Is it RAS? of Sacramento?
If so, I was paid $10/hr for RAS typing same as above on Lanier in-house (basement).
Welcome to Sacramento!
First of all, let me say congrats on your impending marriage!
As far as the transcription job market in Sacramento, I couldn't really tell you because I work for an MTSO that is out of state. I know there are some local agencies though. And I do see hospital openings for experienced transcriptionists. I'm pretty new (been doing this about 8 months) so I don't qualify for a lot of those jobs. If you Google Medical Transcription in Sacramento California you might find some leads.
Yes, the cost of living is higher here, and housing prices are inflated, unfortunately. If your fiance has been here for a year already, he can vouch for that.
As far as climate goes, we have very hot summers (although this one seemed to be mild in comparison to past years), with temps averaging in the 90's and heat waves in the 100's. Fall and spring are practically non-existent, in that it goes from warm to very cool quickly in the fall, and warmish to very hot in the spring. Winters aren't too bad. It gets cold, but not as cold as some places. Our rainy season isn't too bad, but there are areas that are prone to flooding (but those are few).
Traffic has been getting progressively worse as growth continues. Downtown Sacramento is where a lot of people work and the commute in and out of downtown can be rough. If you are able to continue to work at home, I would definitely do so!
Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you have more questions. Welcome to California!
Sacramento
Several Kaiser Hospitals in the area that have placed ads from time to time. Also, there is an MTSO in Citrus Heights that I have seen post on MT Jobs a few times, maybe you can do a search. My daughter lives in Rocklin, just outside of Sacramento. I don't know what you will think of the weather compared to Alabama, but compared to the mid east coast, it's really, really nice.
sacramento
Hi and welcome to California. I live in the S.F. Bay Area, but have lived in Sacramento. You might try Sutter Memorial or Sutter General...both are large, both do a lot of interesting surgeries...heart transplants, etc., and the pay is very good. Sutter seems to want to do a lot for their employees. As to the weather, it gets HOT! At times it has been as high as 110. Winters are wet sometimes, but fairly mild. Sacramento is near Lake Tahoe so skiing is near, and also the Sacramento Delta is a fun place to water ski, swim or fish. Public transit is very good and reliable. People are usually quite friendly and helpful. Anyway, best of luck on your marriage and your move. I wish you all good things!
moving to Sacramento......
I am in Loomis, about 20-30 minutes away. It is hotter than heck here in the summer and they last till, well we have the last of it now. This year was the WORST in my opinion, and I have been in the area for 25 years. I have never had a problem finding work, I check the various MT boards and Craigslist also yes occasionally Sutter does hire, but not so much MTs in this area - more in the Bay Area. Most of the Sutter Hospitals in the Sac area outsource their transcription. I worked there for 7 years in transcription, and another 4 years in other departments. Not so sure you want to work at a Kaiser Hospital, they aren't so nice. Good luck to you! Really this is such a great location for CA, you are close to mountains, ocean, etc. I think you are really going to like it!
Moving from Alabama to Sacramento, CA
Getting married in December. Fiance' has been there for a year now. How is the transcription job market in California. I have a work-at-home job, but thinking maybe I can get something local. Compared to Alabama, the cost of living is extremely high though. How is the climate there, any and all info appreciated.
I'm 1 hour north of Sacramento but lived in Citrus Heights/Roseville areas for 10 years (sm)
and pretty much 'ditto' everything CAMT says... Kaiser very big in Sacramento but you could start applying to nationals and have a job by the time you got there!! Congratulations and good luck on your move!!
Born again
I am a Christian, so I understand witnessing to others; nevertheless, I have to say that I don't agree with that approach, because I've seen it fail before - not with everyone - but for the most part, that stance ends up driving people away rather than drawing them. People don't want to hear someone tell them they're going to hell because they're doing this, that, or the other. Maybe they do need to hear that from somebody, but it still comes across as judgmental, and being judgmental is something that Christians are NOT to be. The old saying "you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" applies here. He needs to understand that he can't force people to convert to Christianity just because he says all those things to them. Maybe you could suggest that he not come on so heavy, and instead try inviting people to visit his church, and leave it at that.
born again
Go to the bookstore. Buy him a book called "Jesus Freaks" (I am serious). He will love it. Then ask him about the book. Whether he is Buddhist, Christian, or atheist, it is always a great gift to have someone listen to your view. Americans view themselves as a Christian nation, and you just might learn something. keep an open mind, and stick to the subject of the book. Good luck and I hope the experience is a good one for both of you. The book is very interesting in the depth of human compassion and passion - no matter what your personal beliefs are.
I was born at 6:40 p.m. but am
definitely a morning person.
Maybe in their town.
I can' t say but I can tell you with line rates and incentive pay, I make over 65K at the medical center where I transcribe, located in Nebraska.
BTW, I was born in the USA..nm

