I have a KVM switch and using cable for my high-speed internet so what i needed ... SM
to connect my second computer to the internet was simply the ethernet cord along with the KVM switch box. I actually work with a router, but it was simple to set up and works like a charm.
DSL - distance from office or switch.
My hubby is retired from the phone company. DSL services don't have anything to do with distance from the office/switch. Each community has a "box," usually green, on the side of the road, normally at an intersection, where phone services for that area are handled. If the equipment in the box is not fiberoptic compatible or old technology, you can't get DSL in the area served by that box. Once enough people ask for DSL so that it is "cost effective" in that area, you get new equipment installed and that area gets DSL.

Check your USB drivers. The printer works off the printer driver. The pedal needs a joystick
driver in order to work. You have to configure your USB port for this.

My sewing machine has a knee control built into the side of the cabinet and I find this very comfortable. I would like to somehow do the same with foot pedal I use for transcription. Can figure out how to mount it, but having trouble adjusting it so the 3 pedals are not an issue. ANyone done this or have any input?

Though I have not had experience with this type of modification, I have repaired numerous footpedals and have some information that may be helpful. Generally, the footpedal is comprised of the primary circuit board, the wiring to the computer, and the three switches for play, rewind, and fast forward. These switches are easily removed from the pedal with a screwdriver. With basic soldering, you can lengthen the wiring to each switch, or even replace them with different switches you can get at a local electronics store. With a little bit of creative engineering, you could mount some knee -controllable switches that could control the footpedal.

My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!

Comcast cable has ULD that goes through their cable sm
and there are no limitations. I asked them. They said that you could use the phone 24/7 and it would make no difference. The cable modem has a telephone connection and backup battery in there, all in one unit. If you lose your power, the backup battery kicks in for 12 hours I think they said. I personally was reluctant but it is clearer than Verizon regular phone service. Clear as a bell! It is $39.95 a month. If you have any cable service, you might want to check and see if they have this. This is VOiP protocol but I just have never seen anything that was as clear as theirs.
If Comcast has this, it is my guess that the other cable internet services either have it or will have it in the future. This is fairly new with Comcast.

AND the biz about "not enough MTs" is bull, the ones that know better, don't want to take the cut. All my docs supply their own
paper, letterhead, envelopes, etc. I did have one doc that wanted sticky paper, but the office supplied it to me at no charge. I would give them a copy of the receipt when you purchase it. Attach it to the bill with a small charge for having to go and buy it for them. Could you perhaps speak to the office manager who could maybe have their person who purchases supplies order it for you?

This leads to the IC jumping at the client's whims and rules, or flat out finding another client. These days, though, IMHO, it is hard to find a client which does not withdraw work if you don't meet their criteria. Guess it is part of the TAT, competition going on everywhere.

We have not raised rates for 3 years and don't intend to. Which means MT's don't get raises either. But you either deal with it or you get out and get into another field. If prices are stable, quality will begin to count again. It's simply a cost vs benefit analysis. Just like some US MTs stink on the quality scale, I hear some Indian MTs are quite good. When the cost is stable enough that docs can't "settle" for poor quality (which many of them really don't care - it's just another requirement they must fulfill), then they'll look for quality again. Those of them who are quality MTs, will be able to compete, and with the increased competition based primarily on quality, the substandard MTs will go away, both Indian and US, but with cost being the sole driving factor, it's my belief that the quality of the average US MT is no longer much better that the average Indian MT.

You can buy the professional stuff even if you're not a beautician. My SIL says not to use the box stuff. She buys tubes of coloring and uses two or three different shades to get more highlights and lowlights so it looks more natural instead of being unicolor. She's a licensed cosmetologist/beautician or whatever they're called nowadays.

I just finished staying with my uncle during his last few months of lung cancer. The motorized lift action was a godsend the last few weeks when he had trouble standing up to get into his walker and move around. We were fortunate in that one of the relatives had a relative who had a relative... etc... anyway, we were able to get a used lift chair in good condition for a lot less, but even if you have to pay full price at medical supply store, it is definitely the way to go if your mom has mobility problems or you think she will in the near future.

When I first left my ex, I moved in with a coworker and her two sons. About twice a week, she would hit the thrift stores and antique stores. I started going with her. What a blast. I could not believe all the really good stuff you could buy for just a little bit of money. I usually check out thrift/resale stores about twice a month. One lady I used to work with at a local hospital, dressed so nice, so chic..She always looked so put together. One day at lunch she told us all of her clothes are bought at the local thrift store.

If the little mom and pop stores were charging close to the prices of Wal-Mart, you bet I would shop there exclusively, however, I have to think about my family first and providing for them as I am the only one bringing in a measley Transcriptionist paycheck and I dont have enough hours in the day or enough energy to go back to school..So, I truly am sorry about the whole situation but isnt that what this administration and others have tried to brain wash us about..its all capitalism..so if a big company comes in and squeezes out the smaller ones, it is still capitalism? I dont agree with it but it is happening all over America and the little guy and working guy are being squeezed. I mean, it is even happening with us and outsourcing..This administration says outsourcing is a good thing yet it is taking middle class jobs. Oh, geez..truly sorry for the rant.

I would so appreciate some help. I just started an IC job. I wasn't told I would need a word Expander and medical spellcheck. Every other place I have worked for provided these. I need to get something fast, i.e., in person now if possible!, as I am already working and not very productive without these two items. There was a store I went to years ago in downtown Atlanta where I got some medical books near the Fox theater. Does anyone know if it is still there and the name of it? With mail order I paid $15 for a 3 month supply,

dead town-ban WM stores
A little over 20 years ago WM opened in our town even though they had a Howard's at that time and put them out of business. Our nice town also had a sporting goods store, fabric store, several pharmacies, several local clothing stores and pool supply place. The only one that survived were the pharmacies. WM moved out a little over a year ago. Now we have to go 30 miles to find anything that we can't find in a dollar store. Not only do we have a big empty building that they left, now we will have another empty building that a chain grocery store is leaving because WM built super stores in the surrounding towns that use to shop in our nice little town. I suspect it will take years, if ever, to recover. Our only hope is that we have good leadership in our community.
