Thanks. My mind just blanked and I couldn't remember. It seems like it has changed so often over the years!

Okay, I found a phone number on my statement for thier "Premier" card so I called that number. I asked where the rep was located and she tole me Buffulo, NY and her name was Vivian. I got the answer to my question and then told her I had initially called and got hold of a center in the Phillipines but I refused to talk to them. I asked how I could go about lodging a complaint about the company offshoring. She said she could forward the complaint for me but it probably wouldn't do any good. I told her it would do some good if more people did as I was doing and also lodged complaints about offshoring. I explained that in my profession offshoring a a huge problem and that it was only a matter of time before SHE lost her job to offshoring also. I told her to include in my complaint that her bosses worked for me and if I, and others like me, refused to use their services, her boss and the company's management would be looking for new jobs. Vivian told me they have call centers all over the world and I just lucked out using the :"Premier" phone number because I do not have a "Premier" card. She said in the future if I want to get a rep in the US, I will probably have to hang-up and call back, several times maybe, until I got hold of a US rep. (Yeah, right, I am calling the Premier number first thing). But, at least I know what it might take to get a US rep.
I realise even the offshore people are just looking to make a living but what about all the US citizens trying to make a living, only to see their jobs go offshore? And I agree that it is "managament" that is responsible for this, but until we stand up for ourselve, no one else will. Management works for us!! Just like the managment of the MTSOs and even the Nationals have no job without us. It it too easy to say, "Well, just this one time, I will use the foreign call center, One time won't make a difference." But it is that one time, added to your one time and added to her one time, added to my one time and on and on, that WILL make a difference. It is too easy to sit back and wait for someone else to solve the problem. That attitude will get us nowhere but out of work or working for slave wages.
Date? Isn't that where....sm
a guy asks a gal out, and they go to the movies, maybe dinner, or something fun? I haven't been on one of those in several months now.
As far as internet dating goes - have you tried it? I've met more decent guys through the internet over the past 5 years than I have at church, in the grocery store, through neighbors, etc. Of course you have to use common sense and if you smell a rat then run.... but often times you can figure out who the jerk or married person pretending to be single is through some chatting on-line before you even talk on the phone. Two guys I met on-line are still good friends and I hooked up 1 with a gal that I knew that they were much more compatible and they've been dating now for 5 months.
Just went on a date!
Anyone have any success with eharmony.com? It's not a good thing when you get to the stop light and bust up laughing over what you just went through!
well now you date yourself and ME..LOL..sm
Well, I'm old enough to be your oldest sibling or perhaps even your parent *L*
I VOTED FOR MONDALE AND FERRARO - it was my first election that I chose to vote in and I think it was 1972. (I didn't vote when I first turned 18). GIRL POWER!!!! YEAH!!
LOL, no, I think you need a date. LOL. nm
.
Actually, the date is right there on the
why is it MOST important to you what I do?
You RULE!
What a win-win situation!
I wish the animal shelters took better care of our pets (since they are a part of the government and all). I don't know why those shelters smell so bad; the shelter in my county stinks so bad that you are constantly aware of it. Taking care of displaced or hurt animals should be a big part of their job, and they could take measures to ensure the animals don't get sick. I understand all about their being overworked, but then someone should report to the higher ups what is needed, and then there should be no problem meeting those needs.
In a neighboring county where I live, the public went toe-to-toe with the director over the animal division; demanding answers about the operations and procedures. (That director said he needed a new building, but the public thought the changes should be made in their operations and procedures.
When I want a dog, I always adopt (so far over the years I've adopted 2 beagles).
Nice post!
First rule of being an MT
That's what I was taught. Everyone is in the same boat and has to take the bad with the good. Refusing to do the hard stuff makes it worse for the other MTs on that account, and they will not appreciate it. Until the problem doctors go poof and disappear, nobody has the right to say they can shove all the bad jobs onto the next MT because THEY are here to make money (everyone is, and someone has to type it). And there is such a thing as Karma - one day you might log on to find ALL the work is the dictator you dread, because all the MTs that came on before you felt entitled to leave the crap work for YOU. You really won't make any money on that shift, as opposed to doing a few bad jobs each shift. So type them as you get them, like the rest of us.
