thanks, i'll check into that--my only concern is that the platform I work from for another job pulls the sound file into windows media so I'm just hoping using express scribe doesn't screw it up....I've been told of express scribe before, guess I'd better give it a look.. Thanks again~!

conflict of keyboard commands

Hi there, I would really appreciate some help here...I am transcribing on a word document, the sound file has been e-mailed to me, I am listening to the dictation in Windows Media Player.  I don't have my footpedal working with this---but am just trying to use keyboard commands and when I do, the keyboard commands are being utilized by the word program.  In other words, play/pause is CNTL P and when I do that, I get the print window.  Is there a way to alleviate this conflict?  They sent me a sound file player but Windows Media keeps overriding it and there is too much dumb in me tech wise to figure out how to use the other sound file player.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.  I just get a teeny bit of this guy's work but it's a big pain in my big behind to keep grabbing the mouse and stopping/starting etc.....thanks in advance!!!

No conflict of interest. sm
Obviously he is her client, and if she's not typing for him on her time with the company you both work for, there is no conflict of interest.

She is free to type for whomever she wants as long as it is not on company time.

Whatever is going on with the doctor and the company you work for are separate issues.

Hope this helps!
Yes, definite conflict of interest there.
Speak to your manager and let him/her handle it.
Does Shorthand conflict with AutoCorrect?
Question for you all...I'm using ShortHand and also AutoCorrect but I've noticed something weird happening with Shorthand.  If I have a sentence in Shorthand and it expands in my document, sometimes it misspells a word in the sentence by leaving out one letter or it smushes 2 of the words together in the sentence, even thought it's not like that in the Shorthand entry.  Any ideas why this could be happening??  The only thing I can think of is maybe Shorthand is conflicting with AutoCorrect.  Should I not run the 2 programs together?  Any help is greatly appreciated as this is really slowing me down.  THANKS
express scribe conflict?

I am computer challenged so please don't laugh, but I am not sure.  If I download express scribe for myself, will that conflict with the company software that I am using?  I myself can't see how it would, because they wouldn't be used at the same time, but then again, I am not sure.

Conflict with LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 file and firewall?

I installed the Comodo firewall on my computer and it seems to be working fine except one very annoying problem.  For some reason, I will open a program, ie, DocQscribe, Instant Messenger, etc., and my firewall keeps asking whether to allow LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 to run, I click yes but then when I open the program again for some reason this stupid file is trying to link to another part of the program I guess and I get the same window asking for permission to allow it.  Here's the kicker, a lot of the time it will totally lock up my system and I will have to reboot. I called Stedman's tech and they really didn't know what to do but he had me go into Administrative Tools and turn off a Stedman's License file but still this crazy Cleanup.0001 keeps trying to run because my firewall is still detecting it.  Has anyone else had this problem? I did a Google search and found a link to one other MT who had a problem with this file and Zone Alarm but there was not really a solution offered.  The firewall I am using is Comodo.

c-phone commands
my foot pedal died and i am needing to do transcription using the phone's numerical keypad commands all weekend (oh joy) until my new foot pedal gets expressed to me next week. does anyone have a list of commands to work using the keypad only? so far, i know 1 is stop, 4 is rewind, 4 is play, 6 is fast forward, 7 is close job, ## is job header info. i can't remember how to speed up the dictator's speed and slow it down, and those other handy dandy commands. any help is MUCH appreciated.

You need two commands for fields.
You need to add the End command after each Ctrl + F or all your text after the field will be inside the field when you expand it.
C-phone commands

I got a C-phone manual (PDF) online, but it doesn't have any info as to key pad strokes to use to call into a system. Do you have that info that you could share? I'm getting desperate!

Thanks for explaining commands
Thanks for explaining how I would put a command together.  I did purchase Cheryl and Jon's Word Command glossary by periodtocomma and commatoperiod was not in it.  So I will be creating a lot of my own commands.  If you have anymore commands that are like the one you just explained to me or know where I can from some I would really appreciate it you could tell me where to find them.  I am trying to use my keyboard more and not that MOUSE!  I need to speed up!!!  Thanks
Correcting commands in Dragon

Good Morning Ladies and Gents:

I am a reasonably expert user of Dragon, having used it for about four years. I recently bought a new computer, and put Dragon 7.30 on it. I got the new XP 64 bit. Wow, what a dream for the Dragon.

However, while I had no problem with this with my previous computer, with this one it will not follow the command "new line" when I want the cursur to drop down to the beginning of the next line.

It keeps typing the word "united." It will however follow the command "new paragraph." When I ask it to correct "united," it gives me options, none of which are the one I want.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

John

Shortcuts for commands and macros

>Anyone know if InstanText can handle "code" (like WordVBA >macros) in the Expanders like SH8 can?