What is his age now and when was he born?
NM
Not in my town.
The patient sitters at the local hospital here are not licensed personnel, not even CNAs. Generally, a high school diploma and short orientation with CPR is all that is required as far as training or credentials. Also, the usual pre-employment stuff is required--drug testing, preemployment physical, etc. It also pays less than $10 per hour.
We have those names in our town too.
nm
Hey, I WAS born in the south and I don't get it either.
But then again, I guess south Florida is not considered "The South," right?
I live in conservative N FL now and well, it's different..
You and msbeanctr are right on target and very eloquet.
Anyone going out of town tomorrow?
I'm going to Cincinnati 2C my sisters! Yikes! Wish me luck...
We have a place like that in town. sm
It's a teeny little grocery store and their prices used to be off the wall because they were owned by a big grocer (IGA). I never shopped there for anything but meat as it is cut right at the store while you wait or it's fresh in the cooler.
When big Wally World decided to build the Superstore the teeny grocery store decided to buy out from IGA and named it their own market. The prices there now are even cheaper than Wally World and I no longer shop anywhere else. What used to cost $75.00 at the local market costs about $30 because they got rid of the "middle man."
They had to save themselves and they did. I can actually walk there if need be and sometimes I should as the teeny parking lot is usually packed full. The checkout girl (or girls if it's busy) don't wear name tags because we know them. They go to school with our kids. It's like, "Hi Megan, still playing soccer?"
Good for them.
If you know the time of day you were born, sm
please tell us, and if you are a day person or a night person. I was born at 11:50 a.m., and am very much a night person. I don't seem "with it" until noonish every day.
I've always wondered if our birth time might be indicative of what hours we function best (or whatever hours we prefer to function).
Let's see!!!
Born in the early AM and that is when I
function best.
Born at 9:36 a.m. - Day person. nm
I was born at 1:17 am, Night Owl here.

My daughter was born at 1:28 a.m. and if she is
doesn't even get in the shower till oh, about 9:00 p.m. And she sleeps till 1 or 2 p.m. if she doesn't have to work. Drives me nuts! But then, I was born at 7:00 a.m. and I like to get up early and then am falling asleep by 10, 11 p.m. at the latest.
Born at 1:23 p.m. and definitely a night owl! nm

