MTs NEED TO UNITE
I would like to plant this seed with the hope that American medical transcriptionists grab the reins.  If you have NEVER felt unappreciated, underpaid, misunderstood, disrespected, ignored, or taken advantage of as a medical transcriptionist, please disregard the rest of this message.  If you feel that you are a skilled tradesperson, have and use knowledge that has taken years to acquire, if you have a sincere aversion to being referred to as a typist or clerical staff, if you feel that our professional organization has dropped the ball as far as looking out for our best interest in this business, then let's talk.  What about a union for medical transcriptionists?  I'm not kidding.  Various skilled trades have unions all over the country, different sectors but the same fundamental bylaws and ethical regulations, etc.  I'm outraged to see the pittance that global services "offer" MTs.  I am even more outraged to see what the going rate is for editing.  We somehow, some way need to join forces and get away from productivity pay and become salaried professionals.  A critical aspect of our new "MT utopia" would be people who have done this job, have actually pounded the keys, pass judgment on quality.  There are so many schools of thought out there, it's insane.  There's totally verbatim (no such thing), there's as close to verbatim as possible (realistic), and then there's my-way-or-the-highway style (degreed egotists pointing fingers when they don't have the first clue).  For a moment give this some thought.  Should we let every institution, office, clinic, and MD tell us how to do our job?  Would a plumber let his client tell him what kind of pipe dope to use, what type of pipe wrench must be used in their remodel job?  Do we tell lawyers what case to cite in his argument?  How about MDs?  Are we able to make demands of any professional and actually dictate what they do and how they do it?  All we ask is that it be done, in a timely manner, and be done correctly.  I rest my case.  We need to somehow lessen the number of hoops we are made to jump through.  Our profession needs to raise the bar and grow as a skilled trade.  We need to demand the respect we deserve; and, perhaps most importantly, we need to stop selling ourselves short for fear of outsourcing.  In fact, if we all took a nice long hiatus and let those of little faith outsource everything, all we would have to do is pick up the pieces and revamp the MT environment in this country and make it brand new.  It would shine and run like a well-oiled machine.  Come on, people, we have to stop clunking along.  Any ideas on how to make this happen?  That's what I'm looking for.  Thanks.

MTs of the World, Unite!
That is exactly the slogan I used a few years ago for my Yahoo! group. Nobody ever joined because, being an MT, I never had time to promote the group. Who says American workers aren't bitter? Let the establishment see just a small taste of the interest in communism that was rampant in America in the first half of the 20th century and see if they don't make some changes! The New Deal was just a lame attempt to abort revolution. When the SS benefits run out in a few years, we will be right back to square one. Threaten them with revolution and they will make some changes. History proves it.
Let's start with a blog to unite
or is there one already?
I did not start this to divide us..It was to unite us

I am in the beginning stages of this fight..Whether HIPAA is a fighting point or not I am not yet sure..It was a thought...I am researching more on Homeland Security...HIPAA and this new electronic medical record thing that people have been speaking about...While I research..All I am asking for is two things one is if you are willing to go forth with this with me...I blind copy mass emails so NO ONE will get your emaill address... And two give me ideas and guidance...If when the research is done and it doesn't look like it will fly what have you lost,,,nothing..What have I lost a lot of time and energy but at least I gain knowledge...Lets not fight amongst ourselves that was not the idea...

I need help from the cat lovers out there!

My mother has a cat that sprays horribly bad. (yes it's fixed and it's a female). It was a stray that adopted my mom. She has a couple other cats, one of which would fight with but that cat has since passed. We hoped that since that stress was gone it would stop. it hasn't.  Been to the vet, no infection. He suggested it could just be a behavioral problem.  How do you figure out if it actually is behavioral? Can't find a direct link between a particular action and her spraying and it's not usually in the same spot. She's not a big 'lover' and when she's through with you, she let's you know so we don't think it's an attention thing. any advice or websites would be greatly appreciated. any web sites I've found haven't told me how to figure out what would be causing this 'behavioral' problem or natural remedies.

: My sister does animal rescue and transport, and also owns and operates a pet sitting business which has been nominated for Fox Philly's Hot List!

: If you have time, please vote for Sniffles and Friends on the Fox Philly Hot List on this link.

: If she wins, it's a great free advertisement for her pet sitting service that networks with rescue, fostering, and transport services for abandoned and neglected animals all over the East Coast.

: Thanks so much for your help!

tip for banana bread lovers. sm
I just disovered (thru a friend) that very ripe bananas can be frozen (in their skin) no freezer bag required to make banana bread on a future date.  I tried this, and it does work!  It is great!.  I love making banana bread for my family, but find that many times, the bananas are ripening too quick for my busy schedule.

So you bird lovers-name some of your favorite
When i got home, my parrot would ask me "being a good bird?" (as though since I had been gone, I may have been naughty).

My next favorite was when he got something especially good to eat, he would say "mmm, yum-yum!". We share spaghettis noodles and race either to the middle!

fumble fingers for music lovers

When I get like this, the only cure is to push the keyboard aside and pretend the tray is a piano and then listen to a fast piano piece and try to "play" it on the keyboard tray.  (Obviously, I don't own a piano--yet.)  This warms up my fingers and wrists, relaxes me, brings me joy if it is a favorite piece of music, and then when I type again it is usually more accurate and my speed is up.  Sounds crazy but it works for me!  Only takes about 3 minutes.

Another trick my piano teacher taught me when I was a kid was to practice the difficult parts with gloves on (yeh, that long ago).  Then when I took off the gloves, I could play it better.  This might work for the computer keyboard as well.  You could use Playtex gloves perhaps.

For saurkraut lovers, put apples, onions and pork chops in crock pot.
Wonderful meal. Some fresh rye bread with butter. Yummie.
Its not the animal lovers fault about abortion and abuse of innocent children, it's the fault...
of our government to allow such a law. The innocent dogs being killed over the so-called rabies roundup vs. shortage of "beef" have no government to help protect their rights to live so the humans have to step in and protect their rights and the humans should protect the human's rights as well to live, but when a government passes laws, etc., you can only fault the government; afterall, they have the final decision.
