equipment words and pharmaceutical words? I hate to spend so much on books that can't be kept current. I found accessdata.fda.gov and rxlist.com in a post farther down and already have them book marked. TIA!

Stedmans Med $ Surgical Equip words, Path and Lab words, and Tessiers Surgical Word book (3rd
edition). I never buy drug books anymore. Waist of money in my opinion. New drugs come out so often, it's best to use the web.
only path.....only path....only path to the mountain
The good news about links...sm
"missing" on that site is that you can add more yourself. That appears to be the whole purpose of the site - to provide links to references (ergo MTReference) that one might need while working.
Anyone can find anything on the internet; you're right about that. But I'd prefer not to be worried so much about that and more worried about doing my job correctly with appropriate references and answers.
Don't register if you are not interested in the site. I, for one, appreciate that it is there.
Here are 2 good links for Lap Band forums. sm

Good for you! Few words of encouragement. SM
I quit 15 days ago and have not really had that hard a time. The first couple of days were rough but it hasn't been that bad since. I was going to use the patch but decided to quit cold turkey.
Just remember that the cravings only last a few minutes and are gone before you know it. Do something to distract yourself while they pass.
I have found this website to be helpful: www.quitnet.com It is free for a basic membership and they will send you a daily email showing how many hours of life you have saved, how much money you have saved and how many cigarettes you have not smoked. I have found it to be very motivating. Here is another helpful thing to keep handy: http://www.ash.org.uk/html/factsheets/html/fact11.html
Most importantly remeber NOPE (Not One Puff Ever). No matter what don't smoke.
Best of luck to you in your healthy new life!
Any advice on good oncology site (words/meds/etc)
Does anyone know of a good website to reference oncology, chemo/radiation drugs and all related material.
Gotta get the Stedman's Ortho & Rehab Words. Wheeless encylopedia is a good site to book

Don't buy Stedmans Path/Lab CD!
I'm SO mad at Stedman's! I finally decided to go electronic and bought a med/surg equip CD and a path/lab CD. No problems with the former, but the latter will not work and disables MS Word! And I'm not the only one, as you can Google it on the internet and others are having the same problems. Somehow it interacts wrongly with different virus/spam protectors and will start throwing pages and pages of licensing cleanup alerts into your task manager, disabling your word processing. I called tech support last Friday and they said they'd get back to me. I called them back Tuesday and they said they still hadn't figured it out. I called them today, still nothing, so I got mad and returned the stupid CD for the book. Six days of "trying to figure it out"???? He had said before they could install an unlicensed copy since the licensing was the problem, but then days later said they couldn't figure it out.
They also send you an invoice saying your payment is due by X date (with the return envelope and the space to fill in how much you are paying of the total) when you've already paid by credit card. They also charged almost $20 shipping for 4 CDs that weigh a few ounces. I'm NOT happy!
Path and Rad info...
Hi Becky. I know of a place hiring for rad and path, part time IC. Interested? -KD
At a crossroad and not sure which career path to take...
I have been doing MT work for over 5 years. I have to admit I have not made much money during that time, but really do enjoy being at home. I was offered a job yesterday doing what I used to do for over 16 years, which is graphic design. The job would be out of the house, Mon-Fri, 8 to 4:30. I like the thought of a decent hourly pay whether I am feeling productive or not, but then commuting 20+ miles one way with gas over $2 a gallon is a bit of a drawback. I just really am at a loss here. Anyone have any comments or suggestions? I will probably see if I can keep my MT job part-time for extra cash and also as backup incase something happens, as I will have a three month probation period. I know when I am in one of my very productive modes I can make more per hour than the job is offering, but when you add in my not so productive hours the outside job is offering more per hour. I am just not sure what to do. My husband is disabled and likes me to be home, but he told me to do what I feel is best. Thanks.
path line rate
Thank you for your speedy reply. Here's the situation - I had worked for this pathologist for 10 years (being paid a monthly rate) and the institution finally convinced him to use their outside transcription service. After six months, the "system" doesn't work - I think it has more to do with their inability to do the work. There is no other Transcriptionist who does pathology within 50 miles of me. They have told me my pay will be based on an all black character line (not counting spaces) and I am a bit apprehensive about a line rate covering what is involved with the work.

Good answer - thank you, sm.
You'll need a lab words book and maybe the Derm and Immunology Words..nm

Don't have time to look for more, but one time in school we had cheap glass bulb ornaments and we wrote our name and year on them with glue and then sprinkled with glitter. You could probably get bulbs/glitter at dollar store.
You might also want to go the dollar store and look for craft kits. I buy kits every year from a craft store and they usually make 6-12. If the tables in the room were in groups you could just take a paper plate and pour 1 kit out on each and they could share, or you could divide up the items into a baggie and make copies of the instructions.
You could take bagels (from the bakery outlet stores and cheap) and smear with peanut butter and then press in bird seed, attach some thread and hang on a tree near their classroom - unless you are wanting them to have something to take home. Can also use pine cones for this.
Buy some plain gingerbread man cookies and tubes of frosting and sprinkles and let them decorate them.
Do you have any links?

If you’re going to test people through actual dictation, I recommend that you make sure they all transcribe one report by the hardest dictator you have. If they can do that, then they’ll have no problem doing anyone else you have.

As an MTSO, you should never give the "answer", but the way you found it, i.e., the links. This way they will 1. learn how to find it themselves and 2. stop bothering you. It does work, even though I must say that every day is a learning process in this field.
Provide me with the links. NM

FYI on links from message boards
Please be careful when opening links from anyone on the MT boards. I had a word question and posted it to XXXXX (this is the board that the company I work for prefers us to use). Instead of answering my question, someone posted to look at the link that they listed. This link had the answer to my question, but it also transmitted spyware/problem to my computer. Just a warning, especially for new MTs - I had to learn the hard way - and am going back to my books instead of searching the internet or message boards for answers to my questions.