Were you born yesterday?
Please state what you KNOW and back it up by naming the facility.
mt seminar in my town
There is a seminar about MT in my town tonight and I wanted to go to see what lies they probably are telling. My son's first ball practice is at the same time. I would love to hear what they are saying up there tonight. Most embelish our wages and it is a shame.
Where on Earth were you born?
I was born at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri - my papa was in the Army. How about you?
Kittens being born..HELP...
any advice on what to do with these kittens? Mom has decided to have them in a paper grocery bag (did not like any of the places we had set up for her!) She is just a kitten herself, a stray who showed up pregnant. One has already been stillborn, not sure how many more to follow! I know to keep the other cats away from her, but I have got appointments in town all day and can't just have her in a paper sack? Is it okay to put her and the sack into one of the boxes or what? Any help would be appreciated...TIA, the new grandma!
Hospitals in town
I hear sometimes that there are still hospitals doing their dictations with their own transcriptionists, and I'm lucky that I found one through their website... but wondering, just how do you find out who does the hospitals in your city? No one ever advertises in the newspapers anymore and most hospital websites have nothing about transcription. I live in a pretty big city with lots of hospitals and clinics and outpatient surgeries. Surely they're not all outsourced to the Big Greedies.
We have a huge 4 day celebration in our little town
There is something going on from tonight right through until the fireworks on the 4th. There is a street dance, a bean hole bean supper, a lobster bake and just tons of stuff going on.
Our town is only population 7500, but the celebration has grown to over 30,000 attendees for the 2 hour parade, followed by fun, games, entertainment and music in the park and then fireworks that start at 9:00 and last for hours. It's great fun!
I'm lucky too. I live just a mile from the festivities, so I'm home for a long time while people are still waiting in traffic. The traffic goes smoothly though. The events have always been very well organized with our school bus drivers giving free shuttle bus rides.
Happy 4th everyone!
Denver beautiful town
Granola tree huggers?? Sounds good to me..better than cholesterol artery clogged tree destroyers. My cousin lives in Westminster, another in Estes Park.
What does a gallon of gas cost in YOUR town?
$2.39 here. Northwestern Wisconsin. It is pathetic.
dead town-ban WM stores
A little over 20 years ago WM opened in our town even though they had a Howard's at that time and put them out of business. Our nice town also had a sporting goods store, fabric store, several pharmacies, several local clothing stores and pool supply place. The only one that survived were the pharmacies. WM moved out a little over a year ago. Now we have to go 30 miles to find anything that we can't find in a dollar store. Not only do we have a big empty building that they left, now we will have another empty building that a chain grocery store is leaving because WM built super stores in the surrounding towns that use to shop in our nice little town. I suspect it will take years, if ever, to recover. Our only hope is that we have good leadership in our community.
Have you taken a course? Do you live in a town/city that - sm
maybe you could get some PRN work or part time work to get your resume started?
Try Googling him with his old address or name in the town he was from - also
I think there is an on-line site called privateeye.com, or something like that you pay a one time fee that could probably dig up all you want to know and more. If you have kids, kick him out (change locks), stay in the house if you have one, document any bruises, cuts, etc, with pictures, tell people, mom, dad, friends about it. My husband ask me before we married if I would ever leave/divorce him and I told my husband only if he hit me (1 x would be all it would take) or cheated on me that I was gone (he cheated on his ex-wife-- not with me, did not know him then and he'd be out on the street, and about $100K poorer at this point)--Good luck and I hope you land on your feet (running).
Yep, very very quiet town. Not much happening there
x
just those born from 1946 to 1964

in Indiana ... they are not showing it.
get outta town! congrats!
I guess pedophiles are born that way too. Just can't help themselves and
Gays are pushing their lifestyle. I prefer don't ask don't tell and for gawd's sake don't make a movie about cowboys and gay sex.
I was born 4:31 p.m. and most definitely am a night person.
nm
I was born at 7 a.m. and I'm a night person! nm

I was born at 5 a.m. something and I am a morning person.
Born at 1:57p.m., night person. - nm
Born at 11:30 a.m. and most definitely a morning person...
Well I'll probably be stoned and run out of town, but SM
it is the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life, and then asking you to PAY to sit the beta is beyond ridiculous.
For me, the CMT is unnecessary. I have never been without work a day in 25 years. I can work tomorrow if I lose my job today.
I've always said I may not be able to pass it for all I know - it may be over my head. But for me in my life, it is not a thing I've given a moment's thought to in 15 years. Yes, when I was supervisor of transcription at a big hospital, I thought about taking it and was encouraged to do so, but I just never did it.
I don't hold anything against somebody who does take those tests but for me they mean nothing.
Las Vegas - a whole town dedicated to having fun! nm

My niece was born at 4:16 this morning.
My sister in law gave birth to my niece at 4:16 this morning and I am sure that people will raise their eyebrows everytime she tells someone her DOB.
