I use the Microsoft Natural Keyboard. Locally it sells for $49.95, but through this web site it's only $29.95.
They seem to have a lot of nice deals. Check it out!

Ohhh how nice; do you have a website?
Just curious. That must be a nice way to express yourself.
Nice MT website for reference
Found this nice MT website on Google search. Thought I'd share it with all.
I just saw an ad on the job board and found their website
http://mditrans.com/
I found a website that may help define IC
I am searching myself for a clear definition, but I did find this site. I wonder if there are other sites that specifically state what an independent contractor really is especially in this field.
http://jobsearchtech.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.nolo.com/lawcenter/ency/article.cfm/objectid/4A2EDAAE%2D21E0%2D458D%2DB0099737751F4CA1/catID/0D973BC0%2D3287%2D4CA1%2D944DC75DE82DC59F
I've found that it's not just one website
I have found that the manufacturers' websites often show the brand names of the equipment used.
Not every employer or hospital will acknowledge a manufacturer's website as being a legitimate source, but at least the manufacturer often gives you a direction to look in and an idea of how a brand name is spelled.
Here's an example:
http://www.medtronic.com/your-health/bradycardia/device/index.htm
Found a great eponym website! sm
This has been helpful to me. I thought I'd share for those of you who haven't already discovered this website.
Hope it is helpful.

I found this website with lots of info. I too...sm
am hoping to get a position as an IC, mainly for the freedom. The quote from the website says that in order to qualify as an IC with the IRS you have to abide by this rule, as well as several others:
"Don't let the hiring firm dictate your working hours, although the firm may give you a deadline for completing your work."

I think the Lia Sophia is the name of the company..I just checked out their website..nice things! n

If you believe there's strength in numbers, then you probably understand why some 16 million American workers belong to labor unions.
The concept behind labor unions is straightforward: If you're an employee and you want your employer to make some sort of lasting change in your favor -- raising your salary or offering you broader benefits, for example -- you may have a better chance of getting what you want if you convince most or all of your coworkers to join together, or unionize, to ask for the same thing, perhaps even at the same time.
Unionization assumes employers will be more likely to listen to and make concessions in favor of workers who have banded together, because otherwise companies could face labor slowdowns or even strikes.
It's a simple enough idea, but the eventual effect is practically unavoidable: Labor unions and employers are, almost by definition, at odds. It only makes sense that labor unions are glorified by some, despised by others and viewed with bewilderment by many more. How can you decide if union membership is for you?
In Favor
Labor union supporters argue that unions have had a positive impact on American workers and the American economic system as a whole for decades. Proponents say that if it weren't for unions, many American workers wouldn't be able to count on now-commonplace benefits like:
- The eight-hour workday with time-and-a-half for overtime work.
- Higher wages. Union workers earn about 25 percent more each year than nonunion workers do, according to the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a federation composed of 65 labor unions in the United States.
- Fringe benefits like health insurance, company pension and retirement plans, life and disability insurance, and reimbursement for continuing education expenses.
- A safe work environment.
- Formal procedures for working out grievances with supervisors or other members of a company's management team.
Perhaps that's why so many Americans belong to labor unions and why union representation has become part of such a wide variety of occupations in both the blue-collar and white-collar worlds. Bus drivers, doctors, teachers, electricians, engineers, postal workers, musicians, construction workers -- all of them and many others are union members.
Opposed
Labor unions have many vocal critics, too. Some opponents say the organizations are simply too big and inefficient to be of any practical benefit to their members, let alone the country as a whole.
Critics charge that sometimes labor unions' high-level leaders -- whether at the local, state or national level -- work only to carry out their own personal agendas, not to meet the needs of their groups' members. (Indeed, some labor unions have been investigated for corruption, because their leaders allegedly used union funds for their own purposes. And in a few cases, labor unions have been accused of having links with organized crime.)
Get Informed Before You Decide
It's no wonder many American workers are a little less than certain about their level of knowledge and their beliefs when it comes to labor unions. Sound familiar? If so:
Read About Labor Unions and Labor Issues
Learn more about labor unions and the history of the labor movement in America. Be sure to examine the issue from both the employee's and employer's point of view.
Talk to Union Leaders and Employers
Find out how the people leading labor unions in your area define what they do and why they do it. What positive and negative impacts have employers in your area seen as a result of union organization in their companies?
Look for Stories About Union-Management Conflict in the News
In the currently sluggish economy in particular, disagreements and more serious conflicts between unions and corporate management tend to make the news more often. You can also read up on some of these issues in our HR Watch legal briefs.