If everyone got together and went to management about the problem guy, that's one thing (and yes, we all feel this way about at least one doctor). Deciding you don't have to do it because you don't want to is quite another, and often grounds for disciplinary action. Work is often just that, hard work, and with time and practice it becomes easier. Nobody promised you a rose garden, challenges are what this job entails.
MY first rule, before being MT. is I have to
x
word for date
I use "da" and then change it in the Autocorrect every day. This works for when you're not using today's date.
eww, why on earth would you want to date.
And chances are you will find the person boring, annoying or unappealing. I don't see why people date on those sites, its so set up. Its better to meet by chance, more natural and less pressure. I'm in my early 30s and I see my friends either divorced or miserable in their marriages, same with my family. It gets old real fast, why not have something to look forward to, and use this time to figure out who you are, your passions, and the right person will be drawn to you to complement you, rather than being forced together because you feel like you should be in a couple. At this point I have my own life and forcing a relationship into it would make me irritable and obligated...BUT if in the process of living my life I happen upon someone who fits in there without me knowing it...meaning I can stand him there...well that would be a big bonus. No need for it, or want..been there done that...i'm old enough to know I want it on certain terms. In the meantime, i'll just hug my dog and cat way too much.
Date? Isn't that where a guy takes you out
And expects to get sex afterward? If you don't cooperate, that's the last time you will ever see him. No thanks-- my furry critters are a lot more loving and faithful and are not the least bit selfish.
Date question
Hello everyone. I know this a dumb question, but I have searched and I cannot find this answer. Can you please tell me when a doctor gives a date in the body of a report do you automatically write the year as well. For instance.... He was last seen on January 19. Would you type the year too? I have always typed the year if I am 100% sure of the year the doctor is referring to. I believe I was told to add it for clarity, and I believe that is the way I was taught in school, but I cannot find it referenced, and I had someone ask me about it.
Not since today. (what's the date where you are?)
Time traveler, are we?
:oD
LOL! We sure date ourselves when we admit we know
s
What is the date of this article?
I looked all over this article and could not find a date of publication. Everything vaguely says "later this year.' Which year? The only thing I could find on the entire page was 04/08/02 under the author's byline, and at the very bottom of the page, a copyright of 1995-2002. When you click on the link to discuss the article in the forums, the new page never loads. If you look up all other articles by this author, they are all dated 2000-2002.
I think you are getting upset over nothing. Call Time Warner directly and ask them what their plans are.
All I can say is what is written on my up-to-date
social security forms and the fact I just talked with them in January. I certainly asked the question, again, if money withheld when I turn full retirement next year and again told no, full benefits then. Like I told Doxie, just call social security and check with them.
The first rule of being self-employed is that
you set your own line rate. However, we all know that NONE of the MTSOs hiring IC MTs allow us to set our own rate. They "offer" a rate, and we accept if it's OK.
I worked for a real cheapo doctor when I first started out. He paid hourly and kept riding my backside to type faster because he only wanted to pay for the actual time dictated instead of the time it took to transcribe. More than once I told him that it takes an average of 3:1 typing to talking ratio to get it done. It worked out to be $.03 per line. I dropped him like a bad habit. He bounced through a few other transcriptionists who all quit on him before he wound up having to pay to outsource to a service.
as a general rule...
I use an "f" after any abbreviation that I want to expand. I just use the standard abbreviation plus f, so I do not forget what they are. My ShortHand is full of things like this.
ex: cbcf tcpf tshf
Works for me!
I have been an MT for 33 years and the rule has always been...sm
to use mg when preceeded by a number.
and there are so many exceptions to all those rule! lol
that's the english language for ya! I really don't know.
My rule for semicolons
is that if the two statements support each other and each statement could be a separate sentence, I use a semicolon. Example: He underwent an ultrasound in March 1999; AT THAT time he was noted to have BPH. The sentence you asked about should be done like 'NM'says: He underwent an ultrasound in March 1999, at which time he was noted to have BPH.
Thought that was already a rule
Hmm...I thought that that was already in effect, that no US Govt transcription contracts could go overseas/be outsourced - at least the V.A. has that standard in place...

are you not interested in keeping up to date
If not, then the Stedman's Work At Home is not for you. If on the other hand, you are interested in staying abreast of new technology and updates to words, then it is worth the money. For example, you may not be aware than LLW updated it's Stedman Spellcheck and the words in it are spelled more accurately than the words in the word books published before mid 2004. You may find errors in Stedman books that you will not find in the Work At Home package. You also get to ask about words you cannot document. I have used this feature and gotten an answer within an hour.