Instant Text lets you add commands and macro keyboard shortcuts into a glossary entry. You can use easy-to-type short forms for these entries that execute a command or a macro.

These command and macro entries are also very much used for editing.  See post below.

You can run F keys and macros with IT. Look at Commands
in the manual or help file.
I've never seen any sound bar key commands beyond ...

volume down, Alt+Shift+Down Arrow  and I'd guess the up arrow to increase volume. I have a microsoft ergo keyboard with volume up and down keys ... so I usually keep my "volume" at max and just tone it down ... Personally, I'd love a key command to "jump forward" for my endlessly pausing dictators (and a  "jump back" for when I overshoot their FINALLY figuring out what they want to say .... I'm watching your post in hope that someone knows something....

Using Instant Text Commands?

Could someone explain to me how to create a command/macro in Instant Text for changing a period to a comma and uncap the next letter in a sentence?  Please do not high tech words because that just confuses me. Lol

If anyone knows of any other command/macros that can be used in Instant Text to help with improving line counts I would greatly appreciate hearing about them.

Yes, I do know about the the forum at textware and productivity talk but they are so high techy over there that I am lost.

Thanks a bunch

Instant Text commands

To take your example, you can copy the following entry into the Add window of your glossary (it is usually good to have a separate command glossary that you include wherever needed):
{command}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Shift Left}{Delete},{Space}{Shift Right}{Shift F3}_

The short form could be something easy to remember like periodtocomma (when you use marker keys to expand, you don't have to type the whole short form, you can type petco, percom, ...).

The commands are word-processor dependent. This should work for MSWord. To make it work your cursor needs to be right in front of the capitalized word, and with this entry I assume you have 2 spaces after the period. It is easy to adapt the entry if you only have 1 space after a period. Just delete one {Shift Left}

You can email me if you need further help.

PS Below is a link to Cheryl's site. She has created and sells an extensive command glossary for MSWord.

She automated by inserting those MS Word commands
into a SH entry. Try Productivity Talk for lots of ways to do this.
Add the Ctrl + B commands at the beginning and end of entry.
You click the command button in the Add window. The manual has more instructions.
Macros are recordings of keystrokes and commands that are repetitive. sm
A lot of people are confused on what a macro actually is. They are used to insert templates/boiler plates into documents, but the recording of the commands in the sequence they are used is the actual "macro."
Click on the all commands option in the customize dialog box.
The rest of the options that aren't in the menus are listed there.

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co

That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself.  They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make.  Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that.  Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints.  I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good.  You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.

I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research.  Way too much info.

I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
Keyboard and mouse. Is there such a thing as a keyboard that has a mouse on the actual keyboard?

Kinesis Keyboard and keyboard tray

Okay, any lefties use this keyboard? How long did it take to get used to? I use my left thumb for the space bar and I notice on a diagram of the keys that I would always be hitting the backspace key.

I'm really interested in getting a better keyboard. I destroyed my left hand and wrist the other week when I fell because I'm becoming a real klutz.

I bought the Soft Flex gloves, but they only help a little bit. My production is down because of it and it's driving me crazy. I can only type an hour without stopping and then have to rest the hand for some time.

I did buy a Microsoft 2000 keyboard but have yet to recieve it. Is this a good one?

Do you use a keyboard tray with it or just set it on the desk? Do you think a kayboard tray would be the least expensive item right now that would help with a straight keyboard?

Any info you can provide to help me in making any decision would be greatfully appreciated.

'Scuse me for being old school, but I've only ever used a straight keyboard.

Does anyone know of a keyboard that has the backspace key in the center of the keyboard? NM

Split keyboard mounted on chair arms versus split keyboard on desk

For longtime comfort which is best - split keyboard mounted on chair arms or split keyboard to be used on the desk?

Also, why the preference over split keyboards that come totally apart versus split keyboards that are permanently connected at the top?

I want to revamp my office and there are so many different options.

Gold touch makes a keyboard without number pad. Also the evoluent keyboard has the number pad on th
It is a very small keyboard and has laptop keys which are very quiet and light to the touch.  Almost no noise.

I'm in the same boat. My PC Concepts had the integrated touch mouse on the keyboard. PC Concepts no longer makes this in the English version. It was the best ergo KB I have ever used. I bought a Micro Innovations keyboard to replace it after much searching and this keyboard is a PIECE OF GARBAGE!

The touch buttons for the mouse are on either side, rather than below and it's very akward to use the mouse.

Not to mention the fact that their "ergonomic design" is one of a thumbs down with the "gentle curve" going inward rather than out.

