I have a Dell, but everytime I have to talk to India, they always make the problem worse, and I have had to pay 50 bucks for them not to be able to fix it.

They outsource to India... go figure
We all lost our jobs a few years back when Dell made the decision to close all the call centers and send the work over to India. They are "programmed" not to fix the problem, but to get you off the phone as quickly as possible. Their answer to everything is to format and reinstall. I was with them for over 2 years before we got the ax. If anybody ever needs help with their Dell, just "yell."
On a side note, I had to laugh when I saw an article in Reader's Digest about Mr. Dell and all the "great things he is doing for the US." If people only knew....
They'll figure it out as the cost of living in India rises
and their pay-per-line doesn't.

I'm going to have to use that one! LOL Since most clients aren't wanting more work put on their staff, at least not in my experience, that will certainly be a showstopper for many of mine. :D Hee hee, thanks for that tip, JoV! ;)

It's not necessarily all good. India has invaded Canada in the MT business.
They set up shop and solicit business in the US claiming to be "Canadian". I've been solicited by several different people over the years trying to horn in on my business.

I'm sick of hanging on by my fingernails hoping things will get better.
Every day for the last 4 years my income has diminished. As long as
men have their fingers in any particular industry, you can bet you will starve
doing work for them. They suck the $$ out of it and then leave whatever profession
they were into, devastated and in shambled.
They have done it to drugs for our health, our hospitals, our medical field of doctors and nurses, and now they have done it to transcription.
I just wish one day I could meet one of these guys face to face. Better yet I'd like to have a conversation with him when finally one of his loved ones has to use this devastated system they have brought down to nothing.
Now our ERs are overloaded and closing. Medical care is getting to be nonexistant. Hospitals barely let you stay long enough to get the IV in your arm, and then they are wheeling you out the door comatose but they have to follow the guidelines which means no longer than X number of hours per stay!!!! Well, hell's bells, why did I go to the hospital in the first place - I could have stuck a needle in my arm at home and not been shuttled around in the heat and car -
PROFIT.....I think America needs to rethink capitalism - it has begun to have an aroma about it.

How was everyone's Christmas? Good, I hope.
We wound up missing the big Christmas Day family feast because one of our kids woke up from a nap with a 102.4 degree temperature. It hit 104.9 in the middle of the night last night. Of course, the clinic is closed today so I'll have to take him to the ER if things don't get better soon. Poor little sprite.

My husband just had a similar situation, only his was a growth on the side of his nose. Doctors thought it was a cyst or a mite that got stuck in there. After sending it off to 3 labs, it was diagnosed as Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. They may have gotten the whole thing during the surgery, but husband still has to undergo 20 days of radiation therapy to the site. His prognosis is excellent. He was very scared during the waiting period and once he received the diagnosis, however he has adjusted to getting the radiation and has settled down.
You can be his support. When my husband had all kinds of negative things running through his mind, I kept encouraging him that it may not be as serious as he is imagining. I also have a brother that had Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and he talked to my husband about his treatment, which helped my husband a lot, as well.

I always used to wonder why so many people on ebay started listing from smoke-free home. Then I bought an antique book,and boy did I understand! Now you will definitely be asking the smoke free home question right away for anything on Ebay, right? Yuck. Again, I used to smoke for decades and had no idea how awful it smells.Smokers don't really smell it themselves! Have fun, too!!

All customer service is outside of the US and I had a really tough time communicating with them. Also if you choose to discontinue early there's a whopping $90 fee that's buried in the fine print.
I used Vonage with broadband satellite for 2 months and it disconnected frequently on me....my satellite has been stable for years with multiple platforms so I suspect Vonage is just not suited for satellite. Just a heads up!

i agree with your post -- however, you just don't seem to get it -- CIRCUMSTANCES happen -- my s/o and I had something happen last month to where he had to renew a license for his work -- had it renewed and on PAPER, however, his company said they wanted the "hard plastic copy" he has to carry a gun to work and the state and federal government took their sweet time -- he got laid off, applied for unemployment, got a couple of checks for a WHOPPING $275 a week!!! -- Finally, last week got a call from his employer "even though you legally can't carry a gun right now, we have a position" -- this week the PROPER paperwork came in, he got rehired, but LOST ALL his senority. I hope you are wonderful and yes, we DO live within our means, we use ATM cards etc and I balance my checkbook but who the heck are YOU to judge!!!!

 Our country sucks when it comes to teamwork. My experience is in hospital transcription and 95% foreign dictators. Most of my dictators are from India and surrounding countries. Give up you all,  India is already way ahead of us!

listen to you. They are not listening to me! You said it exactly as it is. This is not a "school" career. It is by learning. Maybe the school gets you started, but it still takes years of learning.
I do feel sorry for the folks who went to these schools thinking that was all they needed because they really got taken advantage of. I don't know if any hospitals these days train folks or not. My opinion is if you have been in school then you need to go work in a hospital/medical center/teaching facility for several years before EVER trying to coming home and do this. you just cannot make any money at this working on production coming out of school. There is no way. Let me rephrase that, maybe you can but on a limited basis with an easy account, not a lot of foreign dictators, one or two work types etc. But, in order to do everything it takes YEARS!

Those who protest our efforts to defeat terrorism, and those who hate George Bush more than they hate those who want to kill us, really need to wake up. These people have the ONE thing that we DON'T have...... Patience. So many people would like to think that 9/11 is a thing of the past and that if we just mind our own business, this will all go away. They will out wait us, because they know that we have no patience, and they will strike again. If we don't remain on the offense, no matter how unpopular it make be among the "kum-ba-ya" crowd, we will eventually perish. Giving "peace a chance" will be the end of us. These people don't operate as we do, and we better realize that right now before it's too late.

My DH was telling me McDonalds was going to do this too,
but inside the US...not India. I think we should boycott the drive throughs that don't use in-house workers. Take the time to walk inside and place your order with a real person and make it a point to say so. Of course, the only way it will make a real statement is if EVERYONE does it, so what's the chance of that. So we'll watch our MINIMUM WAGE jobs now just creep away as if nothing is wrong, right!

Just telling it as I see it after all these years
in the business, know what I am talking about. I was told by a manager in the early 90s I would not see voice recognition in my lifetime. Well, guess what folks, it is here and automation is taking over a lot. I am thankful for the money I made in the past in order to raise a family and it was excellent money BUT I am right on the money as far as what I have said, just type faster because I do not see this as a profitable job as it once was. Some agree and some won't but the business is down the drain for MTs these days. In the 80s I worked outside my regular 40 hr week and charged $20 an hour - wonder how many places pay that now?? You are lucky if you have any.
