I am in need of a software that plays .dvf files. I currently use Gear Player, and although it plays a multitude of different files, I can't get it to play .dvf. Does anyone know of a free one online I can try?  Thanks!!

You can also tell from the name on the voice file. sm
The files are named sequentially, lowest to highest. That should also help you to detemine which ones are the "oldest".

I'm no techie, but it sounds like they might've sent the wrong file by mistake. Or could it be a program you need for testing/working for them that they sent? What is the name of the file (if it is something you can say here)?
can't play voice file
I was sent a voice file to transcribe (test) and I can play it but not at the same time that I am in MS Word. What am I doing wrong? TIA
upload voice file
A good way to upload a voice file is to send it by FTP to an in-house computer. This keeps it off email and the web.

Asked this on equipment board also -- Can someone please help me out with voice recognition program/software for personal use. What are the names of some products available and where do I purchase this particular software. Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City, etc.? Thanks for information.

It wasn't on a voice file. It was on an old Lanier, but (sm)
my friend transferred it to a tape (she had the dictation) and I listened to it. Gross.

Download the voice file to your computer.
Then open ES and load it in. If it's not a supported file format, you can get a program like Switch to convert it to a supported format.

I highly doubt that an itune voice file --sm
would be compatible with your software footpedal. my footpedal software recognizes certain types of voice fils like WAV or DSS, etc. but I seriously doubt if itunes uses those types of files. you can try though, but don't count on it. Save the file to a location where your digital voice player will locate it and try to open it. if your digital voice player will open it, your footpedal should work. but again, don't count on it.
Right click the voice file and save it to your computer.
Looking for Software to Organize Digital Voice Files
Anyone know of good software that can take my digital voice files and organize them so I can keep track of which worker is working on which doctor, keep an eye on turnaround time, etc. -- instead of making endless folders on the computer myself. Voice files are separate from the typed reports, which are done in Word. Thank you.

I'm not wasting 45 minutes of my time for a 2 minute voice file.
I'm not wasting my time on a physician who can't or won't speak half way decently, English born or not. I don't have to work for crappy doctors. I found ones who are willing to make an effort if they can't speak English, they try and spell things as do my English docs. I've been an MT for a VERY long time. I'm an excellent MT and have nothing to prove to you. Have a wonderful holiday season filled with KINDNESS. Try being a little less judgmental. Sounds like you ride atop a very high horse.

What type of file does your software play?
Maybe you can try a CD (mp3) format or rip a CD into a format that your software does play.

Free AV software
The free version of AVG is the only one that I'd recommend among the freebies. My preference would be either the "total" AVG product (not free) or Norton.
Unfortunately, no single AV software is able to catch every single virus. You have to consider that by some estimates there are a thousand or more viruses being released every day, which means that no virus software can hope to be 100% up to date.
Start Stop voice file player and conflicts with Spyware Doctor
I was having problems with StartStop and talked to one of their techs this morning. One of the bugs it was having was fixed when I turned off Spyware Doctor so I need a new anti-spyware program.
I’m thinking of trying Spyware Blaster. I called to see if there were any conflicts with that one but had to leave a message. In the meantime, does anyone use StartStop voice file player and also use Spyware Doctor without any buggy conflict problems between the two softwares?

The term "WAV pedal" has become a generic term. The software that you use will determine the file type(s) that you are able to play on your computer. You use either a pedal or hot keys (Fkeys) to control that playback. As stated below, Express Scribe is one such software program and it is free. It can be found by clicking on the link below.

Best free encryption software? sm
I'm going out of town tomorrow, kind of a mini family emergency, and for the first time will have to drag my laptop along to work. The encryption software on my main computer cannot be transferred to the laptop. Anyone have opinions on free encryption software that is fast to install, good quality, and easy to use. I don't have enough time to learn new software or putz with it. Thanks.

Just bought a new computer and need to load a linecounting software program. Used to have MTCount which was free but now it has changed to MTTools and is no longer that way. Any suggestions?

I need a software program similar to GearPlayer, free or cheap. Is there one that anyone can recommend? I want one that would work with the GearPlayer footpedal I have or with easy keyboard commands to start, stop, rewind, etc.
I ran across a site months ago that had older versions of Stedman's spellchecker for $30 or so. If anyone knows that site, or one similar, please share that info, as well.

Hi. I am a newbie here. I did a search in the forums but did not really find anything. I am going to be doing some work, for the first time in a long time, on digital voice files. I have an "Infinity" foot pedal and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, free software that will allow me to listen to the wav files and use my foot pedal. Download FTP SERVER software (it can be found free). Then have the docs
upload their files to YOUR server. There is no cost to you or the doc to do this. Someone does have to pay for the recorder, which I have chosen to do for 2 docs. The other one purchases his own when needed (twice in 7 years). One picks up files on FTP server. The other 2 still want theirs printed. Since they are not in same city, I mail them via snail mail and they are happy with that. I also do fax any stat reports to them at no charge simply because I have unlimited long distance.
Any suggestions where I can obtain free invoicing software, or reasonably priced. nm

Download Express Scribe, it's free, when you download the voice files you will listen to....
them in Express Scribe and you can set your footpedal up. I forget where the downloaded files go, can't remember if you can put them where you want them but I would have to search for them to download to Express Scribe - maybe someone else can tell you how. It is much better than what you are doing.
Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.
