Hi there. Does anyone know how to delete words from Word 2000 that I haven't added. They have words like wit in there and I would like to access their dictionary and get rid of some of them as I make common errors of some words. Thanks for any help.

Anyone out there able to give me step-by-step instructions on how to enter the dictionary for MS Word to remove a word I entered incorrectly? I'd appreciate any help at all. I know this can be done, because I did it myself years ago, but cannot remember how I did it. TIA.

Some single words, but mostly 2-3 word phrases.
I have a few full sentences, too, but with so many different doctors, I tend to stick to the more commonly used short phrases, and build sentences & paragraphs from those.

Many words are formed with a base word with a prefix or a sm
suffix or both and are not picked up in spell check. Arousable is a word formed by combining arouse with the suffix -able and in this case the E is dropped and the able is added. This has been going on for a long time and like the above poster says, many of these forms are not in spell check.

When is a word only 5 characters. I thought 7-10 was an average and 10 words a line? nm

Have you heard this word on CNN? NO! It is an obscenity, and there are plenty of awful words SM
You can search and find just about anything in print if you look hard enough. No newscaster on CNN would utter this filth. Obscenities are not allowed on MT Stars and this word is obscene. Your example is flawed. I have no problem hearing and typing words related to the human body when spoken by a physician to document a patient's care. That is a far cry from this nasty little "headline." NO ONE should defend this racial epithet and no one needs this little lesson in netiquette. Shame on you and OP if you are not the same one.

That's what I would do. At the point where the doctor said, "delete this," I'd type those words in and turn it in for line count, and then I'd start another report for the next one.

Deleting files from FTP server

The company I work for uses an FTP server. I am supposed to delete the files I pull after I upload them so another MT wont do them. No matter what I try I cannot get the files to delete. When I right click on them, there is no option to delete in the drop-down. I have also tried highlighting the file(s) and pressing delete on my computer. Neither one of these works. These are the 2 ways my QA said to do it, but it just wont work. Any suggestions?

Since I downloaded Windows SP3 I am unable to delete my bookmarks, just get a message that indicates bookmark error, failure to delete. Searched Google but no good help. Any ideas anyone?

Deleting Bytescribe wav files (just recycle bin?)

Not much action on the Tech Board so I'm pasting my question here: Bytescribe people told me that once you delete the wav files (Options/Clear File History), it only deletes them from the player but not from your hard drive. I did a search for .wav files on my computer but none of those BS wav files come up, other than in the recycle bin. Is that the only place they would wind up after deleting them from the player then and am I done with them for good at the Recycle Bin? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help with this. (I still cannot believe the tech did not know where the files wound up.)

Microsoft Works - deleting template
Can anyone tell me how to delete a template in Microsoft Works. I have tried to drag it to the trash, I have looked in file after file and cannot seem to locate it within a file. Any help with this would be appreciated! I have a feeling that it is in a file within a file or something but just don't know where else to look for it.

Help w/ Edit Script & deleting MS Works

Sorry, I accidently posted this on the company board first. So please don't hate me.

I have done everything I can think of to get MS Works off my computer. It has been uninstalled, registries have been cleared and I ran a search to see if anything was left. Nothing left. But everytime I try to download EditScript it says it is still detecting it! Where could it be? Where is it finding it! I am so frustrated. If you have ANY idea of what to do please let me know!

Express Scribe auto deleting 0 second..
My Express Scribe is auto deleting voice file that are 0 seconds long. I need to still keep track of those. Anyone know how to make it stop doing that?

deleting cookies-go to TOOLS, internet options

Once you get to internet options from TOOLS at the top of your browser, you have a radio button to delete cookies, one to delete history, one to delete online files and then offline files - that is how you delete the cookies AND the cache/memory/history.

An Asian person once corrected my brother on this point. I'd go with Asian rather than risk being offensive.

It has been my observation that once downloaded and set up it runs automatically if spellchecker is part of your package- I did not have to "add" only download - best way to tell is type in a medical word - also - start, programs and find stedmans for your tab to select and open for searchs in dictionary itself- you can keep it minimized.

Callus is a noun

Callous is an adjective - whether you're using it to describe a lesion on your foot or the way a person acts. Actually, the latter use originated from the medical use because a callous lesion is "hard and rough around the edges" like some people can be.

Click Dictionaries.

Select the dictionary you want to edit. Make sure you do not clear its check box.

Click Edit.

Add, delete, or edit the words in the custom dictionary.
If you're typing words, press ENTER after each word to put it on a separate line.

When you finish editing, click Save on the Standard toolbar.

On the File menu, click Close

Hey thanks guys for the suggestions. I am going to be doing transcription at home for they physician I work for and am using Word perfect 12. It has a spell check on it but was looking for a medical spell check I could download and use along with a general spell check.

Not only did I check the dictionary...

Several, in fact, Dorland's, Stedman's, Stedman's Ophthalmology Word Book, Google (please notice I said it sounds like "ameliorectomy"...so I could have searched all day...) Looked up samples of ophthalmology reports and checked with my fellow quality auditors. I came to this board to use it as it was meant to be used...not about what's for dinner, what's your favorite TV show, etc... Honey, I have been an MT for 30 years, a quality auditor for 10 years and have probably forgotten more medical terminology than you will ever know. Please keep your venom to yourself.

To those of you who tried to help me, I sincerely appreciate it! It did get an answer...it was Muellerectomy.

This is why every MT should own a medical dictionary. NM

medical dictionary
I loaded Stedman's and it did not automatically load into my Word dictionary. Can anyone help me out?

can you not go into the dictionary and delte some--sm
you no longer use? I did this a few weeks ago and found a lot that I no longer needed.

Custom dictionary
I do not know what operating system you are using. I use XP and my custom dictionary is located as - C:DocumentsandSettingsOwnerApplicationDataMicrosoftProofCUSTOM.DIC

All of the words that I have added to my dictionary over the past couple of years are stored here. You should be able to copy the words and paste them in your new custom dictionary.

I hope that I am explaining this correctly.

As a note, I have even put a shortcut to my custom dictionary words on my desktop for easy access.

Edit Dictionary
Click on Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar. On the Custom Dictionary window, select CUSTOM.DIC then click Dictionaries (to the right). When Custom Dictionary window opens, click Edit. Find the word you added and delete it. Save the file.

what kind of dictionary are you using? I found-sm
in The American Heritage College Dictionary. As mentioned below, the onelook.com site is very helpful