I have a regular Microsoft ergonomic one now but I'm thinking I should probably get a replacement and use mine as a backup.
Oh, I found it really creepy when you said you found the flowers not so skillfully arranged on your
steps, and from your own flower bed. That's what I was worried about, having gone thru some psycho kids myself with my pups. Someone's been in your yard and in your garden and at your door without your knowledge. Its just creepy to me, and I'd still be very, very careful. Especially valid sounded the other MTs warning you about potential fake molestation charges. You just NEVER know nowadays, and these people have already turned on you big time once. Luckily (though I don't believe in luck), you had it on film to save yourself and your puppy. You might not be that lucky next time, and the whole thing just sounds very unstable to me right now. I know you feel sorry for the little girl, but probably the only time I have ever made BAD decisions regarding my life is when I felt sorry for someone, particularly kids. My son even has an evil kid in his life, but one who has a million reasons for sympathy, and I was saying how we should "be bigger" than the situation and invite this kid over to play. Thankfully, I regained my sanity long enough to remember - ever time I have done something like that on a personal basis for someone just because I feel sorry for them AFTER horrible behavior, it has always been a disaster... Be kind, but you don't have to risk your family again. Be kind from a distance. Its sorry she went thru this horrible experience, but YOU didn't cause it, and its not really your problem. But it could be your problem if this kid acts out in your life. Know what I mean?
I was nice today, and people were nice to me.
If you steer away from the nastiness, there are a few nice and encouraging posts in there.
you don't want ergonomic, but
if you would take the time to adjust, the Kinesis Classic is great. AND you can reprogram keys. just the difference in location of keys and key-depth has already helped my CTS a lot!
I think I found it, found multiple recipes with the same
exact ingredients so I figure this must be it.
ergonomic keyboards
Not only is it impossible to use, the salesperson was rude and difficult when I called for return instructions. Also, there was a money back guarantee on the website, but in small print "if refurbished, we cannot refund your money." And guess what, you don't know its refurbished until it arrives on your doorstep!! Needless to say, 350 bucks flushed down the toilet.
I recently ordered the "ergoflex" keyboard, and was wondering if anyone has tried this? It lets you rest each arm as far away as possible, which is what I need. I've been typing on two keyboards, one for the left, one for the right, and it just takes up too much space. I'm hoping this will help. To the poster below about keyboard testimonials, these could probably be secured to the end of your arm rests, and also on the web site they have separate arm rests that look real comfy you can adjust to your table top.

Ergonomic question
I have been workign as an MT for only a couple of months now, but I already am having pain in my arm. It started being sore yesterday and continues today. Is there anything I can do to help ease this discomfort and should I invest in an ergonomic keyboard. Thanks!
Ergonomic Keyboard
YES, YES, YES!!!
I purchased a refurbished SafeType keyboard because I started having tingling, numb wrists and hands and the difference.....WOW!! I told every MT I knew about the difference they make.....WHAT A GREAT INVESTMENT THAT WAS!!
I could tell the FIRST day of using it (after I got used to it) that my pain and tingling was GONE!! The keys are sideways and I thought it would take me forever to get used to it, but it didn't! I thought it was worth a try as a last resort in "ergonomic keyboards." I was using a split keyboard and I got used to the SafeType faster than I got used to the split keyboard when I started using it. I'm actually faster with the SafeType. They retail for around $300, but they sell refurbished ones for around half that. IT TRULY WAS THE BEST INVESTMENT I EVER MADE FOR TRANSCRIPTION!! If you haven't heard of them, check them out.... www.safetype.com, I think. THE MOUSE is GREAT, too! It's only around $80 new, but I lucked into getting a demo for about half that too!
GOOD LUCK!!
ergonomic advice
Anyone know of good websites or where to get advice about setting up your home office ergonomically correct. Sometimes I think I have my chair set at the right height, or everything just so, and try to stretch every once in a while, but I still end up stiff and I think maybe I could do better with it. Thanks all.
ergonomic questions
The pain was in the lower part my arm. It has subsided over the last couple of days. I TRULY appreciate all these suggestions. Along with this pain, I have also had the tingling in my wrists on occasion. I absolutely love my new job but I know my health has to come first. I will check out all your suggestions. Thanks!
Ergonomic keyboard!
Thanks for the greate website and the prices are so much better than I have seen. Have heard it takes a couple of weeks to get used the the Ergonomic keyboard, is this true? Is it worth buying, does it make a big difference? I want to buy one but want to make sure it will be worth it. Thanks!
Ergonomic keyboard!
Thanks, will get it. Do you recommend a certain one?
Ergonomic keyboard!
Wow, can give it a couple of days. Thanks!
Ergonomic 4000
I bought one this weekend, as a matter of fact. I wasn't a fan of the so-called multimedia/internet keyboards before, but I have to say I do like these shortcut button thingies. Circuit City has a web-only sale on it and it qualifies for free shipping I believe.

These are 49.99 minus 10.00 rebate at www.compusa

Ergonomic Keyboard
I have always used a split keyboard, however, just purchased the Microsoft 4000 and have found it a little difficult to adjust to. The keys and space bar are hard to press and I am running words together because I think they space but don't. Other than that I love the split style and could never use a regular keyboard again.

