kid friendly....too much to ask for????
Which platforms do you find to be the most user friendly . . . sm
and allow you to be more productive? Your input is greatly appreciated!
Invoice program - user friendly
I currently use Abacus for line counting. I need a separate program for line counting and hourly work that is very user friendly. Any advice?
The newest version is VERY user friendly. The one right before
it stunk. Make sure you're getting to work on one that has the very newest version that came out this fall.
VISTA Friendly Transcription Companies?
I saw a post here within the last month for Vista-friendly companies. Please email me if you know who they are. Thanks so much!
I love BeyondText. User friendly
are pulled in with a simple search. I was making my minimum line counts by the end of the first week.
Thank you, Google God. My google icon is

Is their platform user friendly, or does it depend on the account?
nm
I have tried both. Smartype is user friendly, easy to learn. I'd use it again.
NM
VR program. Very user-friendly and easy to learn.
xx
Strongly dislike Emdat. It is not transcriptionist friendly.
It gives a great report to the doctor and the companies like it....the only shortcomings directly involve the lowest on the pay scale, the transcriptionists.
If the company is using the program fully it is not too bad, but when they won't even instruct the docs to do their part then you might as well forget about maintaining your line count. It's sad.
One week of working on a new platform and I do not feel it is user-friendly
Editing itself is not bad. It is the documentation of the changes I made, I think for purposes of feedback to MT, which I have to do on Word (outside of the platform) that is driving me crazy and is eating up a lot of time. I do not think I am being productive. I am paid an hourly rate but I am almost embarrassed with my production. I think doing QA without going the through the MTing using the same platform presents a lot of difficulty. Is it too early to decide whether this is a good fit for me?
Is ExText user friendly? Can you make good lines?
I will be using a foot pedal - ? Transnet.
I'm using Meditech Magic now and I can't imagine anything being worse.
Has anyone used IntraScript or I-Scriptor as a platform? User-friendly, productive? Any comments?
xx
Is the em dat (?) program user friendly - can you make lines - complicated to learn?nm