Very useful resource for the low price.
School Start Date
Here in NYS the kids don't go back until after Labor Day, which is usually around September 7th of so. Of course, we get out a lot later than those in the South. School doesn't let out until the end of June.
Is your antivirus program up to date
and a really good one because I'm thinking it sounds like you have a virus. I got a virus on my computer even though I had a Norton antivirus program running on it. There are so many new viruses that come out all the time it's hard for the antivirus programs to keep up with them. Maybe you should install a different antivirus programs/sypware CD than the one on your computer. Just a thought
Maybe a letter stating that on such and such date - sm
your rates will be increased to XYZ. Then maybe institute a % discount if they pay in 5-10 days if you don't already do that, kind of lessen the sting (just make sure you don't make less if they do this). If not a letter than maybe on your next invoice. Good luck.
Read the date wrong, BUT STILL
ON HERE TOO LONG.
The above is one of the most eloquent posts to date -sm
about the state of affairs in the Healthcare industry and the MT branch of it. You're right about lobbyists, and I thin we MTs need some right about now. Back in the beginning of AAMT, we all naiively bought into their organization, thinking that support, lobbying, and maybe improvement in pay & working conditions (i.e., not having to work a 12-hour day in order to make 8 hours' pay, and having benefits and health insurance like other Americans) were going to be one of the benefits. Boy, were we ever wrong. AAMT turned out to be right there in bed with all the shady CEOs of national companies, and top administrators of the hospitals, that only cared about one thing. MONEY, and lots of it. (For themselves, of course.) Other companies and industries in this country have been called out on poor treatment of workers (Wal-Mart) and customer fraud (Enron), and both of those evils exist in the MT business and even many parts of healthcare as a whole. We already know we're getting the short end of the stick wage-and-compensation-wise. And maybe now it's time for every MD & hospital in this country to get a chance to either FIND OUT (if they don't know their patient information is leaving the U.S.) or to be OUTED (if they do know it, but don't tell their patients, MDs, etc.) Above all those of us whose medical records are being written to and stored in an electronic medical record should not only have the right to KNOW if our records leave the U.S., but we should also have the right to say "NO, not MY records."
They are correct. They issue pay on that date.
If they offer direct deposit and you wish to use that, then you can receive your pay that day.
It is the same as an inhouse company having paper checks available on payday -- you will have to pick it up. If you don't work that day, don't drive into work until the next day, you won't receive your pay until the next day. However, they "paid" you on time as they had the checks ready.
I think too many people assume too much about payroll laws and absence of language regarding how they receive their pay.
Date format 01/03/2007 or 01/03/07 or
1/3/07 or 1/3/2007? If it's in the AAMT BOS, I can't find it. I looked under dates, months, years. I work on various accounts with varied preferences but curious if there is a recognized standard as to the preceding zeroes in above examples or shortening a year, e.g., /07 from /2007.
How can this be? First date supposed to be mid May, NOT July?
Found nothing on IRS.gov site for a schedule, either.
Meditech shortcut for date (sm)
Could someone who knows Meditech tell me how to use the short cuts. No one ever taught me - just basics of typing - and I know there are things that can help. thank you for your help.
Check the date of my post
How could I have been responding to you if my post was the day BEFORE your post? The software also marked it as being in response to Karen's.
Tons of up-to-date resources;) sm
Make sure you have all the resources you need that will cover a lot of specialties, especially for ops. I wouldn't worry too much. You will basically just be learning more words. Just have the resources you need for quick finds to help you pick up speed. I'm sure you'll do fine!
Can you email me the name of the company you are starting with? Even though I've been in this business for over 15 years, I don't have the "recent" acute care experience most companies are requesting. However, I do have at least 10 years in the past. Thanks!
I was always told as a general rule
it was double. Most of the time, however, I think it is slightly over that.