Ergonomic mouse?
I have a Microsoft split keyboard, that helps my wrists, but I'm noticing that when I use my mouse a lot (which sometimes is half of my day), my elbow and forearm are getting sore.
Has anyone had this problem with a mouse (looked it up, and it's called "mouse elbow" similar to tennis elbow). If so, what was/is your solution? Looking at new keyboard with a built in keypad, and/or a different mouse or something, and wondered what anyone else has done.
Thanks!
MS ergonomic keyboard
help! I have the MS ergonomics 4000 keyboard. My F7 key would not work at all yesterday and now the F5 and F9 will not work which I need to use for the company that I work for. my tech dept. did not seem to know what the heck is going on. Any suggestions welcomed! Thank you,
ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD
Probably about 10 or more years ago, started having same problem. Switched to ergonomic keyboard, and have been using ever since. I have a Microsoft, I think it is Microsoft Elite, or something like that. There is also a Microsoft 2000 available. Just check on the Internet for availability at discount computer stores, or try E-Bay.
Would definitely recommend!
Ergonomic Keyboard
I have been using a Microsoft keyboard that seems like forever (since 2002). It has survived spills and scrubbing when I clean it. The only problem is that I have worn off some of the letters on the keys. It has its advantages - keeps my son from using my computer because he is not that familiar with the keys.
Are you using an ergonomic keyboard, that may help some.

What is the best ergonomic keyboard?
I used to use a DataHand, but they are out of production now and I'm so disappointed. What is everyone else using?
Ergonomic Chair
A good chair is a MUST. If you're using one of your dining chairs, you're neck and lower back are going to start giving you painful lectures! I got my task chair years ago from Office Max - adjustable tilt seat, adjustable height back rest, height of chair itself adjusts of course. Best $200 I ever spent. You can probably find something similar that is used and reasonably priced in your neighborhood Craigslist listings. Good luck!
ergonomic keyboard ?
what part of the hand? I get pain in my wrists and wear wrist support, but I also know my ergonomic keyboard makes a big difference. I would say stretched, but not sure of what hand movements you could do, cause like i said mine is the wrist.
oh and anti-inflammatory round-the-clock. hope it gets better, it's not pleasant to work through :(
Do many of you use ergonomic keyboards?
a microsoft one I saw. I am just wondering if there is a adjustment period where it feels awkward or are any of you out there that just could not get used to them at all. I have been at this for many years, and I still have no hand/wrist problems. Could ya'll list the pros and cons. Thanks MTs!!! Have a good evening!

Goldtouch ergonomic keyboard
Check out ebay for keyboards. I use a Goldtouch, whic tents up in the middle, like a teepee. Got used to it real quick. Now it seems totally strange and uncomfortable to use a "regular" keyboard.
Yes, that is all I use. I attach a wireless ergonomic

Ergonomic Keyboard - My Experience
I use the Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard which is a split ergonomic style and I think it is great, but I had to get used to it by using it a lot and I could not resort to using the other keyboard while getting used to it, otherwise it made it more difficult. Once I got used to it, I was fine. Now if I have to type on a regular keyboard, the keys now seem too close together. I also find that keeping my keyboard (either one) low near my lap and my hands at a neutral extension so that my wrists are not flexed either up or down has kept me from incurring any injuries or syndromes (CTS) connected with our type of work. I bought a tray for keyboard that I can adjust in this way. I have been a paralegal in the past and I am currently an MT culminating in over 20 years of typing and my hands and wrists are still fine.
I have a split ergonomic keyboard
and LOVE it. It took a few days to get used to it, but now I don't know how I typed all those years on a straight keyboard. This is MUCH better.
IBM model M-15 split ergonomic
I bought one of these keyboards from www.clickykeyboards.com
Fully adjustable for any typing angles like Goldtouch, but much better key feel.
Priceless keyboard that I hope to use for next 20 years.
4000 Ergonomic Keyboard
I just purchased and using the Microsoft 4000 ergonomic keyboard and love it. It took a couple of days to get used to the keys. I have used other ergonomic keyboards, but this one is the best.
Microsoft 4000 ergonomic one...
Wonderful keyboard! I give it a 9/10.
MS Ergonomic Natural 4000...
I admit, it took me a few days to get used to where the keys are, but I bought it for my wrists. Two things: My wrists have quit burning and the keys are very soft touch. I love it. I got mine at an office store for 59 dollars. I guess not cheap, but it was worth it for me since I plan to type until my little fingers won't work anymore.
Microsoft 4400 Ergonomic- sm-
I like it alot because of the raised wrist rest (removable), which helps with wrist pain after typing 10 to 12 hours a day. It has been a blessing to me, but getting used to the split keyboard took about a week. Check it out.
MIcrosoft Natural Ergonomic
Best one I ever had. It has all the programmable shortcut buttons at the top for programs and/or webpages and is extremely comfortable. I used to have problems with my hands hurting a lot after a full day of working and now it is gone. It took about a week for me to get used to the feel of the split board, but now I can't stand using a regular one. I even take this one when I travel to my in-laws.
Try Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard
Hi, try Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. I don't know about the wireless ergo keyboard but I do know they are expensive than the wired ones. You could contact your local Microsoft hardware dealer.