Just DO NOT waste your money on a Micro Innovations keyboard.

By the way. I sent an email BEGGING PC-Concepts to bring back the English version. Never heard anything from them.

I did order another keyboard from them tho. Should be here hopefully today. The only difference is that the integrated finger mouse is detached on a little pad. I figure I can glue it to the keyboard and give that a try.

Will let you know how it works out and if I find a secret stash of the old PC-iMMT keyboards anywhere.
Keyboard
Try E-Bay for different ergonomic keyboards.  Quite often I have seen keyboards with the touchpad bottom center.  You can also get touchpads just by themselves, that you can position any place you want.  I got my Goldtouch keyboard off E-Bay and I love it.  I tried using my old flat keyboard again and hated it.
keyboard
I go through at least one if not  two keyboards a year because I wear the letters off.  Though I don't need them it is weird to type without them.    This last one was expensive and so am trying to get 15 months out of it.   Never spilled anything on it, just wear out the keys.
keyboard
I would also suggest not wahing an ergonic keyboard.  When I got just one little drop of water underneath the keys, it shorted out the keyboard.  All I could get after that was jumbled characters.

I spilled pepsi on kb last night.  I have used ergo kb for over 10 years.  I am trying to type this on regular kb, not doing too good.  My backspace on ergo was affected.  I don't have money to get new keyboard because I recently went to work for company that puts up good posts but steals lines.  How do I fix KB.  Any help appreciated.
Keyboard
You can try seeing if the keys will pop off that are giving you trouble and then use a Q-Tip and alcohol to clean the keys and the area where you spilled the drink.  That may work.

If neither one works then you are not getting a reading or connected via the received.  Have you pushed the "connect" button on both?   Are by accident using rechargable batteries?  Are the batteries good?  I have a rechargable Logitech now and thinking back to my one that wasn't to remember  how it works.  Sometimes you have to move the receiver around a bit so that it can receive the connection as that is how it works.   Are you sure you are plugged into the correct port on the back of your computer.  I am sure you have checked all of this but just going over in my mind what I would check  Again, you have to sometimes push the connect button simultaneously  on the keyboard and the connection base station.   But move the base station around, recheck the batteries and that is all I can say.  I could not type a couple of time but moving my base made it possible.  GO onto Logitech and check out their site for help also.

Good luck - Patti

Yeah me too...but now that I contract I never stop typing and I usually spill something on my keyboard before it gets that old anymore! Do they have a keyboard with straps like a hotdog vendor? Now that is something I'd be interested in.

Thanks for answering. I am
contacting clickykeyboards, because it sounds like the IBM M is the one I want. I have never done well with the ergonomic keyboards.

Thanks again.
I'd get the keyboard and get rid of the DH. but thats just me.

Who was looking for the NMB keyboard

I found one in my pile of old computer stuff that I'm sorting through.  It sams NMB The Right Touch and it is a heavy keyboard with a big round plug-in, not USB or PS2.

I left e-mail address, if you want it let me know and you can have it for postage.

Just go and buy the keyboard...
They are about $30.  I've got one and haven't had a problem since.  Get rid of the husband.  If he has time to go stay with Dad for hours at a time..... he has time to get a part-time job!!  I can't believe you put up with that crap.   Grrrrrr -- some women really tick me off when they let men walk all over them.  They have no backbone!!    I feel sorry for the kids.  They have horrible role models whether it's mother or father!
Jan, I would like to know exactly which keyboard
I have a totally split one very much like the one you describe (a PerfecTouch or Ergo 2000), but this one is wearing out again, and I think I'll go for another brand of split next time.  The Kinesis Maxim you showed doesn't seem to split totally apart as you described yours doing, though?  (Mine can separate up to 14 inches apart, so I can also put a notepad or whole sheet of regular paper, etc., between the halves of mine.)
keyboard
I'm in Illinois. Where are YOU? :)
keyboard
Mine is a Lexmark, one of the very first totally split keyboards with totally separate sides. I really need a new one, though, as the keys are wearing out. I'll have to look at the Maxim again. I thought it came apart; guess not, huh? I'd want mine to come apart, like my own and like yours (SM). Then let's look at the Goldtouch. I believe it comes apart. There is a really new one called (I think) Safetype, too. The two halves actually stand up vertically, instead of being flat on the desk. I'm not sure I could get used to THAT much of a change, but it does seem to prevent wrist injuries.
keyboard
I believe mine came already programmed with the left space bar as the backspace.  But it's been ten years, so I can't swear to it.  Believe me, if it had to be programmed by me, and I accomplished it, then it can't be too difficult...hee-hee!