Rule Books and AAMT
AAMT sure brought this profession to the forefront. However, when they started publishing their own Bible (BOS) there are a lot of grammatical errors in there. Also, the styles they use are not accepted in this part of the country and will be considered "errors" by the client, hospital or clinician who do not want their reports set up in this manner. It is wrong to test people on a style that is not accepted in their part of the country. You are only forcing people to learn a "new style" which the facility in your area will consider completely wrong. Then the private company will comply with that particular hospital and change the set-up. Sadly, the person who took the test and did not use the BOS has a lousy score and is not considered for the job although s/he meets the set-up criteria for hospitals in the area where they live. Go figure, spend all that money for the book, or just test and get 100 per cent and then study the style of the facility who is paying for the work and then be 100 per cent right. Don't judge all tests by style, wait and see what the hospital is paying you wants for the style. You are putting the cart before the horse. Been in long enough to know that the BOS is absolutely not the "Bible" and the testing companies should take this into consideration. You could study this book until you're blind and then have to "unlearn" it to comply with the paying $$$ facility who is the ultimate "boss" of how the work will be turned in and accepted. Kabish? If I turn in a discharge summary in my local hospital according to the BOS style, I would be considered a total idiot. If I used the local hospital style for testing nationally, I would probably rate a 65% on what the hospital would consider 100% correct for style and grammar. Can't win.
It's the AAMT new BOS rule on numbers.

you two are the exception to the mommy rule(sm)
Most MT mommies got into this business solely for the purpose of staying at home and making a little extra cash on the side. They try to juggle the kids and MT and the diaper changes always come before that STAT report. And, yeah, I know what I'm talking about because I used to work in the hospital and that was always the way with the at-home mommy MTs. There was always an excuse as to why they couldn't do this or couldn't do that.
Well, my husband and I rule the menu here.
We're sure not going to let the kids do it, otherwise it would be pizza, tacos, and hot dogs daily and everyone would keel over from clogged arteries at the age of 30! Beside, like Kikki said, it's not good to let the kids call the shots. That's why the good Lord made parents!
No one said the kids should rule the menu
But if you love your kids then you understand that they are people too, with their own tastebuds. Just because they might have a suggestion doesn't automatically make it JUNK. Just different.
Trust me, my kids know who the boss is. Geez!!!!!
My rule of thumb is a $100 minimum
Of course, closer relatives and friends receive more, but always at least $100 for graduations, wedding gifts, etc. when someone is an acquaintance.
General rule is 3-5% a year. sm
If you currently get 8 cpl, ask for a raise up to 8.25 or 8.5 cpl, that almost covers cost of living and inflation.
Generic numbers here to show the math based on the 8 cpl with the raises:
200 lph at 8.00 cpl = $16 hourly/$33,280 yearly
200 lph at 8.25 cpl = $16.50 hourly/$34,320 yearly
200 lph at 8.50 cpl = $17.00 hourly/$35,360 yearly
When you ask for a raise, provide them with verifiable data to prove you DESERVE a raise. Say you are 99% accurate, remind them. If you type 250 lph or more, remind them. If you work OT on days off, remind them. If you come at them with your homework done and good reason to give you more, they will be more apt to say yes. (I have never been turned down for a raise, once even got more than I actually was looking for because I didn't specify how much of a raise I was wanting.)
Please cite the HIPAA rule. Thanks

The HIPAA Privacy Rule...(sm)
...requires a covered entity to make "reasonable efforts to limit use, disclosure of, and requests for PHI to the minimum necessary to accomplish the intended purpose." The only AHA-approved HIPAA training program, HIPAA Academy, specifically states in its training materials that HIPAA intends that personal information be limited to document headers unless absolutely required I will quote page 4-56:
"In practice, we expect the minimum-necessary requirement to lead to compartmentalization of the medical record so that one portion of the record (the body of the report) may be readily disclosed for one purpose without compromising the privacy of the entire record."
By limiting PHI to headers, reports can easily be redacted of personal information; when the PHI is scattered throughout the reports, this information cannot be redacted.
First rule of computers: Whenever anything goes wrong...
....reboot!
That will take care of about 95% of problems.
If you have two identical toolbars, then you may need to go to View, then Toolbars, and then Customize (way down at the bottom of the list). On the Toolbars tab, see what is checked.
If both Standard and Formatting are checked, this is where you may have your duplicate. Try unchecking either one of those and see if that puts your toolbar back the way you want it.
If that doesn't work, come back and we'll try again!
My company has a 2-minute rule
We are supposed to spend around 2 minutes looking for something. If we can't find anything, we blank it; my boss says that's what they pay their QA for.
I like your company...good rule/sm
Some places make you feel like if you don't search and search then you are inadequate. But I don't get paid to research, I get paid to type. I will research a reasonable amount of time and that is it.
